NFL (since 2016)
"Free agency started last night and was pretty crazy some huge money being spent. Osweiler getting £18m a year for the Texans, leaving the Broncos without a QB, Giants have spent a fortune on good but not great players, Oliver Vernon has more guaranteed money than JJ Watt. lots more deals but cant be bothered to list them all."

Re: 2016 NFL Season
"I totally agree with the Lombardi (?) quote.* These end zone dances and routines are horrendous. Also, you look really stupid when your team loses and all you have to boast about is a tightly choreographed mock-up of the Thriller video involving 300lb zombies. Nah. 'When you get into the end zone, act like you've been there before'. Damn right. * Note: I think it's Lombardi. The origins of the quote are often disputed. Many coaches seem to have used it down the years."

"Proper player, Butkus. Relentless and fearsome. That's how you want your linebackers to be. He'd clothes-line his gran if it won his team the ball back."

Re: 2016 NFL Season
"This thing with entire defences running into the end zone and doing a group pose for the camera is bloody annoying, seems like evry single defence does it every time they get a turnover now"
Re: 2016 NFL Season
"Fucking outrageous TD celebrations they're doing now, did anyone see the Vikings limbo one? They need Michail Antonio to sort their celebrations out"

"Takashi Miike 2:17 Mon Nov 26 Re: 2016 NFL Season cough, the understanding between cousns and thielen is special. improve the running game and you will contend in the next few years Can we have Peterson back :-)"
Re: 2016 NFL Season
"As much as I dislike the Seahawks, I always take pleasure in seeing Newton lose. I don't mind some arrogance, but his is to a degree that it must affect some of his on field decisions. Don't see the quality QB's doing any of the nonsense that he does, as they're too busy worrying about winning games."

"Hawks' late late win at Panthers - great decision-making and game management from Russell Wilson. Panthers really should have been maybe two scores ahead. Hawks probably not going to go much further this season, but that was a hell of a finish in a tough away fixture."

"I also think it has a lot to do with the fact that a lot of these guys come from bad upbringings and bad neighbourhoods and then get raised up and treated as Kings based purely on their athletic abilities even from High school age, they're then offered free rides through colleges and get whatever they want, not sure it really helps them get ready for the ""real world"" where people may actually say no to them."

Grumpster 10:25 Mon Nov 26 'Serious amount of lunatics play in the NFL and it would seem that quite a few of them love hitting women!' I suspect that a large proportion of those lunatics are not normally lunatics but are 'roided out of their heads. Not that that is an excuse.

Re: 2016 NFL Season
"CF - you;re right, the penalty incident would most likely have led to a field goal, not a punt. For some reason I thought it would leave the Patsies with a 52 yarder, but it would have been a 42-yard kick. Mind you, Bowles can't even get his own performance stats right - he seems a bit delusional. He told reporters after the game that he took the decision to waive the penalty because 'we have a good record on 3rd and 12 and longer"". Except we don't. The Jets rank 28th in the NFL on 3rd and 12 and longer. But I guess that's what must pass for 'good' in Todd Bowles world. Inept."

"Will probably end up on the Cowboys, Jerry Jones seems to not give a shit about players with dodgy backgrounds like Greg Hardy. Probably because he has unquestioned power there, still think it's a terrible way of doing it having the owner be the GM"

Re: 2016 NFL Season
"TM - yeah, Carmichael is a name that is getting mentioned a lot by Jets fans who follow the game closely. Not sure how the hierarchy feel about him, but he's served a good amount of time under Payton (a top, top coach) and it seems to have rubbed off on him. Also not sure what the Saints' appetite would be to let him go, but for the HC job he might be tempted. He's not a bad call, mate. Crystal - yes, you hit the nail on the head: Bowles seems to have learnt nothing about the teams he's up against, and the incredible quarterback who has dominated the division for well over a decade. It's not like this little-known Brady guy has a track record or anything! It was a poor call for precisely the reason you mentioned - he neglected to consider that it was Brady (or, at best, a field goal - most likely a punt). I like Bowles as a person - he's a very dignified guy in a sport that lost much of its dignity some time ago. But he wilts under pressure and has a long track record of not thinking clearly in those situations. Yesterday, it cost his team the lead, and the momentum in the game, and he does it very regularly. He has to go. He's a good defensive mind, and he should stick to a DC's role. He has almost nothing to offer offensively."
Re: 2016 NFL Season
"Most decimated squad through injury in football and now also having to release a player after his 5th arrest in the past year. Serious amount of lunatics play in the NFL and it would seem that quite a few of them love hitting women! Shame, was an excellent prospect Foster, but clearly another massive cսnt."

Re: 2016 NFL Season
"Southbank - yeah it was a bad decision to accept the penalty but I can also see what he was thinking, I think the pats probably go for it on 4th & 2 or I think it was in field goal range. So he's thinking they probably have more chance of stopping them gaining 14 yards and getting it close enough t maybe go for it on 4th down or even keeping them out of field goal range. Might be a good idea against a lesser QB, but you don't give Brady extra downs to work with"

Re: 2016 NFL Season
"I like David Shaw at Stanford. He plays a pro-style offense in a college game that doesn't really play that way any longer. And he's extremely bright - not surprising, considering where he coaches and the kind of players he has to deal with. But he'd be a big risk. And I'll admit it's a risk that could backfire. Arians would be great - but he won't coach the Jets (lifestyle-wise he's not a New York kinda' guy) and has said he'll only come out of retirement to coach the Browns. the good thing is, however it is, is going to have a high pick in the first round and beyond in the next draft!"
