Recommend a Documentary

?"Been a while since we've had one of these, and the nights are drawing in, so I need something new to watch. A few to get things going.. ""Cold War"" (1998) Series made by the same people who did 'The World at War'. Covers the period from 1945 to 1991. This is episode 1, the same person's put up all the other episodes too.. ""To Mars by A-Bomb: The Secret History of Project Orion"" (2002) BBC film about the Cold War era plan to build an ocean liner-sized spaceship, propelled by endless external nuclear explosions. Fascinating from start to finish. ""Reggae"" (1971) Film about the 1970 Wembley reggae festival. Live clips, interviews, etc. If you like old ska/reggae you'll love it. "

"Vexed 2:50 Seconded. I watched it last year or so. Brilliant doc, and completely heartbreaking in a lot of places. Especially the one guy- I won't go into more detail with him for the sake of anyone who hasn't seen it, but, if you've seen it you know."

"On Netflix - Lover, Stalker, Killer - You will never go on a date again after watching this! How to Catch a Serial Killer. Story of how British cop Steve Fulcher's career was ended after the arrest of killer Christopher Halliwell. Perfect example of how a criminals rights seem more important than a victims."

I have to agree with Chim....that Dopesick series had me shouting at the TV. Painkiller is a little too polished.

"Crikey chim - that’s a hardcore opioid right? The strongest thing I’ve ever had was Ketonal Forte for an earache and that was aaaaiiiiiiiiii!!!!-type pain. Anyway, that’s it. Dooesick was the one I was recommended but forgot the name and came up with Painkiller. It’s on Netflix, which is my usual TV experience dealer these days."

"Hammer and Pickle 1:05 Sat Jan 27 I'm on that stuff (Oxycontin) after the crash. Fuck Painkiller off and watch the infinitely better Dopesick. Neither of those shows are documentaries (they are dramas) but they both explain the Purdue Pharma's lies. It's a sickening story but Dopesick was close to Michael Keaton's (I think one of America's best actors) heart as his nephew died abusing it. It's got the excellent Will Poulter, an English actor in it too"

"American Nightmare is good, insane how the police and FBI handled that. Watched Captains of the World, on Netflix. Pretty decent stuff, apart from Aluko appearing in it. They even put ‘England legend’ under her name. Ridiculous box ticking. Utterly useless commentary from her as usual."

"Been recommended Painkiller. It's about the start and aftermath of the big-pharma-fueled opioid pandemic in the US, which as far as I can tell is now pretty much out of control. Grim viewing but it's a duty, I suppose."

"Those into F1 the Brawn four parter on Disney+ is a decent watch. Not just the fairy tale of a constructor's championship and driver's championship but the background turmoil of barely any money, jealousy of the big teams and the politics between the teams and Ecclestone and Moseley. The only issue is the presenter Keanu Reeves, surprised he didn't send any of the interviewee's to sleep."

What zico said... American Nightmare incredible story... Half way through the new Netflix 8 parter on last years 6 Nations tournament (Full Contact) very well made and a great insight into the background (players/coaches) etc... it's not quite a warts and all Living with Lions but it's very watchable

Having not watched a Who Do You Think You Are for about 8 years I watched Josh Widacombe's one this week (think it was probably a repeat)... no spoilers but it is definitely worth a watch... on BBC iPlayer.
