Empathy is NOT being able to feel what someone else feels, it's being able to understand how they might feel.

For instance, I don't KNOW what someone feels if they have lost a child to cancer, but I can understand how they MIGHT feel. And if they tell me how they do feel I can attempt to put myself in their position. Some people are better at this than others.

It's completely different to sympathy.

As it happens, I make Kirk wrong on this one, but he was mistaken or ignorant of the correct definition, as many are in this case (not least most of the posters on here), not in any way evil.

I would bet if I was beating the shit out of someone they would likely feel pain but just because I think that would be true doesnt make it so.
My feelings would be based upon me not them. I would know me not them.

I can be sympathetic or altruistic but I cant know how they feel. Only they might know that.

Well. How would I know how someone else feels? By the way they whine?

You know the answer, of course.  You have spoken of your interactions with humans a great deal on here over the years.

We can't 100 percent know but it's the trying that makes people function in society.

More critically, what if someone feels sad but doesnt express it?

Anyway, who cares?

We will only ever know what is going on in our own minds and even then most of us dont do a great job of that.

I think the real way to say is "try to be empathetic" ie. Making the attempt to not be wholly trapped in our own feelings.and viewpoint.  Most people try, just some more than others.

The harder part is not judging others especially beyond their actions, which also follows from point you are making (which I agree with).

Further reports

"His family has collectively told investigators that he subscribed to left-wing ideology,"  Kash Patel said.

Ammunition found with the suspected rifle was also reportedly engraved with antifascist writings.

They come hand in hand surely, an unhealthy amount of our population now spend time winding up strangers on the internet as their main hobby, not the sign of a stable mind.
Yep. Guaranteed that in his pretty little head, his keep-net is brimming with far-right fishies.

Faux

Once again answer my points

1) Is it not possible for a somone in the same family to have a different view to the rest of his family?

2) what is the FULL empathy quote, this time dont forget the but about sympathy?  Post it here...  actually read it

I doubt you'll respond to either point properly

My narrative?
Didn’t know this MAGA clown from a bar of soap until the other more extreme right winger shot him
Dreadful business
Perhaps the country could at some point revert to a sensible government for all the people and stop all the killing by restricting the ownership of firearms
Crucial as the country seems infested with violent morons
Many of them in positions of power
Very sad as there are many great things about America

The violence that ensued seems to have only been witnessed by the Metropolitan Police.

Odd.

I've only seen little bits of clashes online where a tiny amount of people were involved, but considering the ridiculously huge numbers that attended it wasn't at all representative of the vast majority of peaceful protesters who were in attendance like myself.

We were roughly in the middle of the March to begin with from 11am and ended up quite close to the Main Stand of Speakers about 20 rows deep and at no point did I see any trouble whatsoever heading back on the route the way we came. Not 1 thing which even surprised me when I considered how many turned up.

Shame on those that did kick off where the Old Bill stupidly (intentionally?) ushered them towards an Antifa flash point where both sides were involved in nonsense. It could have been avoided if the Met cordoned it off properly, which I'm sure was always there intention..

Why haven't you finished the quote?

"Sympathy is a better word, because empathy means you are actually feeling what another person felt, and no one can feel what another person feels"
Because I doubt whoever he lifted it from continued with the quote.

Sven's become a VERY useful idiot for Antifa and those similar.  Poor bloke is too stupid to even realise it.

Exactly. He keeps stating it is easy to find quotes via his podcasts and debates, but he clearly never uses them as  the source.
