Re: Kalvin Philips done
"It's always a big positive if you sign a player who improves your first eleven, and he does, the caveat though would be if the rumours are true about Alvarez being out long term, then Phillips just really becomes a replacement. One more top signing and we might have a chance of hanging onto 6th spot."
Re: Kalvin Philips done
"Lots of ifs around his fitness but at his best he has the potential to make a big difference imo. Another it is who he replaces. A sand man says Soucek. Whilst the wide left birth and central attacker, right back and central defence areas are also areas that need addressing, the central midfield is where most of the game is played and being able to compete and keep the ball in that region should mean more opportunities to create chances going forward rather than the counter attacking and set pieces of Moyes sit deep in shape system. Against the better teams it still has its place but we struggle with getting and keeping the ball against most teams in part due to “carrying”’the likes of Soucek in that area. It should mean less pressure on our defenders and the ability to play out more from the back. The other huge it is Moyes tactics. He should have the ability with Alvarez, Phillips, JWP and Paqueta, Kudus, Bowen etc. to play thru the lines. And the ability to go direct but only as needed using subs like Soucek and the old Antonio battering ram late in games Well that’s my hope. Wishful thinking maybe and we shall soon see. But not having to watch us a man short with the technically inept and painfully slow Soucek every minute of every game is progress"

"Pedro 12:18 Wed Jan 24 Pedro, i think that 70 million bid included Raphinha in the deal, it was a Sullivan special i think, 2 for the price of 1.....LOL Mind you i think City paid around 50 Mill for Philips, so 40 is still good if we end up buying, good deal IMO with the try before you buy. Yorkammer 2:46 Wed Jan 24 Exactly! You can't have it both ways, thin squad, no depth blah blah blah OR who do we drop? LOL, Hopefully Soucek is the one who makes way but watch this space!!!"
Re: Kalvin Philips done
"Best years in front of him, English, good character, has something to prove and is trying to get into the England squad. Plus he can play a little too. Will fit in nicely to our squad as a regular starter. Great addition for the rest of this season. I’m a happy hammer if he does come aboard. If he does I’d expect him to sign a permanent deal in the summer."
Re: Kalvin Philips done
ELLIOTTSHAMMERS 2:35 Wed Jan 24 That's far too sensible for the site spastics. The same idiots who moan about a signing like Phillips are the same ones who also moan about the squad lacking quality in depth.

"If people in this forum do not think he will improve our squad think back to the shit we have signed over the years, journeymen, end of career has beens etc We have Ward Prowse, Paquetta, Bowen, Kudas and now hopefully Phillips Tell me when we have had better players than that in a starting 11? Tell me when we last finished in the top 6 two seasons out of 3 possibly 3 out of 4, won a European Trophy and had a stadium that holds over 60,000 people Get a fucking reality check some of you SO CALLED supporters, seriously such twats on here"

"Kalvin Phillips is a target of opportunity. It's not a strategic move, He's a quality player that became available. It's why I ended up with a large kitchen clock at a Pottery Barn Outlet when I was looking for a sofa. We all know what positions we need strengthening."

Re: Kalvin Philips done
Very underwhelmed by this signing. It just stinks of Moyes’s negativity. The season’s going to be nearly over by the time he gets up to speed. We have far more pressing needs than another DM.
Re: Kalvin Philips done
IF he van stay fit and IF he's got any level of fitness and IF he's paying instead of Soucek then this is at best a passable signing. But the chances of all those things happening is pretty close to zero I reckon.

Re: Kalvin Philips done
Vexed He's not Dec just accept it he's a proper midfielder and if it means Soucek is benched he improves the team. However he does not guarantee that Moyes will finally see Tomas's shortcomings.

Re: Kalvin Philips done
"Like others have said, i just hope its Soucek who is going to be dropped when they are all fit, its a big if though! Im not as anti Soucek as others as he does pop up with crucial goals and gets into good positions during attacks, its what he does (or lack of) in between that's the issue, he may actually be a good asset to have on the bench IMO and need a fresh pair of legs who can make an impact off the bench."
Re: Kalvin Philips done
To think we bid about 70 million for him when he went to City this is good bit of business.
Re: Kalvin Philips done
"He will solve the soft spot we’ve had in front of our centre backs all season , why do think we signed him."
