Not following the championship but must be some HG prospects there that can improve us?
I see Palace signed that winger from Millwall. Eze has worked out brilliantly for them as did Bowen for us.
not sure why we don’t look there anymore? Last one being Downes and I thought he was a tidy player. Better than that Argentinian tortoise we currently have anyway.
To be fair, it's becoming hard to even find that much value in the championship now (at least compared to a guarantee of the player performing in the prermier league as well) Gone are the days of 5 million bargains. Seems like teams are paying 25-30 mill for young champ prospects now.
"Interesting" tit-bit on this I read was that Newman in conjunction with the academy wanted to go about signing the best 15 to 18 year olds form the Category 2 and 3 acadamies to bring into our academy. Would work out about 250k per signing.
They did the ground work, presented the list...and Sullivan threw it out because he 'couldn't see the point or value in it'.
The man at the top is at best incompetent, and at worst deliberatly sabotaging in favour of himself. While he's there, any discussion about our incomings which is grounded in sense or logic is largely pointless.
The energy woul dbe better put into a campaign to oust Sullivan.
Best start for me would be establishing some kind of chant to be used home and away that targets the guy and makes him start to feel very uncomfortable. Sounds weak, but he'd hate it.
Wow- what a colossal cսnt he is if that's true. What a fucking idiot. No wonder he's spreading his tentacles about the LG deal. How on earth can anyone not a total idiot see that that is a really smart low cost strategy that could pay huge dividends in 5 year's time. Trouble is I don't think he's able to look past the immediate future and next 18 months. It's clear from this news if true, the hurry to write off LG and the constant purchasing of 25+ year old players at a premium price.
If he really thinks the best way to do business is to only look at 'established' players in their mid 20s who already cost a bomb, along with his silly little punts that never amount to a fucking thing then he's so far behind the times he's living in a cave. It's clear all the value is in players 3-5 years younger and from a wider net.

I saw some merits in Downes, and I liked him, but he is a central part of the team on track to be the worst in Premier League history if they don’t manage to double their points tally between now and May.

So as most will know I've been staunchly in the 'give Guilherme a chance and time' camp since his arrival, as well as the 'Steidten isn't the devil' camp.
However...having trawled the KUMB January transfer thread for any interesting info amongst all the dribbling shite, one of their two meaningful ITKs (DDH) has dropped in in a couple of places that the Guilherme deal is comsidered very suspect beyond footballing reasons, and that Steidten has been investigated for some of his deals with the Guilherme deal throwing up some red flags that aren't football related.
Sounds like the club want Guilherme off the books for more than just footballing reasons, and that Steidten's deals made are potentially suspect.
Watch this space I guess.
That DDH is a colossal cսnt
A know nothing colossal cսnt, or just a colossal cսnt?
He knows some stuff probably but has it in for Steidten he lauded his appointment but then when he went against his hero Moyes... Just an opinion from reading it though..

As Mike says, almost impossible to progress with am owner like Sullivan. Good recruitment is largely in spite of Sullivan and his agents. Its a “crap shoot”. Now and then the agent cronies get some decent players in like Summerville and AWB although there is an argument that Walker Peters was a better fit as a wing back. AWB is an asset as it turns out but arrived because Sullivan wanted the cheaper option thru an agent that charges less agent fees than the player that actually might fit the coaches system better.
This non alignment to an over arching strategy and vision will undermine recruitment more times than not.
Amateur, sub optimal, out dated, self indulgent, self interest, ego satisifying are Sullivan’s drivers for recruitment.
Nothing will ever improve with Sullivan.

When you invest poorly in the first place then it's a constant cycle of getting stuck with players who are ageing, not performing, not good enough.
Mateta cost palace less than 15m, Wissa cost brentford 8.5m, there are players out there but we don't seem to be scouting them. Our recruitment hasn't been good enough for a long time now.
This. I keep looking at decent mid priced players brought in by other clubs that seem 'less attractive' than west ham. Maybe i am deluded about our place in the world, are we seen as a shit club? Or the recruitment is shocking compared to fulham/palace/brighton/bournemouth etc
i looked at our squad yesterday and crossed out 12 players that need to be gone asap or who might want to go . That was being generous and keeping a few unpopulars like mavro etc and not selling kudus and or paq. So a wholesale change in personnel is needed. The last club to attempt this in one season was Forest when they shifted lingard etc, and they looked in trouble for a while but obvs its paid off this season. Are we able to do the same. It would take a massive shift in how and who does our business. I like potter but feel a bit low today that we wont be able to get the players we need in.
Personally I think Moyes built a team that needs amazing players to make it work. Whereas Brighton, Bournemouth, Fulham etc... can shop from a more modest set of players because it's far easier to integrate them in their systems. Their systems are universal footballing systems that most players grow up learning how to play in and can slot in relatively well.
West Ham over the last 4yrs have built a unique counter attacking system that needs a specific type of player to work. Thats why Moyes was so picky about bringing players in. I think he thought say, Alvarez (City's and now Atleti's) maybe good but will he do what Antonio does? Probably not, so he just didnt go for it. His brand of football is hard to recruit for.
Thats why the squad and midfield especially is full of slow expensive defensive midfielders. Thats why he never brought any youth in because our youth setup has nothing to do with this defensive counter attacking thing. And thats why even after spending so much money, our squad is so crap.
We need this current coach to bring us back to the normal football world to make the club sustainable.
But some fans are addicted to our European exploits and won't accept that we may not get that level for a while if we want to change things radically.

Toms, it will always be a problem when our owner likes dealing with a certain group of agents. It's a clear conflict of interest, but he continues to do it. It's also a problem (and nothing to with Potter) employing sub standard managers when you're paying out £40-50m on talent, as these useless fucking managers devalue most of the talent as soon as they walk through the door (Rice being a rare example of not being affected by this)
When this is how the club are doing business then you're on a hiding to nothing. I miss the days of a manager picking players he wants to sign because he either sees potential or just the fact that a player can do a job in that position.

Like the look of that Bournemouth left back. Looked decent every time i've seen him but sad to say why would he leave Bournemouth to come to West Ham right now!
We should have courted and scouted him when we played 2 legs against AZ and all the pre-tie talk was about this young left back of theirs.
Woulda shoulda. Not the way Sullivan and Moyes roll. Not "Premier League Proven" dontcha know.

I think we should get Latte Lath. Apparently a £16m fee has been agreed with a MLS team. We should be all over that. Admittedly, my opinion is based on his name, wiki and a six minute YouTube clip.
