Agreed, me and a few mates were held up by some military people, with a machine gun, all because we took the wrong turning, it was in the days of the Junta though.

There are about 14-15 clubs in the Argie 1st division in Greater Buenos Aires, over half the clubs in the division ranging from River Plate (capacity. 83k) to Barracas Central (capacity 4k). The Barracas ground, which is basically a non league ground is only about 400 yards from another 1st division ground Huracán (cap. 48k). Last time Barracas played River Plate at home Barracas won 2-1. Football mad city!

Head for San Telmo. Kind of bohemian side of the city. Bit like Camden Town / Greenwich Village NY / Temple Bar Dublin. Mind you, I was there in the 90s so maybe a lot has changed. Saw a game at River Plate. Shit stadium and dull game. I hear Bocas Juniours is better but - be careful - Millwall on steroids, so keep your ‘boca’ shut.

rubble My mate says to go to one example Excelsior Exchange in Florida St. Like these are Travel agents/ taxi places that you will get a much better exchange rate. Not necessary above board though.

J.Riddle Did the same in Turkey. I can across a 10,000 TL note. Though thats nice then realised it was the old lira so pretty worthless

Iguazu Falls is good. You can walk across the bridge from there into Paraguay just for the sake of it.

In 88 I was in Rio inflation was 600+%! We realised things were bad when we left the apartment as there were beggers everywhere some had apparently amputated their legs! We didn't realise how bad the economy was until I tried to pay a taxi driver and he refused to take the notes said they were worthless. Turns out the Bank of Brazil had to print a new currency to try control run away inflation and there were two currencies old Cruzeiro 100000 = 100 Cruzado new in circulation, confusing as looked very similar. Everywhere we had been spending Cruzados and cheated short changed given back worthless Cruzeiros and now holding huge wads of worthless monopoly money, had to switch to US dollars. Banana Republic.

My mate was there last year. He said exchange/withdraw your money daily as inflation is rife. The money in your pocket can be worth 25% less by the end of the week. I think there are special places rather than the ATM where you can get better rates. And don't mention the Malvinas.

There's an airport in the middle of BA so a few days in igauzu is easy to do. Nice little town with nice restaurants

Let us know what you get up to. I'm doing a 6 week trip in December and January to Brazil, Argentina and maybe Chile if I can squeeze it in. Will be in BA for 4 days after New Year's.

If you're there for a week then spend three days going to the Iguazu Falls To be honest if I had three days in Buenos Aires I'd use all three of those days to visit Iguazu. Buenos Aires is a fantastic city but it's just another city after all However the flea markets are very good, don't obsess about visiting Boca - I saw San Lorenzo, Velez and Independiente in a weekend and all were a great atmosphere - didn't use agencies just turned up and bought on the day

Brilliant City. A sort of cross between Chicago and Barcelona. Do the Boca Juniors stadium tour. There is an agency where you can buy tickets for games as well. Also go and see Independente and Racing Club. And the cemetery where Eva Peron is entombed. It's amazing. Not many people speak English there, and they don't like us.
