West Ham United is delighted to confirm the signing of England midfielder Kalvin Phillips on loan until the end of the 2023/24 season. The 28-year-old joins the Hammers from Manchester City and could make his debut in Thursday’s Premier League fixture with AFC Bournemouth at London Stadium.

"Vexed watch this, loads of long accurate forward balls and a couple of free kicks scored too... He's much more than you say. He drives forward and carries the ball. https://youtu.be/ERKGaOVYKlE?si=eiUyFmn8XJ7EgC0G"

"The problem with this move isn’t Philips, who I’m sure is all very good. It’s Moyes and we all know he’ll use him as an alternative to Alvarez while he keeps playing his useless fetish Soucek."

"Turn it in, he's a defensive midfielder all day long. All he got in his locker is tackling, and sideways passes. Can't wait to see the levels of negative Moyes can achieve now!"

"Can't say I'm too exited about this but it depends on which Kalvin Phillips we're getting. If it's the one who was the heartbeat of that dynamic Leeds side under Bielsa, great. But if it's the one who has done very little of note in an England shirt for the last couple of years and who looks totally out of place on the odd occasion he plays for City, no thanks. But it has to be said, either of those would be better than Soucek."

"I think it's a great signing, if he stays fit. In so many games we don't keep hold of the ball and it was evident against Sheffield United that we lost the midfield too often with Soucek chasing shadows and JWP too deep. Assuming Moyes does the right thing and drops Soucek for Phillips, and midfield three of Phillips, JWP and Alvarez with Paqueta, Kudus and Bowen could be cracking. You could rotate that front three all through the game."

"We need a striker (or two) and at least two full backs. Having said that, Philips is a very good player and will make us better. I just hope Moyes doesn't think that Alvarez and Phillips can unleash the full potential of Soucek"

"When Moyes came back for his second stint and got in the Czech's we were pressing so much better, then we got knackered towards the end but it was the best football under Moyes.....I think Phillips will bring this back into the team and allow some off load for Alvarez on the chasing around alone. He's a snap at your ankles type of player that can stop the opposition settling down to attack so often. If we are going to play his shit for the rest of the season Phillips may be able to make it a better watch and prevent it being the Alamo all the time."

"Some of you make me laugh, are we so massive we don't want a regular England International in our squad? Also it would not surprise me if making the deal permanent in the summer would mean £30-50m to us and Phillips with Paqueta going to City."

"Moyes won't drop his Czech boy, he'll move him to centre back for his aerial abilities"

"And if think we're nagative now, just think how negative we'll be when we've got two holding midfielders and Soucek on the pitch. FUCK OFF"

"Shit signing on multiple levels. cսnt ain't played for two years, gonna be well off the pace. cսnt is always injured. What fucking use will he be? We already have a better player in his position. Moyes will be obliged to play the cսnt, which means either dropping Alvarez or playing pineapple head out of position. Money would have been better spent elsewhere. Why the fuck do we think City are so desperate to get rid? It's cos he's shit. Moyes signing which means the club have officially lost the plot if they let that cսnt spend another penny. What a load of fucking shit. Where's out fuckin left sided attacker and where's our fucking striker Moyes you cսnt?"

Quite flattering that he has chosen us instead of the likes of the Old Lady.

"yngwies Cat 10:09 Actually on that, I do hope there's not some sort of clause where he's an automatic pick if he's fit. Unlikely I am sure, but hopefully not."

"Reporter ""So David, how do you see Kalvin Phillips slotting in?"" Moyes, ""Well he hasn't played a lot so we will need to get him up to speed and ease him in. Should see him in the first team by around mid March""!"
