the thing about The Diesel is the Jets had him playing fullback before he joined us (probably because of his size), but the man had a background in sprinting in college which made him so hard to tackle

A good running back to me is the platform for the offense (especially the passing game) to succeed off. It keeps the defence guessing, and stops them keying in on one strength. It's why I rate so highly players like Riggo, Payton and Adrian Peterson. We had the latter one last his mid thirties, but he was still a great professional. I didn't mention Barry Sanders as he always had clowns at QB, and I know Mcmahon wasn't perfect, but he had a decent year in 85

Running Backs are luxury players. Was Barkley worth going 2nd.? Absolutely. Should the Giants have pick him.? Absolutely not.! Being a New York boy. And having an industrial grade idiot as GM at the time. ( Gettleman you Melt.!) Didn't help. Hope he does well. Even at Philly. I still think the Lions will represent NFC in the Super Bowl. Come February.

Running backs are "luxury players"?  

I would hope not. Without a running game, defences would concentrate solely on the opposition's passing game, which would make things rather boring, for me anyways. 

I do love a properly executed draw play.

Jets released an update on Jordan Travis this week. His recovery from the ankle injury has been slow and he’s not going to be ready at any time during this season.

Back in 2025. Although, I hadn’t realised, he’ll be 25 years old when next season starts. Shouldn’t rule him out of an NFL career (indeed, might be handy that he’s a bit older and wiser). But he hasn’t played a single down of professional American football yet, and he’s approaching 25.

So I’d expect the Jets to draft another QB (maybe not first round), or target a free agent/trade, when they let Rodgers walk at the end of the season.

They’ll need options in case Travis doesn’t work out.

What a player that guy is. Best running back the league has seen for a few years, and currently on course to go past 2,000 yards in the season (if he stays injury-free, which is hard for backs these days).

Jets missed out on this guy by one draft place in 2018. Lost out on Mayfield to the Browns, then Barkley to the Giants, before taking Darnold at #3 (should have taken Josh Allen).

In a league obsessed with passers, I still like to see a nifty running back.

they have to let the next HC pick his own staff, not the quarterback or GM. travis wasn't a big runner, so he should be ok

SB, Travis was really good in college and very consistent. It's a no brainer giving him a chance as starter, it's only the injury that made him go that late in the draft





 

 

 

TM - yeah, I agree. Not sure how good he'll be coming back from a bad leg injury - but surely we have to give him a shot next season? We put him on IR over the summer, but he attends all of the walkthroughs and playbook sessions. He seems pretty studious. In theory, we could even activate him later this season if it becomes obvious that Rodgers isn't coming back in 2025.

There's so much to fix at the Jets - starting with the HC and co-ordinators - that a badly-coached, high-pick QB would just send us into the same directionless spiral we had with Darnold and Wilson. They need to fix the coaching and trenches first: if you can't block or run the ball, then any QB will struggle.
