"A well known regular WHOer messaged me yesterday to ask if WHO had finally ceased to exist cos he's been unable to connect to it, and only got ""oops, we are unable to find that site"" etc. I told him it was working for me. This morning he sent me this: Tried connecting via Firefox & Edge on PC and Safari on IPad and continue to get a message stating the server can’t be found. Can you ask Admin if they have any ideas please? He's been around long enough to know to try wiping his knob on the screen, so I assume he's already done that."

So will have a go at creating a whole new site over Christmas that uses the .net login so everyone can keep their identities ( and sock puppets). Then when the old one keels over entirely I can force a password reset to break the dependency on it. I'll also work on carrying over the old threads by scraping the old site and importing them in. Like I say. project for Christmas."

I see the bad gateway error was back today. Looks like it has been down for a while. reason: The .co.uk server itself was unable to resolve requests to the original site using westhamonline.net. So .co.uk was suffering from the same problem I set it up to resolve for others. I have switched it to use the IP address and resolve the domain name locally. So it's working again now if you want to switch back to it. The caching set up on .co.uk gives it the whole site chance to stand up to it. www.westhamonline.co.uk

I have put some bot protection on the .co.uk. Should stop the site getting hit by bots and slowing it down. As before it depends on the .net site staying usable. This should help. It seems to be faster again now. But will see tomorrow night if it's enough.

"Sorry folks. The .net site has taken a turn for the worse and even all the caching I have put on the .co.uk is not going to help if that site is not able to even serve one page on a quiet day. Only option left is to set up a new one on the .co.uk domain. I'm busy up until Christmas but will have a bit time over the holidays. I'll see what I can do to create something as similar as I can to what we have now and migrate as much as I can across. Particularly the usernames etc, but will have have to work out a way of validating them the first time you log in with the old site. Race against time!"
