The term 'must win' is often used in circumstances where it's not quite true.  Is Forest at home a must win game?  Maybe, maybe not.  But 100% it's a must not lose game.  A win puts us within touching distance of a Forest side in the aftermath of their own little managerial change honeymoon period.  A loss....and 17th place starts to look a very long way away indeed.

We go into this game with some comings and goings in the squad.  Luis Guilherme has departed for Sporting.  Callum Wilson is negotiating an exit (no doubt he sees the writing on the wall with two striker signings coming in, and the 6k basic he's on starting to look like all he'll be getting most weeks).  Pablo and Taty Castellano are now in and training with the squad, and both seemingly well known or attacking their duels and fighting hard....and my word do we need some of that.

There's been no news surrounding Todibo and Paqueta for this one.  Paqueta's being a back injury, it's feasible a spasm could have subsided with some intensive physio...but with Todibo's being a groin injury, that feels less likely to make a swift disappearance with the usual sources reporting he needed a scan, but no outcomes.

And then there is the aftermath of the Wolves debacle.  Potts and Magassa got hooked at half time.  Soucek came in and looked slow but competent.  Wilson played 90 mins and is still currently here.  Myers came on and looked a million miles better than either of the other CB proponents...but surely we won't get a start as one of a back two?!  Plus there's the two new guys. The starting line up is suddenly anyone's guess.

Predicted Line Up:

But guess I will.  This is my hunch as to what Nuno will go for:
Areola

KWP  Mavropanos  Kilman  Scarles

Soucek   Potts

Bowen   Castellanos   Fernandes

Pablo
Subs: Hermansen, Igor, Myers, Magassa, Kante, Rodriguez, Sumerville, Paqueta, Wilson

If Paqueta is fit to start, I expect Taty to move up top, Paqueta to come in on the left, and Pablo to sit on the bench.  Mavropanos and Kilman seem likely to continue their Keystone Cops impression, mostly for lack of alternatives, with Igor clearly not rated, Myers thought more of as a fullback or wide in a 3 (he's not very physically imposing yet) and Todibo likely still out.  Lastly I suspect Magassa will be made scapegoat, with Potts getting some nepo treatment (although he's been poor of late) and Soucek coming in for some 'old stager presence' and 'leadership' in the middle of the park.

Predicted Score:

After that last result, it feels impossible to predict a win.  Forest will low-block us, and have pace to burn on the flanks.  Something we clearly struggle with, but with both teams no doubt considering a defeat more damaging than anything else, I expect a cagey affair that ends in stalemate.

West Ham 1 - 1 Nottingham Forest

Is a point enough to save Nuno?  Or is 50m spent on a couple of strikers the real saving grace for the bald Portugeezer?  Time will tell.  He likely doesn't care either way.

COYI.

Post Hello Mrs. Jones »

There are very few days when i couldnt care about the result. Yesterday was one such day. This was partly because i have resigned myself to relegation but mostly because i spent the day lying in a darkened hotel room in southern Mexico with projectile vomit emanating from one end of my intestinal track and uncontrollable arse Bisto cascading from the other.

But I see bullshit when I see it, and your "mate's" claim about 30k bring there last night is pure Mitty. Especially as I was there and could see with my own eyes that it was much more than that.

Any now you think it might be a typo. Pull the other one.
I was also there and like I said I was surprised bit I'm not lying I'm just repeating what was said and I never said it was a typo I said it's not beyond possibility as I doubted it myself, but my Mrs who was also there and has much better eye sight than me said there was loafs of completely empty rows in the Billy Upper... So I just mentioned it here on a forum what was said... But yeah in truth I made it up to impress some anonymous posters on WHO and thought it would score me points.. Laughable that you actually think that, I don't actually believe you do because it's beyond ridiculous.

They won't bring prices down. They'll go with the 'You're getting FOUR more games, so that's TWENTY THREE for the same price as NINETEEN! Isn't that kind of us!' way to make them think they are in fact doing us a favour. At least with the lower bands. Or chuck in a cup game for free. They may well have to reduce bands 1-2 as I don't think it'll be hard for a lot of those people to relocate their tickets to lower tiers (are you allowed to do that or do they forbid it?) or just ditch them and go game by game or reapply. I expect the 'waiting list' will melt away astonishingly and it won't be difficult to just go get another ticket in another part of the ground.

But I do suspect where UP was generally quite full in the champ seasons that it'll be a different story here seen as people who go for the sake of seeing premier league football won't bother any more and a lot who would have gone at UP have been driven away by the owners and their various actions. I can imagine a LOT of very cheap single matchday tickets being available.

They keep doing the red card thing on 15 minutes... It looks pathetic just a few supporters turning towards the board with their cards.. Hardly anyone in there gives a fuck the fan base at games is completely different to how they used to be.

I actually think the atmosphere will improve next season as it will filter out all the day tripping popcorn eating half and half scarf cunts.

Well you would know better than me as I'm not there, but it may depend on how the seating/sections are filled up, or not. Can you actually get an 'atmosphere' in there anyway, any noise/songs doesn't travel, right?
I suppose with all the space  fans (not customers) will go to where they want and will filter down to the lower seats.. I think its just a case of those that are trying to make a noise mixed in and surrounded by those that don't and maybe them not being there and the real fans more condensed will make for a better atmosphere, it wasn't noticeably worse last night to be fair.... Despite the  empty seats, I didn't think it was anyway.

Not sure what anyone else thinks?
Yep maybe that could work, that is going to take a bit of reorganizing logistically though over the summer you would think? Assume they will have to bring prices down too.

Disagree. History shows that our support isn't fickle and still show up regardless, and we have been in a slump for 3 years. People have finally run out of patience and had enough and are now staying away, it's not because we ain't winning. The same reason why so many fans stopped renewing their ST's.

When it’s 60,000 there are probably at least 10,000 tourists & Part Time Percy’s
Freezing January night on the back of no wins in 9 isn’t going to see them turn out
Should be interesting to see what crowds the Championship brings
Reckon those loyal types in the nose bleed seats will be able to take up lower tier seats
Am actually looking forward to an atmosphere generated by people who actually wanting to be there rather than popcorn munching day trippers

Yeah I woke up this morning and thought I know ill lie about a mate working at the stadium to make myself look big, why the fuck would knowing someone who works there make me look big.. It would be fucking weird... Loads of people must know someone who works at the stadium.. His whole job is working at different stadiums and sporting events he has his own company and it states on his Webpage he works at London Stadium amongst others.
Your "mate" is clearly not very good at his job if he thinks there was only 30k there last night then.

He's very good at his job I would presume or he wouldn't have contracts at top stadia including bigger clubs than ours. I've spoken to him personally about it before but not this time, as I said it was a comment he'd made to another West Ham fan a mutual friend. Just though I'd share it, but that is what he said, could have been a typo I have no idea.

I just don't get why anyone would lie about something so trivial as knowing someone who works at sporting events it would be a weird hill to die on.

One of the few positives of relegation for me will to cleanse the ground of tourists, day trippers and fickle, fair weather supporters.

I was there in the bitter cold last night and I will be there next season in the Championship as I support the team not the regime. Proper fans will continue to go regardless of relegation.

We've got an abundance of good young players, we can play all of them. Build a team we actually fucking like rather than a collection of cunts we have to support despite them giving nothing. I'm happy for a few years of that in the championship. No more Max fucking Kilman or Meathead Mavropanos.

Even better if Sully dies painfully and we get competent owners in that have ambition and want to do things right. I'd love that. The great reset.

Just need Sully to fall off his perch now.

Hopefully it will be like the great reset after the 1978 relegation.

I have an awful feeling that the photoshopped dictator will be hanging on until the bitter end.
I don’t  fancy what relegation might bring. Anyone decent is off likely at a massive loss. We’ll be left paying inflated wages for the donkeys that remain.

Sullivan will likely go if or when we don’t get up at the first or second attempt and the TV money dries up. With our debt he’ll be forced to pump huge amounts in or sell. Worst case is he drives us into administration.

In what scenario could we face a points deduction given huge on paper losses and how can we avoid that ?

Like I said I was surprised that he said it was that low. There were loads of seats empty around me and I was tempted to go over to the Billy Bonds second half to be nearer the end we were attacking as by the half way line there were so many empty seats which I've never seen before because people normally move down. There were blocks up top that were very sparse.

I've actually bought tickets for QPR because I thought FA Cup third round on a Saturday 3pm a bit old school and nostalgic... Naive cսnt aren't I

Bit of a perfect storm really.

Cold
Team of absolute shit
Game on TV

Understandable why people stayed at home. I think it's going to be similar for the rest of the season unless there's an extraordinary turnaround in performances which let's face it isn't going to happen and actually it probably will nosedive somewhat if we're virtually down by mid Feb. I'd expect some very low attendances for the last 4-5 home games. They've done the astonishing double in that hardcore won't go out of principle and new wave casuals just won't bother. There's the potential for big chunks of away fans getting in if there are 20-30k tickets floating about so it'll be interesting how they plan on dealing with that, exactly.
