Tv Box sets thread again - recommendation pls
"Just finished The Killing liked it a lot but not really the last season as much. Breaking Bad, Homeland done Was going to do Luther or The Wire next - can you tell me which one is best of the two?"
Re: Tv Box sets thread again - recommendation pls
"Manuel, yes the second one is more ridiculous but I enjoyed both to be fair. Yes it's awful but it's an enjoyable awful with none of the modern day box ticking, preaching statements or virtue signalling. Looking forward to the 3rd series."

"I really enjoyed Loudermilk and actually know Ron Livingston pretty well these days. His wife, Rosemarie De Witt plays the mother of my daughter in a film to be released on Disney+ later this year and I spent all of last week with Ron and his family at the Sundance Film Festival. He's a top top bloke and hoping Loudermilk gets picked up to crack on with the 4th season as the broadcaster who funded the first 3 seasons went bust but its popularity on Netflix recently has brought some other firms to the table with a view to filming the 4th season. The writers actually have it scripted out to 7 seasons in total so if it does get picked up there's plenty of scope that it could get a good run and another 4 seasons in total to come."

Fargo was very good and back to form. True Detective 4 is shite. Hopefully will get better but I doubt it.

Re: Tv Box sets thread again - recommendation pls
"Percy... the lads both Brits/commonwealth and the Yanks had horrendous casualty figures... in 1943 (when the series is set) the US 8th was going over the pond with no fighter escort and the average life expectancy was 11 missions... seeing as your tour of duty ended at 20 missions (IIRC) the likely hood is that you never got there.. it was only when the US got the P-51's as fighter escort that the figures turned in their favour. Bomber Command tours were much longer... 30 first then a small time off and then 20 for second etc... the Yanks found it hard to believe that Guy Gibson done over three tours with over 170 sorties... both day and night time. In all 125,000 British/Commonwealth served in Bomber command, 46% made the ultimate sacrifice... only 28% made it through unscathed... the rest were either POW's or killed in accidents. Where US 8th or Bomber Command for me they were the bravest of the brave getting up in those tin cans... Bless them all..."

Sold That's a good analysis I also had to smile at the bombing at night being easier. That always boils my piss with the yanks they always seem to think they won the war single handedly

Re: Tv Box sets thread again - recommendation pls
Joe C 10:11 Fri Jan 26 Band of Brothers is my all time best series ever... just pure perfection and historically spot on. Watched the first two of Masters and it's superbly done... I have read most of the books about the 8th AF and specifically about the bloody 100th (the bombing group the series is set around) so I am not expecting any historical bullshit licence (see Napoleon and SAS Rogue Heroes)... one thing I did raise and eyebrow about was the fisticuffs scene between the RAF Bomber command boys and the Yanks... especially taunting the yanks regarding it being safer at night... it wasn't... anyway apart from that an excellent first two episodes... the aerial scenes are something else...

"claypole 9:42 Fri Jan 26 If you put the original film aside, I found it quite entertaining for a London gangster yarn. The mistake they made was basing it on the film, where comparisons were bound to be made. If they hadn't done that the reviews would be 3 stars, rather than the 1 star it tends to be getting. But maybe I'm enjoying the so bad that it's good vibe."

Re: Tv Box sets thread again - recommendation pls
"Followed this thread for some while now and watched a few recoomendations. Some me and the missus have liked while others were complete rubbish. Each to their own. We don't binge watch just one series but have 6 or so both new and old just to give us a bit of variety. We're up to date and enjoyed both 'For All Mankind' (It's different), Reacher (easy watching), Yellowstone. Waiting for the next series for both. Completed 'Lawmen Bass Reeves' which was quite good and a golden oldie in 'The Musketeers (2014)'. Currently watching 'Scandal' (2012) as we missed this when it was aired years back.. Have all the epiosdes of 'The Pacific' (again missed when aired) waiting to be watched and we're waiting for all eipsodes of 'Masters of the Air' before starting on that."
Re: Tv Box sets thread again - recommendation pls
"Masters of the Air started on Apple TV today - been in development hell for a good while and HBO eventually dropped it, for Apple to then pick it up. Completes Band of Brothers and The Pacific, covering the three US military powers in WWII Had actually just finished watching BoB this last week, absolutely up there as the best show of all time"
Re: Tv Box sets thread again - recommendation pls
"Watched Loudermilk and thought it got better after series 1. Watched a couple of Griseldas and enjoying that. Has anyone watched the t.v show Sexy Beast? I assume its a spin off from the film, hope its nothing like that Town called Malice shit."

"Gave Reacher a go, bit of a slog but will finish season 1 as it's OK. I like the main character, but the plot etc is nothing new and just feels like something you have seen 100 times before. What happened to the great shows, instead of mediocre stuff like this?"
