"Free agency started last night and was pretty crazy some huge money being spent. Osweiler getting £18m a year for the Texans, leaving the Broncos without a QB, Giants have spent a fortune on good but not great players, Oliver Vernon has more guaranteed money than JJ Watt. lots more deals but cant be bothered to list them all."

"SHould be calling up the Browns and seeing if you can get a bounty for Williams, Browns Oline is killing any chance o them to have this magical season all the media were hyping them up for. In other news, always nice seeing Aaron Rodgers throw a game ending interception on the goal line :)"

"SB, a good example of their ineptness is this trent williams business. for a couple of months gruden had to field question after question ""When's Trent back?"". ""Any news on Trent?"" , ""Have you spoken to Trent"". every fucking press conference (they have up to five if six a week) dominated by the same shit, and him telling them (the press) over and over and over again that he had no idea when or if he's returning, and it's out of his hands anyway. he doesn't want to play for them (snyder/allen), so why are they denying themselves a couple of draft picks for next year because they're too stubborn to settle the situation?"

"Snyder does always come across very badly indeed. We've got a mini version of him in the Johnson brothers. They aren't as personally dis-likeable (politics aside), but are just completely out of touch and are only in it for their profile. They are also hell bent on appointing ""yes men"" (Rex Ryan was a notable exception - and they found him uncomfortable!). Hence, Gates got the nod above McCarthy when it was obvious the latter should have got the job. McCarthy wanted to have some of the GM's powers (not many of them, but enough to shape things his way) and the Johnsons feared a loss of control (£££). So we ended up with the bog-eyed twonk. Woody and co have to learn to be hands-off, but the chances of that happening at their age are very slim."

"you can't get things right if the owner/gm (which is the same thing at redskins park) are not on the same page as the head coach in regard to draft picks and coaching assistants, and to last at the franchise the pre-requisite is to be a yes-man to those two, which is why our last good coach (shanahan) fucked off. it's a bit like managers working under the current west ham board, it won't really matter who's manager/coach while you have those still running things. it's been clear gruden's had enough for a while, he isn't that great a coach but you can tell he's had enough but they (snyder/allen) have no idea what to do next. the logical thing is letting another young coach, kevin o'connell (current offensive coordinator) who's in the mould of mcvey to take over but knowing them they'll get it wrong again"

"Mind you, just checked and he's approaching 30 now - so perhaps it would be wise. You don't want to be lumbered with him on a huge salary at 32 etc."

"Is that a talent issue, though, or just poor coaching on a poor team? The danger is that you release him and he wanders off and plays well under a good coach and a solid team."

"no, he's been poor for a long time and would struggle to cover anne widdicombe now, i wish they'd released him in the summer. he can't play zone coverage, and the burst he had at carolina is long gone"

"Could get worse for the 'Skins, TM, if this talk about releasing Josh Norman next summer continues. I know he has shot his mouth off a few too many times, but he's still one of your best players. The pitfalls of following teams like ours: they are CONSTANTLY in rebuild mode, because they can't get the basic building blocks right. The Jets have been ""rebuilding"" pretty much every year since 1969! With the Skins, it's all the more surprising because back in the 1980s it was seen as a steady, sensible franchise that was always in the mix. Those days feel like a long time ago now, I'm sure. Gruden looks like he's about to turn to Haskell to try to save his job."

"It is difficult to see the Redskins winning a game, even with Miami and the Jets on the schedule. They're poor beyond belief. The longest rebuilding process in history In the last 10 years of MNF there 7 occasions where the home team is down by more 19-points at halftime, 4 of those occasions it has been the Redskins"

"I don't give a fuck about fairness, we're doing nothing for the next two to three years so he should be getting experience playing, not playing third fiddle to two hasbeens in mccoy & keenum. you can't have watched any of the games or watched gruden in press conferences if you think he's coaching for his job. he threw in the towel weeks ago"

"In fairness Mike, everything i've read has said Haskins isnt ready and he definitely didnt look ready from the small sample i saw in the preseason, and Gruden is probably coaching for his job this year so have to try and win games now (not that its working very well) Can do more damage than good sometimes to a young QB to just throw him in when he's not ready to play, would expect him in soon though once the Owner/Coach have accepted that the season is gone. Could also be a good move by Gruden if he brings haskins in later int he year for some meaningless gametime and he looks good it might somehow convince the owners to give him another year to develop the kid"

"southbankbornnbred 11:10 Wed Sep 25 It is a horrible injury. A friend of mine had the same thing as a result of a bike crash. He was on the cusp of having to have his lower leg amputated. When he completed rehab he was told to be very careful as the bones, though healed, were not as strong as they were and another break would almost certainly lead to amputation. That would be difficult thing for Smith to have to carry with him on the field. That's if the original break was as bad as it looked."

"lee, he has three years left but they have an option to let him go after next season for an $11m cap hit. ideally he'll be back to mentor haskins next season. that scenario will only happen though if snyder/allen employ a coach who wants to play haskins, as gruden made it clear he didn't want dwayne. money isn't a problem for snyder, so it's hard to work out what he's trying to achieve by holding on to a coach who refuses to use the number one pick, has zero respect for the team mvp from last season (peterson) and continues to employ a defensive co-coordinator who they tried to replace numerous times in the summer, and who's defence is leaking 30+ points per game"

"I can't see Smith coming back from that injury. If he does, it will be one of the most remarkable returns from injury. It's great to see him moving around again, but his movement must surely still be affected. Fair play to the man for trying to get back, though. One tough fucker for even trying - many would have called it quits during rehab."

"Yeah, the skins seem to be in meltdown, too. I watched a bit of the Chicago game - they looked down and out long before the end. Is Haskins going to make a difference? If I'm honest, I haven't seen much of him despite an excellent college career. At least the Jets have Darnold, for a short period (can see him going elsewhere in order to realise his huge potential), to save the odd game here and there when he gets fit again. Big risk that Gase, or replacing Gase with a third head coach quickly (which we WILL need to do) could now ruin Darnold's development. The Jets are fucking mental. Mike McCarthy, a superbowl winning coach in Green Bay who took that team to eight play-offs in 12 seasons, only wanted to coach one team afterwards: the Jets. His agent teed up the whole deal, and the fans wanted him. And the owners opted for Adam Gase, a bog-eyed failed Fins coach, instead."
