​​​​​​In the past he's favoured a 3-4-3 formation...hard to see how we can do that currently with only 3 senior CBs, one of whom is injured. He's also played wingers (Solly March as an example) in the wing back roles.

Typically when a 3-4-3 gets announced on a match day the manager is immediately described as being too negative, too cautious etc. I guess it depends on the composition of the 4.

He's given young players chances...hopefully that continues at West Ham.

I reckon the worlds nicest, most badly treated manager - lopetegui - leaked it himself to get a bigger payoff and buy Sandbanks off the redknapps.  Potter will be an improvement as he speaks english. Maybe he didn't take a job in the summer as he was still on the Chelsea payroll? Will just steady things, put his arm around paq, kudus and jean clair and maybe bring in a couple of loans? Ferguson?. If by some miracle we beat Villa and don't get Liverpool away next round, we might go on a cheeky cup run. But FFS how much longer is this taking. Only at west ham.

Brady and Steidten haven't jumped the gun with trying to drive the narrative of getting Potter in with all their Media tidbits being released have they? 

I say that because yesterday morning Sullivan was at the Training Ground talking to Lopetegui and after it the status quo was kept with Lopetegui still in post taking Training (as he still is). I wonder if Sullivan has got the hump with it all and decides to pull the plug after all the media circus fall-out what with an important FA Cup fixture on Friday on the telly soon arriving? Someone has to take a Pre Match Press Conference tomorrow latest..

It's right to sack Lopetegui (unfortunately, because he shouldn't have got the job in the first place). But he has acted with dignity when all of this shite has been leaked. He should at least be allowed to leave in a dignified manner. The mistake of appointing him was the board's, not his.

Potter worked with Dunk for a long time at Brighton. He’s not the quickest, I’m hoping that Potter can do the same with Kilman and that he doesn’t turn into another expensive signing that we lose lots of money on.

The only way to make the Kilman transfer work now is to put a lot of pace around him - in all three other defensive positions (we're fine with AWB and OK with Emerson) and also ahead of him in central midfield (currently a big problem).

Kilman reads the game well and has decent positional sense, and he's a warrior. But he's painfully slow for the modern Premier League. He regularly gets burned over ten yards. He'll need others to be the legs around him.

It's not the player's fault, but spending £40m on him was fucking insane. If you could summarise Lope in one move, that would be it.

The biggest frustration in all of this is that either Potter, Carrick or Terzic could have got the job in the summer when it was blindingly obvious to anybody who knows football that Lopetegui was a bad fit for us. Let's assume it might have been Potter: he'd at least have been able to buy the players he wanted when we had a nice chequebook.

No Kilman for £40m. No Rodriguez etc. Some harder-working legs in midfield.

Now, with the "right" sort of manager in place, he'll spend the rest of 24/25 unpicking the mess created in just six months.

We all say it, I know, but it's just so typical of West Ham under these owners. This season has basically become a write-off.

A decent appointment, and a better fit for this club than Lopetegui.

Personally, I would have preferred either Carrick or Terzic as realistic targets. But I'm not unhappy with Potter. Hope the fans get behind this fella and that he tears it up.

As somebody said down the thread, at least we - and the players - will actually understand what he's talking about while he explains why we shipped four more goals! 

On another note, Lopetegui has dealt with the farcical handling of his departure with a huge amount of dignity thus far. That speaks well of him (excuse the pun) and I hope he goes back to Spain and lands a decent role. He was always a strange choice for this club.

There is one area where we will see an enormous improvement right from the first match in charge. Whatever the scoreline on Friday those watching on TV will come away saying, hand on heart, for the first time in over six months they understood what the manager was saying in his interview.

Other than that, I am expecting more of the same. Bottom half finish. Just hoping I am wrong about that part.

Let's hope he's learned from his Chelsea tenure, where his principal failing was his commitment to possession football, while not scoring because he didn't play his main striker (Aubameyang) and couldn't stop the defence letting in soft goals. 

It's all very well dominating between the boxes, but games are won on how well you exploit situations in both boxes. 

His Chelsea tenure sounds a bit Pottetegui, so at least there's continuity there and he can build on what JL has done

And I want to be the first to say that when we are lifting the champions league trophy in 2027 that I told everyone that Potter was a great fit for us and that Tomas Soucek was the inspirational captain that we needed and putting him up front was a Potter master stroke.
