NFL (since 2016)

"Free agency started last night and was pretty crazy some huge money being spent. Osweiler getting £18m a year for the Texans, leaving the Broncos without a QB, Giants have spent a fortune on good but not great players, Oliver Vernon has more guaranteed money than JJ Watt. lots more deals but cant be bothered to list them all."

i think you should go for mcdaniels from the pats. he'd be good for darnold and would develop much quicker under that type of head coach

"TM - yep, classic Jets over-payment. Should have been on about a fifth less than that. He was um-ing and ah-ing about retiring, and the decision-makers didn't know who they'd be drafting, so they threw one-year cash at him. The 'good' thing is we had huge cap room, and will do again next season - when he and other single-year deals will walk. So we overspent but could afford to. I'd still prefer to have seen them use a few million of it to nail down a proper WR target for Darnold and/or some decent O-liners to help make sure our QB doesn't get killed!"

"southbank, is it true that you're paying mccown $10m on a one year deal? seems like you have bigger problems than bowles if the gm is signing off deals like that"

"Jets lost their fifth straight game in a row, to the Patsies - despite not having Darnold and still competing quite well under McCown. Probably the ""best"" thing about the loss, from the perspective of bored and irate Jets fans, was Todd Bowles' stupid decision which cost his own side a touchdown and swung the game towards the Patsies. Leading, Bowles and the Jets are offered a penalty that would have made the Patsies 3rd and 14 if accepted - but 4th and 2, and a likely punt by New England, if Bowles declined the penalty. Every decent coach worth their salt waives the penalty knowing the opposition will punt. What does the fucking idiot do? He takes the penalty. Brady steps up at 3rd and 14 and throws a long touchdown! That decision probably cost Bowles his job - not that he had much chance of keeping it. The team has now lost five on the spin, is 3-8, has lost its rookie QB (who is talented despite Bowles' poor use of him all season), will almost certainly have another losing season, and will miss the play-offs for the eighth year in a row. He's out. Probably when the season ends. But thank feck the Bowles era is now almost certainly over. ig decision coming up on who replaces him, though. Personally, I think that the Jets have to go against their tradition and opt for an offensive coach as their next head coach. You have to go back to the utterly abysmal (more so than Bowles) Rich Kotite for the last offensive HC for the Jets - in the mid-1990s. Bowles is a dignified man and very nice man. But utterly inept as a head coach."

"you have the better team, shut down elliott and they become very one dimensional. i agree about thomas, the only receivers close to him for me are hill, brown and thielen. i think the falcons was a tougher test than the eagles"

"Takashi Miike 5:09 Fri Nov 23 I picked up Prescott in my fantasy team and had Amari Cooper before the trade (it's been a bad year), so I have been following them a bit. Thomas is the best receiver I have seen with Brees (with respect to Colston) and it is starting to look like some of the young guys are bringing some help, so I think they can still put some points on the board. Even if you can stop the two-headed run game. On the other side I love Cam Jordan, and Sheldon Rankins in the middle has impressed me this year so I think they will do a job with Elliot."

"ioc, we've played dallas twice and they're hard to run the ball against so brees will have to shine. the linebacker they drafted, vander esch, is going to be a star"

"Be interesting to see what the Saints are really made of, they have some tougher games down the stretch playing the Steelers and Panthers twice. Seems like the only real test they've had so far is the Rams which they obviously did very well in."

Saints offence was a slightly slower last night but the defence did the bend-not-break/big turnover thing they did in 2009. Maybe starting to believe a bit. Winning out and home field advantage through would be huge. As cold weather has never been their friend.
