Euro 2024 - Inc Southgate resignation

"We seem to have an England v Bosnia thread but not an actual Euro 2024 thread so here it is So, do we realistically think England can win it? On paper we obviously have a very talented squad but I just don't see us going all the way. For me it's ""same old"" when it comes to England. Breeze the group, favourable draw in last 16 and win then up against far superior opposition in the QFs and out. At best I can see us at the SF stage before being beaten again. Winners for me: France, Portugal, Spain Dark horses: Germany - even though it's a home tournament they've been in a consolidation period, could go close Biggest flops: Scotland - no goals scored Top goalscorer: Mbappe I'm just hoping it's a decent tournament with plenty of decent games that's not ruined by VAR (are they using it?) consolidation period but could go close"

One goal and 3 assists which puts him up there with anyone in the competition. But yeh some clown who thinks he’s Australian says ‘no end product’.

"It's a bit unlucky but if you're gonna lift your foot and show your studs you need to get it right. Elsewhere on the pitch if you get it wrong it's a free kick and a yellow, the stakes are just much higher in the box. He got it wrong in the box, can't really complain too much about it."

Shaw has to start the semi final. the returning Real Madrid RB and the young Abo will be too much for Trippier

"never a pen for me, Kane kicks the bottom of his foot. But... you see it all the time elsewhere on the pitch, where a defender clears the ball, striker tries to block it and they kick the striker in the follow through but still get a free kick (Defoe got sent off for it against West Brom years ago) so I do think it's at least consistent. Consistently wrong, but consistent"

cholo 10:49 Thu Jul 11 Kind of borderline decision that may go one way with just a human ref and another with VAR. Ironic really as VAR is supposed to clear up any doubt and controversy.

Dont know how Kane is starting every game. He has been shocking and doesnt suit the young energetic players around him that want to move the ball quickly. He repeatedly loses the ball. We win games when we take him off. Yet again his contribution is a penalty. England are very prone on set plays but I expect Spain to be very much more to feet fast paced and direct. That might suit us. Guehi is quicker than I thought. The weakness is left back. Yamal will have a field day. Rice needs a much better game. His performances have been pretty poor for him. It's a final I didnt expect and we probably didnt deserve but we are there. Just hope the final is worth watching and not a stale briefest with neither side wanting to lose.

"Probably need a tin hat for this, but when I saw the replay of the Kane incident (before var intervened) I thought it was a probably pen. The challenge was clumsy, high and late and we see them give in the prem. Not saying it wasn't on the soft side, maybe too soft for var to change it normally, but it was borderline."

"Faux - You like to come across like some kind of authority, but half the time you just spout a load of old shit, laced with your usual vendetta's about certain individuals clouding your judgement. Shaw may not be fit enough to start and he didn't improve us second half, Kane won and dispatched the penalty and could yet get the golden boot. I said earlier in the week that starting Kane is OK but bring him off earlier, which is exactly what happened. If Watkins starts games he may not have the same impact as he does coming on late to stretch defenses, same with Palmer, who set the goal up, and who would you leave out for Palmer? Saka, no doubt, who has probably been our best player this tournament."

"Gareth you need to be brave against the Spanish who will play a high line. I say drop Kane and start Watkins.........And didn't Alf Ramsey do similar and controversially dropped Jimmy Greaves in favour of Geoff Hurst in 1966? and the rest is history. Nobody will claim that Hurst was better than Greaves just as none could say Watkins is better than Kane but sometimes a player is more suited to the team. Kane's is not suited to this team with runners behind. Its a team with some great talent in that area (Foden, Bellingham, Palmer and Eze), they need a CF with pace who will run the channels and play off the defenders shoulder, Step forward Ollie......"

"Southgate has got us there, fuck knows how but he has so fair play. If we lose being brave fair enough, if we lose like we did against Italy then yes it will be a failure. You're right what you say about the way he has the moral and unity of the squad on point. But losing finals and semis isn't success when we have players good enough to win it."

"Brilliant goal for the winner, never a pen & if he‚Äôd start with Shaw, Palmer & Watkins it would be a much less difficult task Always wary when teams breeze through like Spain & it just feels like England have their name on the trophy under Lord Southgate of Croydon The jammy cսnt"

"The problem I see is Spain are very slick in the final third and although we have defended OK this tournament our defense hasn't been tested massively yet and as said before the tournament that is our weakness, so I can see Spain unlocking us. Shaw may start but not convinced that will improve us that much, I just don't see how we keep them out, which means we might need two goals, or even three, so we need to be firing and take our chances. All that said it might be 0-0, at least we have pens in our back pocket, I think Spain have an even worst record than England with pens. Even though Southgate must now get a 'pass' for reaching the final it will still be very disappointing not to win it and no doubt will still be a failure in many peoples eyes, certainly by a few on here anyway :-)"

"It may be one too many, but I think being underdogs will help, Spain have already won it in most people's minds. We can do it, we've definitely got the players. We were very good first half. Of course if I had to put money on it it would go on Spain, butaynr just maybe with all that's happened our name is on. It and it's coming home."

"If we win the thing it he might still be tempted to try win a world cup too as Sir Gareth SouthGOAT and will have the FA and the players heavily trying to talk him into it, but the criticism has clearly rattled him and in his mind no doubt feels that he isn't appreciated etc. What I will say about him is yes he can be questioned on tactics and ''bravery'' but his detail to planning, work ethic and getting a good comradery within the squad is really top notch and he should at least get some credit for that. ''One game too many'' is my feeling for Sunday, seriously hope I'm wrong though, and it's really about time we won this competition."

Kane could win another golden boot if he nicks another pen or somehow gets on the end of something. I can't see him winning player of the tournament though.
