Woke watch
"There is a very good section on GB news where the ludicrous idiocies of Wokeness are looked at I thought we would should have one for WHO. I'll start with Baptiste on BBC: In Hungary,an ambassador's family are kidnapped by Islamic terrorists and carry out atrocities. At the end of the last episode Baptiste finds out that it is a false flag operation and conveniently, the real culprits are white supremacists who want to stop all immigration. Coronation Street ITV a gay black footballer is stopped by the police, because he is driving an expensive car. He is pushed to the ground during an altercation, and damages his leg threatening his career. Could have been written by Dawn Butler or a BLM activist."

"Swiss. 12:50 Wed Aug 11 'Mohammed from Manchester is as much British as you now and should therefore be depicted as such on the BBC. Except it you old fool.' What about Sanjay from your local? You were quite keen to send him home, if I remember rightly."

Re: Woke watch
During last years mayhem I remember reading and hearing about how kids in private education were back at school whereas state schools were not going back wether because of teachers unions or left wing teachers. I think that may have something to do with the present exam results.

Re: Woke watch
"Swiss. 12:50 Wed Aug 11 Mohammed from Manchester is fully entitled to his representation on the BBC - as well as, not instead of, me. He could also be a white Anglo-Saxon protestant - what makes you assume he isn't? And no wonder you have a problem nailing down a job - Brexit or not. I've recently announced my retirement, yet you seem to be certain that I ""grew up in the 1940s"". Maths clearly not your USP when it comes to selling yourself at interviw, is it?"
Re: Woke watch
"Mike Oxsaw 12:38 Wed Aug 11 Because your idea of Britishness is being a white Anglo-Saxon protestant. That's the Britishness you grew up in 1940s England. With your ""dusky foreigners"" you quoted the other day. You are a fucking dinosaur of another age that doesn’t exit anymore and in reality, was a big myth anyway. Mohammed from Manchester is as much British as you now and should therefore be depicted as such on the BBC. Except it you old fool. PS Watch some more Downtown Abbey to cheer yourself up."

Re: Woke watch
"Why do people insist on consuming content from a media provider they (now) feel excluded from or devalued by? Is it because ""The BBC is British and I'm British so I'm fucking going to watch it - RIGHT!!?"", or ""I've paid my licence fee so I'm damn well going to get my money's worth!"". Perhaps it's a slice of ""Who the fuck are YOU to tell me what I like and don't like!!?"". Maybe it's because ""I trusted the BBC when I was growing up, so I trust it now!"". Just ignore it. When the viewing figures - the real ones, not the manipulated ones - drop off a cliff they will be forced to change or lay people off, and the BBC NEVER lays people off."

Re: Woke watch
"I now know why working class kids are underachieving in education. It's because they don't go to school judging by the media coverage.. I saw an avert on TV for Asda with lots of chlidren going back to school and only three were white (one was in a wheeelchair). When I watched BBC newspaper review last night, three of the papers had photos of black kids accompanying their articles about the A level results on their front pages."

Swiss the Piss won't commit WHOicide - he needs this site; posters who respond to him are the closest thing he's got to real mates in his life.

"More succinctly than I am apparently capable. curry - 1747 (as currey, first published recipe for the dish in English), from Tamil கறி (kaṟi), influenced by existing Middle English cury (“cooking”), from Middle French cuyre (“to cook”) (from which also cuisine), from Vulgar Latin cocere, from Latin coquere, present active infinitive of coquō."

Re: Woke watch
"Swiss. 1:49 Mon Aug 9 No one was using Old English in the 14th century, it was Middle English (which had added a lot of Latin and French words like cuire - cury ) And ""y"" and ""i(e)"" were interchangeable well beyond the vowel shift. Spelling was only really done one ""correct"" way from Johnson's dictionary and later. And notice I did not say the curry as we generally use it came from that source. I just said it was an English culinary term well before the Tamil term ""kari"" - sauce - was known. There are, however, theories that the old use of curry/cury helped the adoption. Other than those corrections, fun post. Probably the first curry recipe in an English book is in one which I spent hours with a period printing of. Hannah Glasse's The Art of Cookery Made Plain and Easy (1747) From the 1758 version - How to Make a Curry the Indian Way https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/0/0b/Hannah_Glasse_To_make_a_Currey_the_Indian_Way_1758_edition.jpg"
Re: Woke watch
"""Cury is an anglicisation o Curie as 'y' and 'ie' are interchangeable in oldEnglish."" Sounds like you know your stuff, Swiss. And yet the word is cuire, not curie, making your comment more than a bit stupid."

Re: Woke watch
"""Curry"" in an English cookery context is a lot earlier than England's direct contact with India. Comes from French verb ""cuire"" to cook. One of earliest surviving collections of recipes in English is the 14th century Forme of Cury https://www.bl.uk/collection-items/a-recipe-for-pastry-castles-from-the-forme-of-cury"

Re: Woke watch
This reminds me of something Ann Leslie said a while ago regarding the Daily Mail. She said the paper and the readers have a sort of pact. The readers love a bit of outrage and moral panic so the paper confects it for them. It is a win/win.
