NFL (since 2016)

"Free agency started last night and was pretty crazy some huge money being spent. Osweiler getting £18m a year for the Texans, leaving the Broncos without a QB, Giants have spent a fortune on good but not great players, Oliver Vernon has more guaranteed money than JJ Watt. lots more deals but cant be bothered to list them all."

"Judge coached under Nick Saban and Bill bellichick so im sure he's picked up alot, I'm pretty sure he would have gotten a promotion this offseason if McDaniels left and could well have been the next OC as he was coaching the wide receivers last year at the same time as special teams."

"Word from some of the well-informed NFL writers is that Jerry Jones only sacked Garrett because the Giants wanted to land McCarthy ahead of the Giants. That left the Giants in a quandry - and they then lost out to the Panthers over Rhule. Either way, they've got the man who used to carry Bill Belichick's cut-off hoodies and water bottles. Tits."

"That is a weird hire by the Giants. There has long been a view that coaches who have been anywhere near Belichick are all the better for it. But this is taking it to a new level altogether! Reading between the lines, looks like the Giants lost out on their preferred candidate (McCarthy), and possibly even their back-up plan (Rhule) - hence they've taken the Patsies cone carrier."

Panthers have hired very highly rated college coach Matt Rhule who resurrected the failing Baylor programme. Everyone thought he'd go to the giants but he offered them the chance to match the deal the panthers gave him and they chose not to.

"Mike McCarthy is a good head coach. He should have been a shoo-in at the Jets for this season and wanted to come to Gotham (believe it or not) - but our foolish co-owner opted for The Idiot Gase (TIG) instead. I don't like the idea of McCarthy at the Cowgirls, though. Just hope he falls out with Jerry Jones. He will try to insist on doing things his way, which Jones won't like. So the seeds of the destruction of that partnership are already there!"

"Giants are hiring Pats special teams coach Joe judge as their new Head Coach, way out of left field but i know he was very highly thought of in New England. Could lose Joe Judge, Josh mcDaniels and Brady this offseason! Just be Bill and his son coaching everything"

"That early 2000s generation of QBs has been incredible - as good as the 1983 draft (although, that year they literally all entered the NFL at the same time, whereas the 2000s mob were spread out over a few seasons). They've seen a lot of QBs come and go during their time - some excellent play-callers (like Luck) and some utterly over-rated trash (like Russell). And they're all still going."

"Yep agreed. Eli's form fell off a cliff two seasons ago. He's actually quite poor now. He was never ""elite"" level like his brother, Brady and Brees, but was first-class when at his best. Those days are long behind him. I think Roethlisberger has a big decision to make, too. His issue is more about injuries, which were already limiting his mobility and now (with the latest elbow problem) threaten his ridiculous arm strength. He still has ridiculous arm strength. Be interesting to see how he comes back from missing pretty much the whole season with a major injury to his throwing arm. I think he's still on a giant contract through to the end of 2021."

"Think Manning will retire this year he's essentially said he doesnt want to be a backup and nobody will want him as their starter based on his last 2/3 years of play. He'd be wise to retire now as there will be a flock of QBs as mentioned all leaving the game soon, Eli could get a jump on them for the HOF voting and really limit his competition if he leaves a year earlier."

"Cystal - if Brady goes all in next season, and Belichick opts to put weapons around him for one final surge, then you can have Bell. He was criminally under-used by The Idiot Gase last season and is still a good runner. The Jets have needs across the board (O-Line in particular), so it would make sense to cut Bell despite the investment. The quid pro quo would be a signed document from Brady and Belichick stating that they will both retire at the end of 2020. They could even sign it on a napkin. ;-)"

"Two good wildcard games last night. Both bruising encounters, though. You wonder what effect that will have the Hawks and Vikes next week, up against teams that have had a week off. Play-offs have been decent so far. I'm enjoying it all. One point on the Brady/Brees/2000s generation of QBs: I do worry that Brady and Brees (in particular), but also Roethlisberger, Manning and Rodgers, will stumble on for a season or two too long purely because they are all in some way in competition with other members of that ""club"" for NFL legendary status. Brady and Brees, for example, are in a terminal battle for historical numbers of TDs and yardage etc. You get the impression that neither man wants to blink and retire before the other. That's all well and good, but I can just (jokingly) envisage a situation where both crocked and ageing men are leading their offences at the age of 68, throwing backwards screens to 22 year-old running backs, just to stay one score ahead of each other. The brave man in that group is the man who says ""fuck it, I've done more than enough, played my guts out and made a fortune"" and leaves the scene at precisely the right time. And you watch, once one of them goes, others will follow suit. It's currently a stare off."

"Almost a shame Brady has gone on for so long, if he'd have retired at a normal age for a QB, we could have gone straight from brady to Jimmy G and maybe had another 10-15 years of at least playoff calibre teams every year."

"They tried to get him a running back they drafted Sony Michel in the first round, he's just not very good, think Nick Chubb was taken like a pick or 2 after him, could be a totally different team with that tank in the backfield."

"I saw a couple of people linking him with the Chargers a while back but when asked Willie Mcginest who played for the pats for years said that Giselle hates LA so not sure they'd be moving there. Would just hate to see him in any other uniform would feel wrong. Hopefully they can go all in, should have a decent amount of cap space as they have a lot of free agents, just bring in 2-3 new receivers and a tight end and go for one last run."
