First half we played well, the Newcastle game and last night have been much better than most the away performances this season. Fab made some great saves, but we also threatened and controlled the game first half.
Thought we gave away our dominance when he took Soler off, he was controlling the game and easily our best midfielder. Taking him off cos he was on a yellow (for a cynical foul he wouldnt make again having already been booked) was the complete wrong call for me. Then going 5 at the back, again strange.....just invited pressure.
Think the main thing for us to work on is passing the ball forward, we kept it well last night and knocked it about nice only to go backwards to Fab who hoofs it to no one as his kicking is shit and we lose the ball anyway. When we are in their half take a risk, play it forward.....take someone on.....better to lose it that way than Fab lumping it.
But overall a good point on the road, and nice to see the young lads get a shot. Anyone rate Fullkrug when he came on? ran about a bit but every time i've watched him he just reminds me of Haller.......doesnt suit the premier league or our style of play. Can't see him getting anywhere near 10 goals to be honest
What I would say about Fullkrug is he's getting one or two solid chances per game on target. Scored the last time in his 15 mins, the header last night a yard either way goes in. He knows how to attack the ball in the box so if we create chances he'll get his ten goals.
He also got his foot in a couple of times, held off the defenders....a couple of times played good balls through. Think he'll be ok....he's just not the all-action Antonio or Arnautovic type, or tricky type like Di Canio that we all love to see. He's a penalty box target man.
The reference to Haller is a good one...but I think Haller would have worked out too...but it's about expectations. Haller, Fullkrug....they're like a poor man's Harry Kane...drop in, link the play, get in the box and try and score. If the rest of the team (Bowen, Kudus, Paqueta, Soler, Emerson, AWB) can create penalty box chances, then Fullkrug will do just fine, and might even help us retain possession high up the field (not Antonio's strong suit). But he won't be charging around like a headless chicken, running channels, and taking defenders on. Even when pressing, he was looking to close down a passing lane and close....but that only works if the others are pressing with him.
Think he did alright and will be alright.

When your goalkeeper is MotM, then it's not really an even game.
And, dare I say it, we a bit hoof merchants at times.
But at the end of the day, it's a good result away against a good team in form.

Is it even a debate now that the team's attitude, attacking endeavour and willingness to keep the ball has improved greatly this season? Yes there are still problems to iron out, (passing back to Fab then him aimlessly punting upfield for a start).
But, people have short memories, some of the football Moyes served up in his last three seasons was truly soul destroying.
Lop probably isn't the answer long term but right now I still prefer him to Moyes by a country mile.
I enjoyed last night's game a lot. They ain't going to set the league alight but I agree that how they played last night was much easier on the eye than under Moyes. Think we need to wait until Sullivan carks it until things improve. Maybe assisted dying will catch his eye?

We convincingly matched a presently top six team in their own ground. Sad we dropped a nearly stolen 2 points. Scarles looked very composed and should definitely get more time as the season progresses. Thought it was an excellent performance all round. I would like to see Kudus do much better. Frustrates me that although he plays ok, I am sure he can do much much better.
Crazy to both criticise Loppy for not and then for playing the youth. I hope it was not a one off, but I think reason was he was short on defenders on the bench and likes to freshen things up as players tire. Lets see what happens when Emerson, Tobido and Cresswell are back.
We didn't come close to matching them nevermind convincing matching them. THEY BATTERED US and should have been out of sight by the time Flopetegui lucked into another late penalty.

I see the Lopites, are out in full force trying to convince us that things are improving ffs.
The luck evens out over the course of a season, I don’t recall us ever getting this many penalty decisions go our way like it has so far this season. The Man U penalty being the biggest bit of luck I can ever remember.
Perhaps JLo has some shit on someone high up in the FA but it won’t last.
Fact is we are all over the place and are way too easily overrun in the middle and at the back. How the fuck Bournemouth didn’t score in the first half is amazing, the Bournemouth forward missed an absolute sitter. One of the worst misses you will see all season.
Gotta respect a lucky point but fuck me we are gash!

Hahaha you’re absolutely mental. Sounds like you were desperate for us to lose last night.
Coincidentally, did you mention luck last season when we had 30% possession at Brighton & spurs & Arsenal & Burnley & Everton and they missed a tonne of chances??

Mav’s foul wasn’t the problem. They looked like they were going to score at that point and fouling someone that far out was probably a good thing to do. He didn’t get a yellow as it wasn’t terrible or obvious. Sort of a professional foul you see from van dyke etc.
the problem was Fab’s positioning and the wall. It’s that far out the wall wasn’t going to stop anything getting over and down again. All it did was make Fab basically tell their guy, “kick it to my right and it’s a goal”. Fab should have started in the middle and made the guy work. He didn’t even have to hit the corner of the goal to score. Any shot that landed in the right third of the goal would go in. I don’t even think it was a world class strike on reflection. Just poor goal keeping.

Done purely out of shame and desperation to keep his job, having been roasted in the media for being the worst PL manager for giving youth a chance so far this season. Plus the injuries and falling out with players is leaving him with very little choice.

A Draw was the fair result for both sides. Both had decent chances to score more than once, be it Bowen rattling the crossbar 1st half, Fullkrugs header 2nd hand half, Bournemouth hitting the post 1st half, Fabianski pulling off a worldie, we scored a penalty (it was), they scored from their free-kick.
Both Teams went at it hammer and tongs for 98 minutes and was impressed at the high quality of fast paced Football from the 2 Teams.
I was even impressed with the Ref allowing the game to flow and getting most decisions right which was also refreshing.
This like the Newcastle performance is close to what I hoped to see from us post-Moyes and is the blueprint I want to see more of in the future. Even if the result doesn't quite come off, I can still be pleased with the huge effort, entertaining performance and trying to win a game and not settling to just park the bus. We can actually pass the ball around comfortably and I never thought we'd get that to happen before the turn of the year.
And what's more, there's plenty more to come from this side the longer they play this way getting more familiar with what's demanded of them now.

I'll take that all things considered.
If anyone harboured any lingering thoughts of competing at the top end of the table we needed the win tonight, but in truth none of us really believed that was going to happen.
We're in for a mid table season, which is fine if we see good signs of progress.
As a stand alone result and performance away from home against a side flying at the moment I thought we did alright.
Highlights of the night was seeing Scarles and Casey...credit to the manager for that

I didnt watch the first half but by all accounts we had the better of it... I watched the second half as I was out on our clubs xmas do so saw us intermittently, but what i saw was a pretty even second half barre late on one 5 to 10 minute period where Bournemouth were all over us they are in form and are at home so was expected.. but didnt score. We then went up the other end got a penalty and scored... now last season you Moyes bummers wouldve creamed yourselves over the smash and grab had we held on.... but oh no Lopetegui's rubbish ...... ffs respect the point away from home that was a massive banana skin we've avoided lets move on.... its a work in progress.
Oh and we've all been crying out for him to play some youth and when he does and we drop 2 points everyone has a rant about it.... make your minds up!!!!

The player's were clearly fighting for the manager, as well as for the shirt tonight. Paqueta making a bee-line to.him straight after scoring the penalty reaffirmed that for me. A really encouraging signs to see and no one hid all game, only giving their all. That's all we ask.

1st half decent, 2nd half crap but somehow managed to snatch a draw from the jaws of victory. Some kids got on which is nice. Doesn't make sense to be angry about this match in my mind, unless that anger is aimed at mav the Greek. Brain dead defending cost us two points.
