"That's just over 6 a day - that's not news, that was, then, business as usual and probably the same reason RTAs don't hit the main news unless there's multiple fatalities or a kid involved. I seem to recall the New York authorities actually doing something about the problem though, so a solution, if required, is possible."

"Mike, in 1990 there was something like 2,200 murders in New York alone, compared to 180 in London. Dreadful atrocities have gone on throughout History, it's nothing new."

"Even before 24 hour TV and the internet, instances such as this would have made the (BBC) 6'o'clock news wherever in the world they happened. Can't recall that many reports on incidents like this in the 60s, 70s, 80,s and (possibly 90s, but would not have been paying so much attentioon then). Anyone care to make a suggestion as to why such events have proliferated over the last 20 or so years?"

Looks like he was taken out by a head shot from a lone female police inspector. Saves the Australian tax payer some money. Much the better thing to do than simply disabling the assailant.

"fraser 12:31 Sat Apr 13 I would imagine that in the current climate, all media outlets are super sensitive about even speculating about the origin/motive of the attacker until they are REALLY sure about it. I'm sure they understand that they will be crucified if they get it wrong. *Possible anti-Assyrian/Babylonian comment there?*"

"Motive unclear, police not ruling out terrorism Police say no clear motive has emerged in relation to the attacker who has killed five people and injured several others including a baby. Assistant commissioner Anthony Cooke said the man had been in the centre, left, then came back, at which point he began stabbing people in the centre. No ideology or motive is clear. There’s nothing that we are aware of at the scene that would indicate any motive or any ideology. Asked by a reporter if police were ruling out terrorism, Cooke said: We’re not ruling anything out. https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/live/2024/apr/13/australia-news-live-major-police-incident-in-sydney-after-reports-of-multiple-stabbings#top-of-blog"
