Woke watch
"There is a very good section on GB news where the ludicrous idiocies of Wokeness are looked at I thought we would should have one for WHO. I'll start with Baptiste on BBC: In Hungary,an ambassador's family are kidnapped by Islamic terrorists and carry out atrocities. At the end of the last episode Baptiste finds out that it is a false flag operation and conveniently, the real culprits are white supremacists who want to stop all immigration. Coronation Street ITV a gay black footballer is stopped by the police, because he is driving an expensive car. He is pushed to the ground during an altercation, and damages his leg threatening his career. Could have been written by Dawn Butler or a BLM activist."

"Surf - you said (note accurate use of double quotation marks: ""In any case, in this particular instance, of a person who purported to be independent but was in fact an agent of the opposition bringing about the downfall of the Prime Minister, it would be a term that might be accurate."" The FACT is that Sue Gray didn't bring down a Prime Minister. Nor is there any evidence she has not been impartial. There's less still that she was an agent of the opposition."

Re: Woke watch
"FO Double or single inverted commas isn't the issue, although it was YOU who tried to make it so. Punctuation IS the issue - you used quotation marks around something JRM didn't say. Your subsequent squirming has also made it clear you knew you were doing that - first it was in error, then it was deliberate but wasn't actually a quote, then it was irrelevant. Finally, perhaps you can point out precisely where my description of Gray's alleged behaviour is factually wrong. Good luck with that."

"Good morning. Surf. Pick up any publication and you will see double quotation marks depict direct quotes. And, even allowing for your love of pedantry, punctuation is not really the issue here is it? Much as perhaps you'd like it to be. At least by omission if not admission, you apparently accept you posted a load of tosh in relation to Sue Gray's involvement in Johnson's downfall. A clear attempt to misrepresent the facts to suit an argument - something you normally rail against. ."

"Fo the Communist 12:36 Wed Mar 8 'Blimey Surf, you are up for a row aren't you? It was errant punctuation. I have said as much.' Erm... you also said that you used that phrase because it was what JRM meant. Actually, in the absence of your being a mind-reader, we have to assume he meant what he said. 'Had I wanted to attribute it directly to JRM I would have used double speech marks, as is the norm.' And that, my friend, is just about the biggest load of bollocks ever posted on here. In UK English single inverted quotation marks are commonly used. Double quotation marks are reserved for a quote within a quote. But it's a piss-poor excuse in any case. All these fibs and you a supporter of the nice party... so that makes it OK."

And the Gray report didn't bring down the PM. What did for your beloved Boris was when 60 of his ministers resigned after he knowingly promoted a sex pest. and then sent out his hapless troops to lie on his behalf. You either have a short memory or you are warping the facts to suit your agenda. The sort of behaviour you normally jump all over when others do it, in fact. ."

"Fo the Communist 11:52 Tue Mar 7 'Surf. For clarity, the use of single quotation marks was my errant punctuation. I was not suggesting JRM had used that phrase - but it is the implication of his words.' Ah, I see. So you knew he didn't say it and decided to spice up his words a bit to make your argument appear stronger. Nothing to see there, then. And after all, you are of the left and are nice so normal rules don't apply. 'But if you really believe this,,, ""In any case, in this particular instance, of a person who purported to be independent but was in fact an agent of the opposition bringing about the downfall of the Prime Minister, it would be a term that might be accurate."" ..then it's no surprise you and JRM are firm bedfellows.' If you believe it's OK for a civil servant to present themself as politically neutral, prepare a report that brings down the government and then take a senior paid job in the opposition party, then the is no hope for the decent left. If had been a Tory civil servant and a Labour PM you would be rightly outraged. But I forgot, it's OK because you are the nice ones and normal rules don't apply. Interestingly, in the link you gave there's a video of an interview with Keir Starmer in which he refuses eight times to say when he offered her the job. So, nothing to hide there, then."

Re: Woke watch
The BBC were describing anti immigration protesters as far right. I am sure that there are a few old racist slapheads that latch on to these things but i am also pretty sure that the far right comments by the reporters etc. are meant to shut down debate. We had a BBC show this morning with a very rude African lady saying that those who support controlling immigration are racsts and also said they were politically illiterate.

"'Enemy of the state'? I don't see that exact quote, though I may have missed it. I guess it must be there because you put it in quotation marks. Perhaps they are 'scare quotes'. In any case, in this particular instance, of a person who purported to be independent but was in fact an agent of the opposition bringing about the downfall of the Prime Minister, it would be a term that might be accurate."

"Surf, going over old ground now mate. I've said there's currently no equivalence between the terms but have made the case that the terms applied to the left are becoming increasingly pejorative. As highlighted by JRM who laid bare the current use - that of a 'enemy of the state'. Slippery slope. You seem to have an odd view of what populism is. And I don't see things quite so binary as Tories = thick, Labour = clever. Nor do you, I suspect."

Re: Woke watch
"FO No,mate. We can't just agree to differ. You are wrong. Unless you can show a specific example of JRM using 'socialist' in the same way as the left use, for example 'fascist' you don't have a case. Just not liking the person who uses a word doesn't change the meaning of a word. If Labour don't like being described a 'socialist' they should stop describing themselves as a socialist party. The example you have linked to is evidence to those who are already opposed to JRM. How can you honestly be surprised that a friend of a PM who has been brought down by a supposedly independent report be incensed that the chair of the committee that produced the damning report should then immediately join Labour? Of course he thinks she has connived. On balance, so do I. He describes her as 'a friend of the socialists'. Well, she's clearly a friend of the Labour Party, so, according to Labour, he's bang on the money, isn't he? 'People can have legitimate - and mistaken or overstated - fears and not be thick and/or racist. ' So, still too stupid to spot the truth, even on your second attempt to muddy the waters. 'Populists feed on that and offer false solutions.' People still too stupid or deluded to see through these false solutions, eh? 'I don't think I have ever said people holding views different to mine are either thick or racist.' With regard to 'populist' a term you used several times, you seem to have spent all afternoon unsuccessfully attempting to find a form of words that avoids saying just that. 'To suggest those are my views is putting words in my mouth is it not?' Not if you are unable, as you have been, of finding another interpretation of 'populist' 'Are you saying there are no modern left-wing populists?' I wouldn't ever use the term populist, so the question is null. Plus I never suggested anything of the sort in the first place."

"comma, I get you can’t stand the tories they are indeed the worst at not hiding their snobbery BUT you have to start seeing the Labour mob are cut from the same cloth. Because of who they try to represent they have to be more devious in hiding their disdain for the vast majority of us remember Brown getting caught out after getting what for from the old dear? It’s about time you let go that one party is an improvement over the other they are all cunts who think they are well above of us rabble. The thing that irks is there is no excuse for our type to not start entering into politics and doing well calling out this middle /upper class facade that pretends to have our best interests."

Sunak also accused Truss of promoting socialist policies in a TV debate. It was meant as a pejorative term not just in an internecine context.

Re: Woke watch
", I see you have leapt to FO's defence with the JRM thing - which is in any case a massive straw man. Two things: 1) How is JRM describing his more centrist colleagues' policies as 'socialist' in any way different to Labour politicians describing Tony Blair as a 'Tory'? Labour is a socialist party. The meaning in both examples is 'these people are in the wrong party'. A deadly insult to a professional politician perhaps, but registering precisely nowhere in the public consciousness. 2) How is that relevant to a discussion on the relative severity as a pejorative of 'leftie' and 'far-right'?"

"Surf ""I fail to see how using the word that the LP have always and still do describe themselves can possibly be pejorative."" If you fail to see it, you fail to see it. But if you haven't noticed the word increasingly being used in the context of a fifth columnist then you've not been watching modern politics - nor JRM - closely. https://www.msn.com/en-gb/news/uknews/jacob-rees-mogg-calls-sue-gray-conniving-friend-of-the-socialists/ar-AA18jGfM?ocid=entnewsntp&cvid=d26e6d0f20fe42f4859c888fb2cc2a44&ei=6 ""I didn't put any words in your mouth, I merely pointed out the only possible meaning of the phrase, one which you aptly demonstrate, here:"" People can have legitimate - and mistaken or overstated - fears and not be thick and/or racist. "only1billybonds 8:19 Tue Mar 7 Interesting you mention that I was watching something that claimed that Trump's win derailed the US program to start a war in Ukraine, by 4 years. Obviously, Clinton getting bombed wasn't in the script for a one world leader by this time, also look at Belorussia for an attempted coup and the pressure on Moldova and Hungary to fall into EU/US line."

Re: Woke watch
"Two events triggered frequent use of the term 'far right, those being the election of Trump and the Brexit vote. So incensed were/are those opposed to these events that they completely lost their minds and topped the far right bandwagon up with hatred juice and set it in motion. Iv'e known plenty of people, including some posters on here who proudly claim their support of left wing politics/ideas and good for them. Never heard anyone claim to be far right though, if there really were that many, surely at least some would have made themselves known? Only the other day, Sadiq Khan was labelling those opposed to his ULEZ scheme as far right extremists and lumped them in with 'anti vaxers' and covid deniers. It really has got a little bit silly now and any sane person accused of being far right by someone should do no more than laugh in their face. Pathetic cunts."
