"Good signing, better than most of our midfield and who knows if he enjoys it while on loan could lead to permanent deal."

H&P you genuinely belive Moyes won't pair Alvarez and Phillips together?

"If he is allowed to form a partnership with Alvarez, I’ll get it. But I just don’t see that happening with Moyes around."

"Looking back over the midfield performances in our last 4 games, this is definitely a good signing"

"I do, when Alvarez is not playing we look crap/weak doing that low block shit........with Phillips here I think he will be much better cover for that than what we currently have and them two together could be a revelation especially in Europe."

"Very good signing if he can get the rust off and stay fit. Although a lot of people think of him as a defensive midfielder he is more of a box to box type. If his legs hold up he can help us get up the pitch quicker. Has a good range of passing and if I'm honest although not as good as Rice, he does fill a gap we have for a play er to help breaking up play and driving the team forward."

Keep Moaning 8.31 .don't you ever have anything positive to post? His incentive is to get games and play well and be picked for Euro24

"""Why only a loan with no option to buy? What is his incentive to give it all?"" 1) The media is reporting that there is an option to buy (don't know what cost though) 2) What was Lingard's incentive when he joined us without an option in place?"

"Not sure what to expect about this signing, or to precise, loan signing. Firstly, who is he supposed to step in for? If Soucek, fine. If Alvarez then fuck right off. Why only a loan with no option to buy? What is his incentive to give it all? Moyes OUT"

"Would be lovely for some sort of similar effect! I guess for me it depends on the ins and outs. If Alvarez is crocked for an extended time this is a very good bit of business. If Alvarez is just given the Fornals treatment despite being fit then it's not great. Hope if Alvarez is fit, he genuinely rotates the four of them to keep us fresh and firing for the second half of the season. Gives us a lot of options. There's no way I'm going deny Philips is objectively a good player though."

"Must admit I used to be against this sort of loan deal before what happened when Edgar Davids went to Barcelona in January about 20 years ago. They were mid table at the time and he was the main reason they ended up 2nd. I was watching a lot of Spanish football at the time and he totally transformed them, a lot more than you'd expect for a defensive midfielder. Without him Rijkaard would likely have been sacked and they might not have ended up dominating European football for years. Having said all that, if this signing means that Moyes keeps his job this summer then I'm against it!"

"Nagel 7:27 Yes this is true, to be fair. We did get value out of him."

"LT, yes, but that has nothing to do with whether the loan itself was a good idea or not really. There's been a few players that Moyes has hung on waiting for weeks for instead of moving on to other targets, eg Kostic 2 years ago. And we still haven't filled that LW spot. If at the end of the loan we want Phillips but he doesn't jump at the chance to join us then we should move on. Simple as that."

Nagel 7:27 Tue Jan 23 Lingard fucked us over the summer he left. Moyes also hung around him like a bad smell all summer trying to sign him. I really hope this isn't a repeat of that. At least we've got an option to buy (which realistically means nothing).
