West Ham United is delighted to confirm the signing of England midfielder Kalvin Phillips on loan until the end of the 2023/24 season. The 28-year-old joins the Hammers from Manchester City and could make his debut in Thursday’s Premier League fixture with AFC Bournemouth at London Stadium.

"Yeah, don't think we'd get away with that Ludo, although it's probably not something VAR can adjudicate on, so as long as we can get it past the referee we might be OK"

"A starting 12, ludo. Interesting. We might just see some of the football in a few games."

It would involve Soucek and JWP dropping to the bench (so very unlikely) but I'd like to see us set up with proper wing backs like this: ---------------------- Areola ---------Mavro ---- Zouma ----Aguerd Proper WB------------------------------Emerson ---------------Phillips ------ Alvarez ----------------------- Paqueta ---- Kudus -----------Bowen ------ Osman geezer Should be tight enough at the back to satisfy Moyes yet offer fantastic attacking potential with Lucas picking out the runs of the front three. JWP and Soucek as option B from the bench.

Jaan - I think you will see that Phillips is a superior player to JWP.

He is very likely to be the link from defence to attack that gets the ball to those that score and assist.......we are missing that type of player.

He does drive forwards though and pass forwards so not side to side. We will see next Thursday hopefully.

"‘JWP is very underwhelming, sideways, backwards’ Won’t be any better with Phillips. He has one goal and 3 assists in his time in the PL."

"Russ of the BML 3:25 Thu Jan 25 I don't make him right at all, he walks into our side. JWP is very underwhelming, sideways, backwards, nobody else wanted him apart from us, even his set pieces are generally crap. Soucek is a park player, and tbf to Moyes he has left him out before and will again. No way has Phillips left City on to come to us on 170 bags a week with the Euro's coming up to sit alongside our clowns on the bench. Ain't happening."

Can't wait to see us line up with Moyes' new patented hyper negative tactics with two holding midfielders and Soucek in the middle of the park. BIG THUMBS UP

"I’m not really keen on this deal. Obviously a high profile England international, but in a position we don’t really need. At 29 years old it’s not exactly a long term signing either. Typical of Sullivan and Moyes though. Takes zero scouting or insight."

"Russ of the BML 3:25 Thu Jan 25 Come on Russ, you could chop his feet off and he still hobbles into our side."

"I heard Gabby Agbonglahor on TS today and he said what a great signing it was for West Ham and Phillips. However, he did say, Phillips isn't walking into mediocore relegation club who would put him straight in and probably make him captain. He said this is West Ham. Huge club. 6th in league and have a really solid squad. He said Phillips will be competing with JWP, Soucek and Alvarez and so, based on that, he reckons that Phillips cannot even guarantee to walk straight into the team. I made him right to be fair."

Yup- barely seen anyone say anything other than Phillips is a good player and improves us as a team and a squad. Pointless flame post. People's genuine concern is how the manager goes about accommodating and/or rotating our four central midfielders sensibly and actually keeping everyone happy.
