Finally consider buying the smallest car you can with roof rails and get yourself a 2nd hand top box for the holidays. Has always worked for me. And then remember to remove the roof box or simply let the height barrier at the council tip do it for you.

Isn't the 2nd hand car market quite inflated atm? .Have a Hyundai which hasn't let me me down yet. However its more of a town car which I.bought for my work needs. .I reckon the next one up powerwise should be quite decent. Not sure what price you'd expect to.pay but deffo.go.for a 1.2 if you need it for trips and long journeys. They are economical to.run as well and insure..
