The term 'must win' is often used in circumstances where it's not quite true. Is Forest at home a must win game? Maybe, maybe not. But 100% it's a
must not lose game. A win puts us within touching distance of a Forest side in the aftermath of their own little managerial change honeymoon period. A loss....and 17th place starts to look a very long way away indeed.
We go into this game with some comings and goings in the squad. Luis Guilherme has departed for Sporting. Callum Wilson is negotiating an exit (no doubt he sees the writing on the wall with two striker signings coming in, and the 6k basic he's on starting to look like all he'll be getting most weeks). Pablo and Taty Castellano are now in and training with the squad, and both seemingly well known or attacking their duels and fighting hard....and my word do we need some of that.
There's been no news surrounding Todibo and Paqueta for this one. Paqueta's being a back injury, it's feasible a spasm could have subsided with some intensive physio...but with Todibo's being a groin injury, that feels less likely to make a swift disappearance with the usual sources reporting he needed a scan, but no outcomes.
And then there is the aftermath of the Wolves debacle. Potts and Magassa got hooked at half time. Soucek came in and looked slow but competent. Wilson played 90 mins and is still currently here. Myers came on and looked a million miles better than either of the other CB proponents...but surely we won't get a start as one of a back two?! Plus there's the two new guys. The starting line up is suddenly anyone's guess.
Predicted Line Up:
But guess I will. This is my hunch as to what Nuno will go for:
Areola
KWP Mavropanos Kilman Scarles
Soucek Potts
Bowen Castellanos Fernandes
Pablo
Subs: Hermansen, Igor, Myers, Magassa, Kante, Rodriguez, Sumerville, Paqueta, Wilson
If Paqueta is fit to start, I expect Taty to move up top, Paqueta to come in on the left, and Pablo to sit on the bench. Mavropanos and Kilman seem likely to continue their Keystone Cops impression, mostly for lack of alternatives, with Igor clearly not rated, Myers thought more of as a fullback or wide in a 3 (he's not very physically imposing yet) and Todibo likely still out. Lastly I suspect Magassa will be made scapegoat, with Potts getting some nepo treatment (although he's been poor of late) and Soucek coming in for some 'old stager presence' and 'leadership' in the middle of the park.
Predicted Score:
After that last result, it feels impossible to predict a win. Forest will low-block us, and have pace to burn on the flanks. Something we clearly struggle with, but with both teams no doubt considering a defeat more damaging than anything else, I expect a cagey affair that ends in stalemate.
West Ham 1 - 1
Nottingham Forest
Is a point enough to save Nuno? Or is 50m spent on a couple of strikers the real saving grace for the bald Portugeezer? Time will tell. He likely doesn't care either way.
COYI.

Wilson scored for us in the reverse fixture against Forest in 1 of our rare wins of the season. He needs to be involved and not just the last 5 minutes or so either. Egos need to be put aside for the cause.
You think he'll even play??
Yes, as long as his hissy fit wasn't big enough to declare himself unavailable- which would be stupid as it's essentially free money if he does. It's frustrating we now actually have enough up front and the one who was here's top lip starts to wobble the moment some competition comes along when there's a very real chance he'll play a part in most if not all games and start a few still anyway. Must have got that stinking attitude off his podcast mate. Putting one's self over the team is the attitude that landed us here in the first place.
What would have been ideal is that the three of them can rotate thus we actually remain a force in an attacking sense for 90 minutes game in game out. That would have been progress. Sadly it looks like someone's feels have got hurt and they don't now like the deal they agreed to in the summer.

Must confess I thought about Soucek at CB ahead of Kilman. Nuno plays deep so pace wouldn't be an issue and at least he would put a head or boot through it unlike Kilman. Just shows how bad Kilman is if we are considering ageing midfielders to play in defence!!
I didn't want to weaken the midfield further, but if Paqueta is back or if one of the new boys can/will play at 10, then it might be worth trying Magassa. Possibly not in this game, but after this game. We'll have nothing to lose if we don't win tonight and he CANNOT be worse than Kilman, he just can't.
Igor Julio must be fucking shit to not be getting a sniff either. He's a fucking glaring example of 'Sullivan-ball'. Know you have a problem in defence but just bring in any old cheap body even if they are no better than the shit you already have, just to say you did something. What a fucking pointless loan that was. A shitter backup to shit players, who never sees the field anyway.
Just for context, Everton use a Prem loan on Jack Grealish to improve their team, we use one on Igor fucking Julio to sit on our bench because he worse than the worst crop of centre backs I have ever seen at the club. Absolute fucking clown show.

Its been a long time since l felt so down after a defeat as l did on Saturday against Wolves. They have won 3 games all season 2 of them against us. What doe's that say about West Ham United at this point There was nothing in that performance to suggest anything other than another soul destroying defeat tonight against Forest. We have had poor teams in the past but, they have always have had players would fight and show a bit of bottle. Bonzo, Mad dog, Dicks, Moncs spring to mind. We have no passion or desire at all they all want to run away. Its heartbreaking to watch
West Ham 0 Forest 2

Agree difficult to see us winning this, but here I am hoping.
A good old 4-4-2 would be nice.
Areola
Walker Peters, Mavropanos, Kilman, Scarles
Bowen, Magassa, Paqueta, Summerville
Wilson, Pablo
Forest would run straight through, that formation would be lunacy with hardly any buffer to our centre backs.
It would be lunacy! So fully expect Nuno to lap it up.
Magassa and Paqueta are not shy of a tackle and are decent going forward, but don't worry it won't happen, I was just fantasizing. No need to be so serious.

Soucek in defence is a horrendous pick, unless of course Kilman is the only other option then I think it would be better. Just a simple clearance cost us the penalty. The amount of times every game he scuffs a simple clearance outnumbers the clean ones by far.
I guess we have to assume Igor is worse than Kilman, unbelievable I know! At least Soucek has some bollocks.

Good to see a few of you are now omitting Potts from your lineups.
Took a while for y'all to wake up.
Gave us a bit of energy for awhile, awful set pieces and a bit of a plodder. I think championship will be his level. Might be good for us next season.
The few times Kante has been on the pitch, seems to have more about him?

Been to some cracking home Forest fixtures before but two of the most boring managers head to head could make one of the worst PL spectacles of all time.
Just hope we are due a fluke result, courtesy of a Forest red card, own goal or penalty. Even a stopped clock, and all that…

Not conceding a goal within 10 minutes would show signs of improvement.
I'm going for a brave 1-1 draw.

Cannot see any wins at home but now our relatively decent away form has gone too. We concede goals every game. That means relegation. A Dyche team will be hard to break down. Thats what he brings. Villa were flattered by their 3-1 scoreline last Saturday. A goalkeeping howler and a Watkins special were the difference. Forest frustrated Villa gor long periods and break at speed which is our “kryptonite”. Also their main forward was a real handful. Kilman and Stavros wont want a fight with him because thats what. will be needed. Kilman especially is shot ( and shit ) currently. Looks like the proverbial “deer in the headlights”. Another bery very depressing defeat beckons Im afraid. I can no longer see any hope without 2 new CBs and another option in centre mid to at least allow subs in that area
1-3

Can't see the defence improving at all. Which is the root of the problem. Even if these new signings start scoring goals for us, they wont be enough to offset goals we ship at the other end. So I am going for 2-3 loss.

Watching two crap teams in a dreadful Championship match, Leicester v WBA, and they both look better than us. Not looking forward tovwatching that next season, which we will if this cսnt is still the manager. He will play for a draw with all strikers on the bench, so a 1-1.
