"Brilliant, aren’t they? Leasing an MG4 at the moment. Apart from one or two minor gripes, it’s absolutely fantastic. I’ll never go back to an ICE car. Any of you lot drive an EV? What’s your experience with them?"

Jimmy T - article is behind a firewall. In short they take longer to manufacture and so are more energy hungry. The rare earth metals that are required have to be mined & shipped across the world. Not to mention there simply aren’t enough of these metals available to meet the forecast numbers of EV required. And lastly it depends on how your electricity that goes into the car is produced.

"FatboyChelseaScum 9:43 Sat Sep 23 I have been looking into this as am considering my next car. I have 2 cars: A ten year old Skoda Oxtavia VRS and an eighteen year old Saab 93 convertible. When the former finally dies the new one will replace that. Most manufacturers guarantee 80% life for 100,000 miles plus with a couple covering up to 300,000. You can increase that by being nice the battery e.g. Not ragging the car too often, charhing then to 100% or fast charging them a lot. The NEVS Emily GT which was designed by ex-Saab engineers and is going into production soon but I suspect it will be very expensive. A frien of mine has the little BMW EV and absolutely loves it. He was less keen on the Tesla 3 he had before that and gave it up as sson as his lease would allow it. He is lucky as he has a huge home solar installation and still makes money from the grid despite charging both his and his wife's cars at home."

"Yes. Got a mustang. Biggest range has been 320 miles. Typically closer to 300. I’m on 100% every time I leave the office, so can’t complain."

"Okay for leasing, but i'd never buy one to own and definitely wouldnt consider a used one. I prefer to own cars because i like to keep them - I bought a brand new SEAT Leon Cupra in 2008 and still own it now. I couldn't imagine how reduced the range with be in an electric car with 15 year old batteries in it."

"Gaffer. I should have been clearer. I meant that the price of charging up the battery on the road was too expensive. I think you pay double what you would pay at home, and that’s expensive enough."

"goose https://www.nytimes.com/2022/10/19/business/electric-vehicles-carbon-footprint-batteries.html They seem to repay their carbon deficit somewhere between 1 and 2 years, depending on how far you drive. Given that there are lots of Leafs and Teslas still going strong after a decade or so, I really do think they are greener. Personally speaking, as the father of an asthmatic son, I am very happy no longer to be pumping out diesel fumes."

"Iron Duke, is the price of a Tesla the same here as it is for Europe, should be as there all shipped in from America, or are us Brits being screwed over again?"

"I have one. The range is about 150-170 miles so only good for the shorter journeys. I get plenty of use out of it though and a decent drive. The infrastructure in this country is still shit compared with mainland Europe, and the price is way too high. But as long as the big corporations can make record profits it’s all good."

Never driven one myself but I’ve heard good things about them if the range is right. However let’s not pretend they are a ‘green option’.
