"Free agency started last night and was pretty crazy some huge money being spent. Osweiler getting £18m a year for the Texans, leaving the Broncos without a QB, Giants have spent a fortune on good but not great players, Oliver Vernon has more guaranteed money than JJ Watt. lots more deals but cant be bothered to list them all."

Sternberger is the most talented tight end but he'll have to work on his blocking

"Pats have a boatload of picks so would love to see them trade up to get a new tight end, i dont watch any college football so only have reports to go on. From what i've read this lad hockinson is the closest thing to gronk that's come out of college since gronk did himself in terms of a proper 2 way tightend who blocks and catches"

What picks are you gentlemen hoping for your respective teams in the draft? Saints don't have much in the way of picks but I think they should trade the future and take one last Brees kick at the can. Hakeem Butler maybe?

"tony gonzalez, a glorified receiver? no, you're talking complete bollocks and he did more than enough blocking while also allowing very few sacks in the teams he played in. he also built those unbelievable stats at times playing with dogshit quarterbacks like huard & thigpen. only a patriots fan could take praise of one of their players as a challenge to denigrate other players"

"Don't think you'll ever have seen Gonzalez even come close to blocking like Gronk did though all the other tightends at the high end of the receiving standings are basically glorified wide receivers. In terms of Volume Gronk's stats don't compare to your Wittens, Gates or Gonzalez as they all played for so much longer and managed to stay healthy. but at his Peak Gronk was the most unstoppable weapon in the NFL and could block as well as most offensive tackles."

"not surprised Gronk retired but thought he may have waited another year to stop at the same time as Brady. he's probably the most effective TE I've seen and was perfect for Belichik's system. the only other one comparable was Gonzalez. shows how tough a game it is physically, that he'd had enough before he reached thirty"

Yeah would have loved beasely although all those guys mentioned do seem very similar to edelman From what i read beasely accepted less than a million per year more to go to buffalo of all places instead of coming to New England

he'll appreciate the chance and won't cost a lot. he lacks the speed of the players you mentioned but has some ability as a possession receiver

Beasley would have been a brilliant fit.

"Patriots signing a bunch of guys i've never really heard of but seem like good team guys that fit their system and they can coach up Seems like they tried to go after humphries, beasley and Tate and they all chose to play for bad teams for slightly more money"

"crystal he was an undrafted free agent with us who struggled for two years to get a chance, so was stuck in the practice squad. he finally got some games last season, I liked him. he's a good size (6ft 3), has very good hands but isn't overly quick. If anyone can improve him it's belichik and mcdaniels. like crowder, he's another good bloke"

"TM - cheers. I knew you'd be on top of that! He does look like a decent addition for us. We need some WR targets for Sam. Quincy, Robbie Anderson and now a slot guy: things are gradually shaping up. There's no stand-out receiver among them, but I'll take solid at this stage. It means we can focus on drafting an edge-rushing DL with a high pick. We probably need that, and good pass protection for Sam, more than anything. Jets gradually beginning to put together what looks like a roster - after years of having some of the weakest squads imaginable."

........and I've no doubt we'd have signed him again if not for the Smith injury

"SB, I thought he was going to be another santana moss after his first couple of seasons. very quick and intelligent slot receiver, but a few fumbles in his third year affected his confidence and injuries ruined his last year with us. best thing about him is his character, won't be a problem for the coach and if injury clear will be a great asset"

"I see the Jets have wasted no time splashing their $100m of extra cap room. Le'veon Bell is a big take - that's a lot of money they're paying. But, potentially, he's a big addition. And Mosley is a good inside linebacker. I'll be blunt, I don't know a huge amount about Crowder (maybe TM can let us know more about him), but he looks solid at WR. Kelechi Osemele is a decent inside lineman, too, although I think we might be over-paying for him. Not a huge risk - but probably paid a little too much. That spare cash was obviously burning a hole in Gase's pocket."

Case Keenum to the skins. That's better depth on the roster than we could expect

That's a serious move by the Browns. They are going all out for a 'win now' next few seasons on the back of Mayfield's excellent rookie year. They obviously feel the kid is the real deal and want big weapons around him. I don't blame them. But that's going to be one heck of an edgy dressing room!

The one that tickled me was Nick Foles going to the Jags. That contract extension Blake Bortles got looks spectacularly dumb now. Actually it was pretty silly at the time.
