Woke watch
"There is a very good section on GB news where the ludicrous idiocies of Wokeness are looked at I thought we would should have one for WHO. I'll start with Baptiste on BBC: In Hungary,an ambassador's family are kidnapped by Islamic terrorists and carry out atrocities. At the end of the last episode Baptiste finds out that it is a false flag operation and conveniently, the real culprits are white supremacists who want to stop all immigration. Coronation Street ITV a gay black footballer is stopped by the police, because he is driving an expensive car. He is pushed to the ground during an altercation, and damages his leg threatening his career. Could have been written by Dawn Butler or a BLM activist."

As a matter of FACT 'gender identity' IS a social construct. The problem is the entire concept is a load of bollocks.

Goose,
Whilst your final paragraph is almost certainly correct, that Nana fellow probably does have a point.
40 years on from the immediate crisis, the whole Band Aid thing gets close to the racism of sustained low expectations.

I've been Googling the "news" on transgender ops in the UK as reported by the Daily Mail.
Oh dear - do you seriously read this out of choice of entertainment?

Re: Woke watch
Ed Sheeran has said he wishes his vocals weren't used in the latest band aid song.“My approval wasn’t sought on this new Band Aid 40 release,"
Sheeran said. "Had I had the choice I would have respectfully declined the use of my vocals."He continued: “A decade on and my understanding of the narrative associated with this has changed, eloquently explained by @fuseodg.
"rapper" Fuse ODG turned down band aid previously because:
"I refused to participate in Band Aid because I recognised the harm initiatives like it inflict on Africa," he wrote."While they may generate sympathy and donations, they perpetuate damaging stereotypes that stifle Africa's economic growth, tourism, and investment, ultimately costing the continent trillions and destroying its dignity, pride and identity."
Speaking to BBC Radio 1's Newsbeat, the musician said that Do They Know It's Christmas perpetuates the idea that Africa is plagued by "famine and poverty", which is "not the truth".When he first saw the Band Aid videos as a child, he said, the images were "so negative that I wanted to disassociate myself from being African because there was no sense of pride in it."
The musician, whose real name is Nana Richard Abiona, added that he'd asked Bob Geldof to consider those concerns in 2014."All I said to him was, there's a way to do things without destroying our collective pride. There's a way to do things without it costing us in tourism, in investment, you know?"We could make it more like a partnership - solidarity instead of charity."
ungrateful cunts.

Re: Woke watch
That’s right, there is no science to back up a gendered soul or brain (any more than there is to support gender being a mere lifestyle choice or that it is a direct product of biological sex). If a thing like this was being taught as part of the national curriculum, it would be very harmful indeed and I would support your initiative to put a stop to it.

Re: Woke watch
"it seems much more likely your children were just being taught the basic facts about gender identity being a social construct"
You have no idea at all what you're talking about on this subject. It is taught in schools that gender identity is something that is inherent to every human being - that we have some form of gendered soul or gendered brain that inherently makes us a "man" or a "woman" and that this can be contrary to our sex. This has been ubiquitous across schools in the UK. This is not based on any reputable science.
'Gender dysphoria' does exist as a medically diagnosed condition but is not the same thing. If they taught this in schools then I'd be entirely 100% happy with that.
As for the fundraising, yes the leading "trans children" charity that lots of schools have raised money for... up to two years ago when it got investigated by the Charity Commission after a range of safeguarding failures, appointing a pedo advocate to its board of trustees and which actively advocated use of puberty blockers which often causes sterilisation of children and is not reversible. Suddenly schools stopped fundraising for them - despite being told by many concerned parents for many years of what they were doing and being dismissed (yes, me personally, I had this conversation with my kids' school before Charity Commission stepped in). Charity COmmission has now required the charity in its findings to reflect the Cass Review findings ie puberty blockers are not reversible and basically completely changing what the charity has been advocating for years and which schools had been teaching as fact.
But we've had this conversation on here before and you are utterly, utterly incapable of holding a clear line of argument on anything and are sure you know everything about the UK despite not living here.

Re: Woke watch
FC.
If for some reason your children were being taught lies as facts about gender, and if there really were funds being raised to sterilise children and change their sexes by force, something has gone horribly wrong at that school and you have every right and duty to get it put right.
But it seems much more likely your children were just being taught the basic facts about gender identity being a social construct while the charities in question were merely promoting tolerance of transgender people. I get the distinct impression that if this were the case, you’d be up in arms getting all frothy and uptight anyway.

That was an interesting read up until the inevitable happened.
Guess if someone is born a pig, they'll die a pig, displaying non stop porcine behaviour.

Re: Woke watch
H&P re your kids learning stuff you might disagree with as a parent...
... yes I do. But everything they learn in school should be based on:
a) a clear evidence base
b) where a fact/issue is disputed there should be both sides given adequate explanation
To go back to Nurse's example, Mary Seacole was a real person who achieved certain things. She was included in my kids' syllabus and there didn't appear to be any attempt to "one up" her on Nightingale. I have no problem with her in the syllabus and it is true that historically black and Asian people who had achieved things weren't represented in our syllabus so it's reasonable to include them now even if they are marginally less relevant in terms of the volume of achievements that person X may have achieved in relation to person Y.
On the 500 genders stuff, the whole concept has basically no scientific foundation and is inherently contradictory. In my kids' school it was taught as fact and there was fundraising for charities that promoted medicalisation and sterilisation of children through puberty blockers and other medical interventions. I don't want that taught in schools, not because it is something I disagree with but because it lacks any evidence base and worse doesn't even have the alternative view explained.

Re: Woke watch
What if they have a blue rinse and believe anyone with a humanities degree has an agenda to turn your boys into girls and your girls into boys if that’s the latest bullshit in the twattosphere?
And what is all your nearest family has a massive inferiority complex when it comes to education and civil society in general?
See, there is a reason I was alarmed when you said you were thinking about offering to educate your grandchildren. Misinterpretation and misrepresentation are reactive traits we need to educate people like you out of.

Re: Woke watch
If it's a choice, I'd rather instill them with my values than those of a purple-haired nitwit who wants them to think Mary Seacole is as important a figure as Florence Nightingale and that there are 500 genders.
