Why can't the suits just fuck off and let everybody enjoy club football?

Forgot it was on which just shows how much I rate these competitions these days!  Wondering if we are going down the road of the Lampard, Gerard, Scholes conundrum again with all the attacking flair that we have.  Very difficult to fit in Bellingham, Saka, Foden, Gordon and Palmer in the same team so whoever becomes the next manager will need to make tough choices.

Didn't watch the game but was surprised by him playing a "false 9" and then to hear him say we'd only trialled it for 20 mins in training is just bonkers.

If in a game you lose your striker I appreciate you may have to resort to a false 9 but to set the team up to do it based on 20 mins prep.... guy should be sacked just for that!

TAA is another problem - he is just not disciplined enough - the graphics I've seen show him and Bellingham, I think, taking up the same positions and leaving the RB spot vacant - surely if you are shoe horning your most attacking players in then you need a solid back 4 you can't have another Maverick roaming about.

The suggestion was from his post match that he'd play a false 9 but Kane when fit has to play - so if Kane isn't fit he plays Foden, Bellingham and Palmer - Watkins and Solanke must be wondering WTF.

I didn't watch but if Bellingham played as badly as he did in the Euro's I'm not sure why he was being played at all - he was a massive let down apart from the wonder goal he scored - the rest of the time he was just strolling about looking arrogantly at anyone who dared to tackle him! Massively overrated atm!
 

Aside from making such a bollox of last nights team and tactics Carsley has shown himself to be a personality vacuum as well as thick as mince. 
It shows what a bunch of clueless wankers they have running the FA that they seriously considered giving him the job.

I'd scrap international football being the mongrel I am. Half Eng-Scot and replace it with the champions leg Europa Conference break.

I advocated the appointment of Carsley. For one simple reason. Spain. 

They promoted De La Fuente from the u-21's. He had progressed from u-17's, u-18's, u-20's and u-21's. Winning the Euro's with two those age groups. It was a natural transition and in the last Euro's which Spain won, five of the key Spain players, including Williams, Olmo and Mina, had progressed through the age groups with De La Fuente. 

Some people I know said, "Why don't we do what Spain did?" and then moaned at Carsley's appointment. But Carsley was exactly what Spain did. He was successful at younger ages and could restart England with a blend of youth and experience. So, for me, it was the right appointment at the time. 

I was not too bothered about the first two games as I thought we looked 'OK' and he also tried alot of younger players. But last night was a huge worry. Why not play Watkins for Kane? Why play Bellingham out of position? Why play Palmer out of position? Why shoe-horn Foden and Palmer into the same team? Why play full backs in the wrong way? Why completely change the whole system just because Kane was injured?

Why bloody complicate matters?

It does seem to me that something happens to people when they get the England job. I don't know if its the FA, if its the players, if its the supporters... I just don't get it. Is it that they immediately feel this self-absorbed level of entitlement and get too big for their boots and they think they are clever and have to try and re-invent the game? Why is it that England managers never pick the team that everybody else can see is the right one?

Carsley committed professional suicide last night. He must have woken up today feeling like an idiot. Wasted his opportunity. Jury is now massively out on him. Add to that he appears to have the charisma and personality of a slug, things are not looking good for him.

Last night was a classic of the Lampard & Gerrard era attempt to shoehorn the ‘best’ players in rather than balance a team.
Always said one of Southgate’s errors was letting Kane pick the team and play every game rather than develop an alternative or back up 
Kane is injured so doesn’t give Watkins , Solanke etc a game 
Also needs to make a choice and play one or the other not both:
Bellingham or Foden
Palmer or Saka 
Dont really know who the first choice defence is
Need to move on from Maguire & Walker & settle on some full backs

Pope came into contention & then looked unreliable
Sent off & poor kicking then was injured
Pickford has performed in tournaments but always looks prone to some stupidity
English goal keeping not what it was

These results consistently happen with England.  Iceland x 2, Greece, Slovakia, Slovenia.  I think it's arrogance of the players as well as the manager/s.

Also, you drop Bowen, you deserve to get beat by a 3rd world team.

He does have his moments, I'll grant you but he is still the Keeper that's been by far the most consistent for us since Banks for England. 2 back to back Euros Finals, a World Cup Semi Final and best we've had in penalty shoot outs. Yes, he is the best English Keeper available. 

He's been the most consistent because nobody else has been given a game. So, the winner of a one horse race.

First time Greece have beaten England and what makes it worse is the Greeks wanted the game postponed due to the death of Baldock and many players who knew him coming to terms with it and the disruption to the game's preparation.

He maybe the "caretaker" but Carsley carrying on from where Southgate left off, FFS England and our FA are clueless yes men when it comes to appointing manager's, nothing new as well, When Clough was crying out for the Job all those years ago they passed over him time and again, had they not we would perhaps have more silverware in the cabinet.

Well, the Greeks deserved to win it but... that looked a clear pen right at the end. The Greek defender got nothing on the ball and plenty of the player.
