Woke watch
"There is a very good section on GB news where the ludicrous idiocies of Wokeness are looked at I thought we would should have one for WHO. I'll start with Baptiste on BBC: In Hungary,an ambassador's family are kidnapped by Islamic terrorists and carry out atrocities. At the end of the last episode Baptiste finds out that it is a false flag operation and conveniently, the real culprits are white supremacists who want to stop all immigration. Coronation Street ITV a gay black footballer is stopped by the police, because he is driving an expensive car. He is pushed to the ground during an altercation, and damages his leg threatening his career. Could have been written by Dawn Butler or a BLM activist."

"Will, I lived abroad for 20 years, coming 'home' was the best thing I ever did, thankfully, quite a few, blinkered, right wing old farts have moved the other way. I hope the country that accommodates you treats you well and is bereft of any apparent 'wokeness'."
Re: Woke watch
Ah ray. I have always lived abroad since posting on WHO. You’ve never known any difference but getting away from nutty left wingers was one of the attractions of moving abroad….

"I have to say that I'm not at all sorry that I have moved abroad from the news I here these days. A woman school teacher sacked for saying ""good morning girls"" to her all female school class. Discussions on whether LGBT rights are good enough and so on. Protestors disrupting snooker and Grand National. I blame social media where every know nothing wanker in GB feels entitled to tell everyone else how to live their lives but won't be told how to live their own."

"The trouble with this sort of thing is that the stigma usually catches up with the euphemism. They used to call theintellectually challenged idiots, imbeciles and morons. Now you can use phrases like special needs as an insult"

"Boots has removed a sign for parking spots for ""less abled"" customers in a row over the word ""disabled"". The pharmacy chain was criticised for its choice of language, with some customers saying the term disabled was “not a dirty word”. The signage at the store in Norwich, Norfolk, included a symbol of a wheelchair-user beneath the words ""less abled parking""."

", 11:42 TBH the Welsh language argument to change it would have been more than fair enough. The climate change argument surrounding 'beacon' as a justification is just dumb, overegging the pudding, and trying to look good for bonus points. Beacon doesn't even have to mean burning something."

"""the authority is ditching a picture of a burning beacon from its logo, arguing that the fiery, carbon-emitting symbol no longer fits with its ethos on fighting climate change"" hahaha that's mental. Someone should tell them they have a carbon-emitting animal on their national flag. Get it changed to a rainbow unicorn or something."

"The Welsh name means ""the peaks of Brychan's kingdom"" and is pronounced ban-aye bruch-ay-nee-og, with the ch making the same sound as in loch. Brycheiniog - named after 5th Century King Brychan - was an independent kingdom in the early middle ages, and its borders roughly match those of the national park today. Bannau Brycheiniog National Park's chief executive, Catherine Mealing-Jones, said: ""It just felt the right time to reclaim the old name for the area. [It] reflects our commitment to the Welsh language.""But we understand people are used to calling the park by the name everyone's used for 66 years, so we don't expect everyone to use it, at least straight away."" As part of the rebrand, the authority is ditching a picture of a burning beacon from its logo, arguing that the fiery, carbon-emitting symbol no longer fits with its ethos on fighting climate change."

"Leonard Hatred 11:47 Mon Apr 17 ""What happened to ""BAME""? That was the fashionable term for about 3 months but nobody uses it now. Is it RACIST?"" Apparently yes. Most corporate companies (including the one I work for) spend fortunes on training, programming everyone to use BAME, then a year later that term had been retracted. Who knows what the correct term to is use now."

I take it then that Becontree and Beaconsfield will both become no-go zones whilst so named?

"Good luck to the Welsh for giving prominence to the native language name for an area over that of the English language name. The same was done for Snowdonia last year. Unfortunately for the DT they were unable to spin any sort of woke or climate change reference into the Snowdonia change but as luck would have it they have, naturally, been able to make a play this time because of the word Beacon."

Re: Woke watch
https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2023/04/17/brecon-beacons-net-zero-renamed-climate-change/ Outstanding stuff. The National Parks are renaming the Brecon Beacons to some unpronounceable Welsh name because the word Beacon is associated with burning things and that emits carbon which goes against their net zero aims. Whoever came up with this must have been having a laugh at it got taken a bit too seriously. Impressive stuff either way.

Re: Woke watch
"Jeeves and Wooster books have been rewritten to remove prose by PG Wodehouse deemed “unacceptable” by publishers, the Telegraph can reveal. Original passages in the comic novels have been purged or reworked for new editions issued by Penguin Random House. Trigger warnings have also been added to revised editions telling would-be Wodehouse readers that his themes and characters may be “outdated”. One warning states that the writer’s prose has been altered because it was judged to be “unacceptable” by Penguin, a publishing house which enlists the services of sensitivity readers. The disclaimer printed on the opening pages of the 2023 reissue of Thank you, Jeeves states: “Please be aware that this book was published in the 1930s and contains language, themes and characterisations which you may find outdated. “In the present edition we have sought to edit, minimally, words that we regard as unacceptable to present-day readers.” Woke Capitalism"
