General Election - July 2024

This appears to be the rumour on Sky. An easy win for Starmer and some big names losing their seats. The Country needs a change but is it going to get one? The thought of seeing that annoying Beth Rigby for 6 weeks though is a horrifying thought.

"What happens if, for whatever reason, the asylum assessment cannot be done in 6 months? These illegals. They're all a little bit ""Oooh"", a little bit ""Aaah"", sticking it one to the authorities, ain't they? So all proper diamond geezers should be 100% behind them. Plus, they increase demand for housing over and above what is predicted, preventing house prices from ever falling (significantly), so all home owners should also be giving them 100% support. Oh, and they're nearly all mostly illiterate and ignorant of Western society and culture so are likely to do exactly what they're told to keep the benefits flowing, which means they can be exploited by unscrupulous employers and landlords. What's not to like? The British government should be supplying, not stopping, the boats for them, too."

"""The primary problem with asylum system is it should take 6 months max..."" I dunno about primary. That is a problem but it clearly being abused as a back door through to economic migration. Also allows criminals to be able to stay when normal migration would block them."

Mim - there is one element of that I do believe which is the system will be better managed. The primary problem with asylum system is it should take 6 months max to assess applications but it's taking 2 or 3 years or more in some cases because the civil service has been slashed and there aren't enough people to do it. Labour will employ more people meaning the time taken to assess claims will be a lot quicker. But whether the unsuccessful will then be removed is another matter.

"Pickle whatever amuses you about the U.K. it’s not half as amusing as the fact that Poland is on the doorstep of your figure of hatred…..it lets us know over here things ain’t half as bad as your geographic position for you to be gloating over our concerns. Your pain about that over years has kind of left you as a bit of a side attraction for our amusement, yet you still continue to put yourself in that window you lick."

I take it that this election will be won by all those taking credit for the wonderful transformation of the UK since Brexit. Expect this to be the dominant theme over the last 2 weeks and the s(Tories) will romp home again. Rejoice. Well played all.

"Nutsin: ""The good news with a Labour win is that the country will deteriorate even further and the misery will rise to such a level that the alternate parties will prosper and will get their chance in the following election,"" This is Dominic Cummins strategy with his new start up party. He is waiting for the Conservative demise before launching a party to challenge the status quo. What ever people think of his politics he is a proven campaigner. So worth watching what he does after the election."

"The good news with a Labour win is that the country will deteriorate even further and the misery will rise to such a level that the alternate parties will prosper and will get their chance in the following election, the misery isn’t quite painful enough yet I fear. We can count on a Labour Gov’t to deliver the necessary amount of pain though. So happy suffering!"

"As long as the UK labour market needs it, people will come to find work in the UK. The more wages the domestic labour force demands, the higher the migration. Count your lucky stars they’re willing to come and do the work you won’t ever have to do as long as they come."

"Can’t believe I’m saying this but I’d vote Labour before I’d vote Tory in the upcoming election. You’d need to put a gun to my head though because both are awful. But this lot in the Tory party simply can’t be trusted, the Party needs to be completely stripped and rebuilt."

"Just did some googling to find Labour's immigration policy... ""Labour’s immigration policy will reduce the reliance on overseas workers, address home-grown skills shortages and ensure that hard work is rewarded with proper wages and conditions A Labour government will prioritise strong border security and deliver a properly managed and controlled asylum system which returns people who have no right to be here"" Jesus Christ. Not long ago talk of anything like this would get you called a racist nazi brexit gammon racist bastard. If you wrote that out and asked a million people if that came from UKIP or Labour most would get it wrong. How fucking shite are the Tories on immigration when Labour start talking like that?? (Don't believe a word of it btw)"
