"I can't see anyone would be against a move for Phillips. For me, even though we invested in CM in the summer, its still a position we need players. When Alvarez is out we have to play soucek and JWP just doesn't work and was on elf the main reasons we lost against BC. Soucek should be used as sub, we need to be able to rotate JWP. Having Phillips would bring a lot more flexibility into the most important area of pitch. It can mean we can use JWP as 10, Paqueta as 10 or even Kudus as 10 and the two DMs would be good enough to provide protection to our back 4. Would be great signing, proven English player. Wants to play. Only concern is injury record. Get it done and then get a forward who can play off left and we have lots of options."

We definitely need cover for Alvarez but Phillips will not want to be just cover as he can watch better football at Manchester City.

"Here Moyes waste some more money on expensive and unimaginative signings you hapless Scottish cսnt. Oh yes Kalvin Phillips the man that plays in the position we already have a fucking brilliant player, A player who has barely kicked a ball in 18 months, and is perma crocked. What a great idea. SACK THIS cսnt"

If Phillips does sign and he can play at his best he's better than both JWP and Soucek...

LJC I've just barely seen him play a game in years it feels. I just hope it isn't a big disappointment. (I hear we maybe loaning him). Just feels like we are talking about a player who hasn't for whatever reason played to the level of his reputation for a very long time. Hope it goes well.

"Broja at Southampton looked decent, certainly a good Antonio replacement. Strong, quick, excellent work rate - one main difference was that he seemed to shoot from distance more often than benrahma, which isn’t a good thing, but that may have been partly frustration at the crap he had around him I’ve only seen glimpses at Chelsea but he doesn’t seem the same any more since the injury. They’re asking silly money based on potential from 3 years ago when he’s missed a season of development and now has had the chelsea virus of destroying players given to him too"

"Was any player playing for Bielsa really top level? Isn't the whole thing with Bielsa is that he makes everyone look better than they normally are because of his system and the extra work rate. Pep doesnt seem convinced with Philips even fully fit and when both DuBruyne and Rodri were out. That says a lot. And his England form, is well, England form is another thing compared to league games. Just sceptical. Same with Broja as well, is he really that good? Seems like we go after players just because they are at the big teams rather than whether they are actually worth it?"

With the charges against City coming up I don’t think anyone will be looking to join them just yet

80m the release clause for Paqueta isn’t it? No doubt city will be back in for him.

Kudus scored twice last night one an absolute worldly playing as a ten apparently... That's where he should play for us.. What a player he is.

City don't need to oil the Paqueta deal by offering us players the other way. He has a release clause they just need to meet it.. Phillips doesn't want to come south anyway.

SSN now saying Barca Atletico Madrid and Juve also interested in Philipps. Crazy the interest in a fringe player at a successful club. Hes barely played any football since going Man City.

I can see Phillips coming in on a loan to buy deal this month as part of the Paqueta deal in the summer. Not sure the price but it should leave us with enough to find a couple more players.

"Manuel, Where did I say it had to be spent on a single player? I was thinking 2-3 players just like we did with the Rice money. So who would you buy?"

"Nuts - What a silly question mate, there are untold top players out there today, besides if he did go for that amount we would likely buy 2 or 3 players with it same as we did with Rice, we're not really a club who is going to drop 80 up on one player are we, anyone who is worth that probably wouldn't even want to join a club who very likely won't even have European football to offer them."

"Philips would give us a definite improvement on Soucek... a ball winning midfielder who can actually pass the ball, who's first touch is good the only drawback is his aerial prowess... he would also mean that Paqueta could own the 10 position currently taken by Soucek.. It gives us a better chance in possession while still being defensive if Moyes choses to use the low block, but Philips ability to win the ball and turn defence into attack is a massive improvement compared to Tommy."

"Hmmm… Soucek scores on average how many goals each season? Will he score another 5 or more? Over his time at the club maybe 7 a season on average? Will us having the ball more mean we concede less annd also be able to create more from open play ? Btw imo Phillips does actually break forward from midfield and can create openings. He did for England when Rice sat deep at times. More importantlly, we should not be overrun half as much in midfield because playing Soucek does imho cause that as it’s often like being a player short he is so slow and limited with controlling and passing a football. No absolute guarantees we score more by having more of the ball of course but over 20 games it should help and perhaps even improve the style of play. I suppose not playing Soucek does perhaps mean us being less able to deploy the low block as his aerial ability in defence could be missed? So overall I am of the opinion that Phillips at his best will more than compensate for the loss of the painfully slow and technically limited footballer ( not as a person or team man that is never in doubt ) that Soucek is?"
