General Election - July 2024
This appears to be the rumour on Sky. An easy win for Starmer and some big names losing their seats. The Country needs a change but is it going to get one? The thought of seeing that annoying Beth Rigby for 6 weeks though is a horrifying thought.

Re: General Election - July 2024
"""Farage is the new leader of Reform UK. Good news as Tice was a useless party leader."" Tice just doesn't have it. Farage had to come back for this. Not that I am Farage fan either, his constant ""I promise you I am right"" schtick is just stupid. But he can pummel the Tory vote so a proper, viable nationalist party can emerge from its ashes. (cue you-know-who who has been clicking refresh on this thread waiting for a comment like this to make his witty reply to and is now rubbing his palms on his thighs in readiness to do just that)"

Re: General Election - July 2024
"I'm not sure Brexit was an ""Enough is enough"" response, I think it was more of enough people saying ""We've worked out what you're doing"" type of response. Those with power and authority, of course, refuse(d) to take that on board and change direction - they still do what the fuck they want, and it will be more of the same whoever forms the next government... ...and you fuckers who refuse to vote for anyone but ""your"" party are part of the problem, and certainly not a part of the solution, however distasteful, unpalatable or unacceptable you may find that."

"Surf Your argument is that its lefties who've filled up all the important jobs and are sabotaging everything. I'm not necessarily disagreeing, what I am saying is that if the Tories have watched their enemies worm their way into positions of power and done nothing about it, that is on them, its still them responsible. When even ""hard left"" Labour are slagging the Tories for being so weak on immigration, what the heck is going on?!"

Re: General Election - July 2024
"MiM I see. So you think it's right wing people in the civil service and judiciary who are doing this? Because there are actually already laws and regulations in place that should mean this doesn't happen. Because if that isn't what you think, you need to say, 'Yes. And the Tories have done nothing to stop it.' Not, 'No, etc' And that's the problem. In the upcoming election we have a choice between the quite hard left in the person of Labour, the hard left in the persons of the SDP and Greens, the hard left in the persons of the three nationalist parties or the soft as shit left in the person of the Tories. Try not to let your desire to be argumentative get in the way of clear thinking."

The vat majority of Tories and Labour are LIBERALS. They live and breathe freedoms for all and fuck those who are negatively effected. Poorer people like to go to richer places as its a ladder. Its an instant no work rise up. Brits do this going to all kinds of places.

Re: General Election - July 2024
"Nutsin wrote... ""Of course immigration is a top issue, the only reason no-one talks about it openly is because they are afraid. The left will continue to push too far until ultimately enough people say enough is enough."" Brexit vote was 'enough is enough'. The issue is more complex. Our political class have no allegiance to the idea of nation state. They know talking tough on immigration will win votes but they have no intention of doing anything about it. Also, immigration is a problem down stream of fertility crisis. All Western countries have a welfare state and low fertility rates creating an aging population. Politicians know you can't have low immigration and a welfare state. So they need to get elected by either selling the idea of high immigration or selling the idea of dismantling the welfare state. So they go for the former and lie about it."

Re: General Election - July 2024
"Starmer has said LEGAL immigration is too high & he wants to cut it Understand he has an alternative plan to the Tories who have had no effect on BOATS as regards illegals. Part of the reason for July 4 is the summer armada of boats will only be starting & the flights to Rwanda won’t have gone shit shaped yet Could be worse, could have a convicted criminal running"

Re: General Election - July 2024
"There was someone on here saying immigration wouldnt effect this election but housing costs, doctors surgeries, hospitals, schools, transport and all kinds of other stuff is directly impacted by it. I was chatting with a B&B manager in Ross on Wye about this stuff. For them the immigrants are wealthy Londoners buying up all the housing, pushing costs up and putting pressure on everything. The Londoners houses will often be bought by wealthy immigrants. If you add > 500,009 year on year and dont build new homes what do you expect? It remains a top issue."
Re: General Election - July 2024
"""No the problem is the Tories allowed that to happen and done fuck all to reverse it."" For the year ended June 2023,1.2 million immigrants were legally processed (and nearly 500k left the country, for a net total of 768,000 in). I assume not all legal applications are accepted. So the civil service processed at least 1.2 million applications. Within that number are 968,000 non EU immigrants. There were 368,000 non EU immigrants in 2019. Would seem like, something has been done about it."

Re: General Election - July 2024
"Fifth Column 1:29 Sun Jun 2 ' it should take 6 months max to assess applications but it's taking 2 or 3 years or more in some cases because the civil service has been slashed' It would take one bloke about a week to say, 'no, you lot fuck off' to all of them. It's not 'funding'. The problem is the left have infiltrated the civil service and judiciary and allow applications on almost any pretext."

Fifth Column 1:29 Sun Jun 2 If there is one single thing you learn in adult life its that throwing money and resources at something does *NOT* automatically make that thing run more efficiently.
