Here we are folks. D Day in the NFL. Big Blue will take Hunter or Carter. (Who ever left.) They ain't trading out of that pick. But don't be surprised if they move back up into the first rd after Pittsburgh take Sanders. Syracuse. Kyle McCord would be my guess.? Either way.It's the one day of the Year every NFL fan get's too hope. So good luck to everyone else.

Forgive the Jets focus on a draft affecting everybody, but I reckon we have one of three options for the #7 pick and I'd be very surprised if it wasn't one of the following...

• Armand Membou (RT) from Missouri: nailed on NFL starter who would fill a huge need on the offensive line. Would be considered a "boring" pick by many fans, but you can't win games if you can't block for your QB and RBs, and we were diabolical in the trenches last season.
• Mason Graham (DT) from Michigan. Kick-ass DT with a huge engine. Low centre of gravity, good speed burst for a big guy, stronger than he looks and a relentless tackler. Couple of technical flaws - but nothing that can't be ironed out. This is probably the pick that Jets fans who will attend the draft want - so expect the traditional boos if he's still on the board and we don't pick him.
• Tyler Warren (TE) from Penn State: hat-tip to TM on this one, as he got me watching more of Warren's game footage and movement. The more I see of this kid, the better he looks. Runs tight routes under pressure (often double-teamed) and still finds ways to get open. Ball hawk. Good hands and a half-decent blocker already. 

I'd be happy with any one of those three. There's chatter about Deion's kid dropping down the board and maybe even falling to the Jets at #7, but I can't see that happening. If it does, we might even trade out for extra picks and then come back up the board (spending less) to take one of the three above, as Glenn wants to see what Fields can do at QB for a year.

Ward will go #1.

There’s a lot of natter about Sanders dropping down the board, but I can’t see it. Too many QB needy teams up top, and there’s little chance that they’ll all pass on a college kid who threw 74% completions with his numbers.

Jets still holding a few cards with the #7 pick. But I’d probably go boring and fill a big need at RT, DT G or TE.

Can't see either Tennessee or Cleveland moving out of the top two picks. Or not taking the two QB's. So it's will be Carter or Hunter.? Head says Carter. (Can't get enough quality Edge Rushers.) Heart says Hunter. (Him and Nabers alone would be a lot of fun.) Personally think it will be Hunter. New York sports gets their own Shohei Ohtani. Everybody is happy until the first snap of the season.

I'd say the Giants GM is a good bet to be fired very soon. Apparently he's now brought in Russell Wilson on a one year deal, just a couple of days after Winston. I think Wilson can still play, but Schoen seems to be just throwing shit at the wall and hoping something will stick

If anything Miike. Schoen has most likely guaranteed his job for the next couple of seasons. Dadoll however might now be feeling a bit more pressure. Having too get a tune out of either.(He did manage to get Jones into the playoffs.!) Neither Ward. Or Sander’s are rated better than any of the top three QB’s who went in last season draft. So why risk that high a pick on a punt.? Go BPA on either Hunter or Carter.(Sounds like a 70’s cop show.) £15 million a season for Winston and Wilson (Sounds like a 60’s cop show.) Is a more sound investment. Rather than £14 million a season. To have Jones as your back up.! 

We have the hardest schedule in the league next season. The NFC North and the AFC West. Plus the added bonus of the Eagles and Commander’s twice. So anything over seven wins will be seen as a good season by the local natives. Wilson and Winston will at least make it entertaining. Rather than a Deer in the headlights.

Christ - that is a tough schedule for you next season. The Giants will do well to get six wins from that.

The Jets have what by their standards is a tough schedule next term, too. Apparently, we have to play these things called “opponents” and history shows we’re not very good at that.

I don't particularly rate any of this year's draft QBs so the one positive this move has done is guarantee you one of the best two players in the draft (Carter or Hunter). I think Ten/Cle go QB

That guy looks very good. He’s got quite a motor for a defensive lineman.

As a proponent of sorting out the lines before anything else (a message that also seems to be coming from inside the Jets), I’d be OK with that. O-line or D-line, it would just be good to get back to playing some bruising style, which is how to get the run game going and pressure the QB.

On another note, the draft talk around the Jets is getting interesting. Plenty of options with the #7 pick.

Many people are talking about Glenn taking TE Tyler Warren as you said, TM. That's high for a TE, but everybody seems to think he's got good hands for a big fella, runs intelligent routes (gets open quickly, especially when there's heat on his QB) and is hard to bring down.

My only worry about that is that we do need to sort out the two lines before we start wanging on about the skills positions. We desperately need a right tackle to bookend the QB (Fashanu at LT is excellent). So there's also a lot of talk about Armand Membou from Missouri.

Here's how the game has changed since we all started watching. Membou is 6ft 3 or 6ft 4 and 320lbs - and some people think he's "too small" to be a successful NFL tackle (they think he doesn't have the arm length)! I think they've been smoking something!

What an embarrassment that bloke is! He needs to develop some resilience. Clearly, being on the wrong side of New York has made him soft. Spend some time with some Jets fans, fella, learn to man up and have a bit of humour about it.

Can't even get his new QB's name right. It's Jameis ("Jame-iss") Winston. Not "Jameson" Winston.

Besides, the guy can throw and will do a half-decent job for a year or two - while the QB they will obviously draft this year gets some experience. Nobody is pretending he's going to win them a superbowl. They are miles away from that anyway.

Yep, definitely think Fields is a better prospect than Milroe. Even after a few average years in the NFL. He’s still only 26. Not reached his peak yet.

Can’t tell with Dart. He looks the part, but most people who know more than me (most people!) have him down as a 2nd round pick talent-wise.

Happy with Fields, and trust Glenn.

Fields was by far a better prospect coming out of college to the two you named, Milroe would be better as a receiving tight end. Don't waste a pick on any QBs other than the first couple, and even Sanders is questionable

I also think we don't necessarily have to come up the board (offering second-round picks etc) to land Dart or Milroe as development QBs now.

They're both talented, no question, but they need work.

With Fields in place, and Tyrod Taylor as an experienced back-up, the big question now is whether Jordan Travis is still seen as fit/healthy enough to try out if Fields doesn't work. If Glenn and Mougey think he isn't then, fine, go for Dart or Milroe providing it's not an over-reach. If they think Travis has the physical health to match his obvious talent, then there's no need.

At least now we can wait and see what we'd need to "spend" on Dart. If it's too much - leave it.

we had a great first day of free agency. traded for a very good LT in Tunsil, and brought in a solid DT (Kinlaw) from the 49ers. some teams clearly overpaying for talent, but it shows the pressure some GMs are under this coming season 

 

Tunsil is a really good LT. That’s a fine acquisition and he should give Daniels even more time to hit his targets.

Commanders are building a proper team now.

I agree - I think we had a decent first day. Nothing mental, no over-reaches (yet) and generally sensible work by the backroom team. It bodes well. Even Fields' contract is sensible: no whistles and bells, just a good signing bonus ($15m) and basic wage guarantees ($5m in year one and $20m in year two). No mad add-ons. It's probably a tiny bit more than I would have paid for him, but only by a million or two. $40m over two years is not going to break us, even if he doesn't work out. It's just $25m in actual wages. I think he wants to play for Glenn.
