Until West Ham find out mojo again,  a game against a David Moyes managed side will always have some kind of extra significance.

Layer on the pressure on Potter who looks like a dead man walking, and this game is under intense scrutiny. 

It looks for all the world like Potter has two games, not to save his job, but to buy a stay if execution, against Everton and Arsenal, made none the easier by these two being amongst the best set piece side in the league....the Hammers clear achilles heel.

The stats this far have backed up the eye test...West Ham ARE terrible at defending the box, none of the keepers help out on crosses, and we give up corners willy nilly.

But if Potter is to cling on, nothing but a win here will do.

Fullkrug just seems half a yard off the pace in England - all of the time. He’s second to everything. Forgot his shooting boots today, too. So I’m really not sure what he gives us.

There must be a player in there somewhere, as he’s been Germany’s #9 at times. But he was awful again today. Wilson seems head and shoulders the better of the two.

Fullkrug needs a goal, and some confidence, quickly.

 

 

Agree he looked off the pace, hopefully a run of games will help, I think he will get goals.

Sorry, fella, but it's not a fitness thing. He is as fit as he can be. He just hasn't adjusted to the pace of the English game and he looks isolated upfront on his own. His immobility means he doesn't occupy defenders anywhere near enough to play the lone #9 role. He's also not as strong as he likes to think. He's been outmuscled by big defenders in most games this season: that lump at Sunderland on the opening day, last night etc.

He needs to find a way to be more effective - and quickly. Right now, he's looking like almost as big a waste of money as Kilman.

Didn't see the game so can only go by the comments on here. Was the 'new manager bounce' evident or was it more a case of relief now that Potter has gone?
 
 

It definitely was evident. The players were far more committed, and we actually looked like a football team that knows what it's doing.

Thought he showed glimpses of not being shit but I'd like to think Nuno will attempt to set us up to get him more into the game as we hardly supply him with anything. I can only recall one chance he had that he snatched at - probably because he knows he won't see another chance for weeks.

Clean slate for Fullkrug, for a few weeks at least.

Was quite pleased last night, especially second half.  After conceding I was worried that the team would fold again but quite the opposite.  Seems Nuno may have had a word with the centre backs as they certainly seemed to get closer second half with Kilman putting his body on the line a couple of times rather than standing around watching.  Happy with a more direct approach as well because as we saw Dinos isn't capable of passing it around like Bobby Moore and his weekly error nearly cost us, but thought we passed it around quite well too as a team in the right areas with the right players on the ball.  Magassa started poorly and I wondered what on earth we had signed but he did get better as the game wore on.  Would rather he sat a tad more though as a defensive midfielder as once or twice he got a bit excited and got caught up the pitch.  If Diouf bombs on Magassa just needs to sit in.  Diouf has a wicked cross on him and I certainly would have preferred to have seen Wilson or Marshall given the last 20 minutes at least.  I thought Summerville was excellent but I am just praying his hamstrings cope with his pace.  I can see the argument about a lack of end product but thought Pickford made a good save and Summerville is only just back from a long time out.  Give him time, it's just a relief to have a pacy player in the side.  Bowen had a quiet night for him but still grabs a goal and thought KWP did a decent job on Grealish especially considering he was on a yellow card.  Hope we can at least give a good account at Arsenal.  Would be just like us to actually grab a counter attacking 1-0 win there!

Would gladly have taken 1-1 at 8pm tho when i saw we were 1 down I feared the worst. Be interesting to see how we handle Arsenal at the weekend considering recent games against them at the shitpit.

A quicker, stronger CF who can finish and we win the game last night. But Everton could probably say tye same.  They ( strikers ) are so hard to get and cost north of £50 million but even then no guarantee they will “rip it up” in the Prem Lge.  Good scouting and identification like Bournemouth and Brighton can see a lower cost player like the Brazilian at Bmouth ( Edmilson? )  solve the problem. Our other, and ideal option is getting a really young one via good recruitment ( again ) or via the youth set up.  Got to hope Marshall can make the grade but the odds are against him simply because so few home grown, British strikers make that final step up to Prem Lge standard.  But lets hope he gets some minutes and at least gets a chance.

Decent point, amazing what can be achieved when you pick the right starting lineup. Looked promising last night, some good stuff happened but we all thought that after Potter's first game so I'm not getting too excited. Nuno is already winning me over a bit. 

Agree. Take away all the shit with Potter and Nuno and Sullivan etc.... Everton away Monday night and a point is a good result in cold light of day. 

I am also really excited about the progress of Diouf and Summerville. That left side is so solid.

Just back (I live in Liverpool before someone says anything) and we deserved the result. A good ding ding of a game. 

Their ground is the bollocks. Close to the pitch, noise travels around the ground, purpose built for football. Puts it into perspective how dire our place is. 

MotM for me was Jimmy - thought Magic Malick wasn’t far behind. His delivery is sublime.

To be honest, PB, the atmosphere from that ground on the telly sounded shit!  Quiet as a mausoleum at times.  The only fans that came across loud and proud were you lads, as always.  Great support!

I actually thought the momentum swung in their favour straight after the Dinos brain fart.  We were in the ascendancy played it all the way back and we looked a bit nervous after and it lifted them. 

Agree with that, they were struggling to handle us at that point, Summerville run them ragged.

Dinos fuck up, Areola's kick straight to an opponent and Paqueta gifting the ball in the final third would all have cost us against better opposition... like this Saturday

I actually thought the momentum swung in their favour straight after the Dinos brain fart.  We were in the ascendancy played it all the way back and we looked a bit nervous after and it lifted them.

I thought we gave a decent account of ourselves, and it’s a good point on the road, but we maybe should have had all three. Our momentum went a bit when Summerville went off, who they couldn’t handle.

I thought Paqueta gave the ball away far too often. Hopefully that was a result of him trying to put first time killer balls through all the time rather than just sideways passing, and he's probably a bit rusty at it. Fullkrug was awful as well. If these two had been a bit better we'd have won the game easily.

Early days, but you can see already that we're firmly back in Moyesball territory: long stretches of us sitting back and doing nothing, followed by quick breaks where we try to actually score. The tedium of the low block will become even more apparent when we're playing against a team who actually like having possession themselves. That said, at least our attacks will have some excitement about them and I firmly believe that we'll soon be climbing up the table.

It felt justified, and was by no means (as you’d expect) levelled at the players who were given complete support. Kier Starmer also came in for some flack.

Beg to differ chim. That was pretty close to 90 minutes of, at least, competitive football. We had a logical starting XI with timely and competent subs that actually made us stronger and didn't allow everton to take control of the game. We also responded to adversity and battled back. The fact we showed such a difference in the middle and final third after 48 hours is reason to celebrate. I fully understand it may be a false dawn and everyone may be getting carried away but if nothing else, can we not take pleasure in some shred of enjoyment because it's been a fucking depressing two years of football as a West Ham fan.
