Russell Brand
Dispatches tonight could be about him so he has jumped in first dismissing claims and rumours and saying anything he did in past was consensual. No doubt it will be said that this is The Matrix coming after him due to his opposition to mainstream media.

Re: Russell Brand
"So. YouTube, the arrogant bigoted prats have taken action against Russel Brand based simply on media led allegations. Why then, on that same YouTube, can I view entertainment videos of Rolf Harris, Garry Glitter, Stuart Hall & Jimmy Saville, all of whom, I'm pretty sure, were found guilty after trial in a court of law what Brand has only been accused of in the media? I assume they are not available as an act of charity on the part of Alphabet. Shame that they're too big for any sort of boycott of their products to have a meaningful reciprocating impact."

Re: Russell Brand
"You can, if you wish, choose your favourite progressive, centrist, left leaning or democrat podcast if you like but it needs to have a long narrative nature to flesh out ideas many of which might be difficult for the listener and require concentration and quite possibly further investigation if their interest has been properly piqued. In thr UK that might be the rest is politics. I dont like Alistair Campbell and find Roty Stewart conflicted but I'm going to hear both of them speak live at the weekend. I'll make my own judgements once I have had that opportunity and may ask a question of them."

"BRANDED wrote... What the likes of Brand, Peterson, Rogan etc ave done is return to a much longer form of narration That's actually hilarious, I very much doubt Sagan would've endorsed the sort of wooly nonsense the likes of Brand or Peterson comeout with. They are very much part of the problem"

Re: Russell Brand
"There is a quote from Carl Sagan's The Demon-Haunted World about the dumbing down of America. The ultimate end point of that is 10 second sound bites or pithy memes. In isolation with no context you either love or loath them. What the likes of Brand, Peterson, Rogan etc ave done is return to a much longer form of narration that demands a lot more detail and a huge amount of attention and resilience to ideas that may challenge the infantile dumbed down mind."
Re: Russell Brand
"Switching from loony lefty to right wing libertarian is not a massive leap, and actually seems quite common these days. Both types get to be anti-establishment and feel like they're cool and hip unlike the fuddy duddy squares in Tory Land and both types like to think of themselves as more intelligent and enlightened than the masses."

Re: Russell Brand
"So, Russell ""leftie"" Brand was a sexist, serial shagger, junkie, and possible sex pest? And now he's a right wing nut job, he's law abiding, sober, and attempts to seek out the truth on things?"

Re: Russell Brand
"All he's doing is tailoring his content. I used to do that on my CV when applying for a contract - use words and phrases that I expect the advertiser to want to see. No lies, just refocussing the emphasis. Every individual of that filtered audience still has to make the positive choice to watch/listen to him, just as my CV had to get past the first hurdle; whatever he does he can only influence, not force that participation. The focus is on the individual audience member in actually having that choice, which is not the same as the requirement of the seller., who would rather hope that the only possible choice was his/her/their product or service."

Re: Russell Brand
"Re Left and Right He was made famous by C4, BBC,Guardian etc! “George Monbiot nominated Brand as his “hero of the year” in 2014. “Brand’s openness about his flaws makes him a good leader, and allows those who admire him to be good followers,” wrote Monbiot. “He’s the best thing that has happened to the Left in years.” But Brand’s “openness about his flaws” did not mean he was reformed. It was a strategic move to flannel those who were naive enough to confuse confession with salvation. In 2015, Brand endorsed Ed Miliband (after previously telling his followers not to vote). “Russell Brand has endorsed Labour — and the Tories should be worried,” was the headline on an Owen Jones column. Brand returned the favour by blurbing Jones’s book The Establishment: “Owen Jones… is our generation’s Orwell and we must cherish him.” The Tories did not need to worry, of course. They won the general election.”"

Re: Russell Brand
"Yes Russ. I have said it several times now. I like his stuff and find him entertaining but also read the Telegraph, the Guardian, The Canary and countless other papers. I like to see what other people are reading or hearing. Sometimes its hard to observe but over time you get to realise how utterly polarised people get when seeing stuff from one position. The Telegraph opened up one comment section on one of their countless headlining articles on Brand and there appeared to be around 75% support for him but they had to pull it as the detractors were writing libellous stuff. For me this is revealing. Most were of the opinion that he should not be tried by the court of public opinion and should, if there is any case to defend, defend it through the proper legal process."

Re: Russell Brand
"BRANDED 11:56 Tue Sep 19 isn't that just what TV producers do? Give their audience what they want? Like MOTD, Eastenders, Emmerdale... They know their audience and produce shows that their audience want. Same with stand up comedians. I mean, Micky Flanagan isn't going to do a tour where he talks about global politics and left wing woke stuff. Whereas Frankie Boyle isn't going to do cockney pub lad comedy. Brand is just doing his thing and if people tune in then they do and if they aren't interested then they don't. I think your giving him too much credit."

"BRANDED 11:56 Tue Sep 19 Are you claiming that he's not in any way relying on his audience to make a decision to listen to/watch him? Does he possess ""The Force"", Luke, or what?"

Re: Russell Brand
"Mike That's utter nonsense. Lets say he's used advertising to bring people to his channel. He would select a number of characteristics to hone down the type of people he might wish to be true fans. Admittedly as he does wellness, footy talk and questioning mainstream narratives he has quite a broad demographic to target but lets say its the third one. He could choose some good similar content and bang, he has a particular group of people. What he's clever at is giving them what they want BUT also couching it in a much more nuanced way. He always quotes sources of high repute, INCLUDING mainstream media. Obviously once the channel is successful there will be a much more natural attraction to similar people as the current fans share his videos and the algorithms kick in."

"Russ it's true, it just needs to be something which is disagreed with. Whether its protestors having bank accounts frozen, Farage having bank accounts closed or someone mentioned to me the Julian Assange story which I didnt really follow at the time but he was accused of rapes after exposing government, no idea if ever convicted but isnt he still banged up?"

Re: Russell Brand
"The Police have 1,000 officers suspended for suspected crimes. Meanwhile, Brand pedals ‚Äúconspiracy nonsense‚Äù from someone who‚Äôve never seen them. Brand questions official narratives and the consequences of the rich and powerful on ordinary people. He directs a lot of this at Americans and America as they are still ahead of us on this but its often true of the UK too. If you dont like to question these narratives as it complicates your life too much, fair enough. But if you‚Äôve not seen them you must by a bit of a cսnt to pass judgement?"

"long neck, not sure where you're getting that I'm part of his audience. I've always had him down as controlled opposition, so yet again you haven't got a fucking clue what you're talking about. you don't get a channel as big as his on youtube if you're not part of the system, much like that creepy cսnt Dr with the whiteboard that didn't stop pushing the poison jabs, then suddenly changed his tune. go and find a politics site you cսnt, and do this site a favour"
