"Yea I read that, but he was on his way out anyway, but maybe the fall did speed that up a little. A pretty common thing old folk falling, that's how Cilla Black died, but again she was on the way out as well."

"Just been released his cause of death, all a bit sad.... The Cheshire Coroner's Court heard that Charlton lost his balance while getting up from his chair, hitting a window sill and possibly a radiator. Although no immediate injuries were visible, staff later noticed swelling on his back and called paramedics. Subsequent medical examinations, including a chest X-ray and a CT scan, showed that he had fractured ribs and was at risk of developing pneumonia. Doctors decided to put him on end-of-life care, and he died five days later. The inquest also noted that Charlton had a comprehensive medical history and had contracted COVID-19 in September. Jacqueline Devonish, the Senior Coroner for Cheshire, concluded that his death was accidental."

He could hit a ball with terrific power and the balls in those days were heavy old lumps.

easthammer 5.26 Be that as it may - when 250 international journalists got together in 1998 to select the Team of The Twentieth Century - it contained only ONE Englishman. Any guesses ? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_Team_of_the_20th_Century

"Truly a great player and person, I remember reading somewhere that he said he could have played longer at the top had he not left at least two years on the training ground. But he always gave 100% in everything he did. Probably even surpassed our own Bobby in International Standing and regard. May he Rest in Peace and Rise in Glory"

"Didnt matter who you supported, he was an absolute hero to kids in the 60's and 70's. The likes of him and Morro stand a million miles away from todays players in terms of attitude and class. RIP."

"Best, Law and Charlton, what a Trinity, Everton had Ball, Kendall and Harvey but we had ours, Hurst, Moore and Peters. Out of all those only Denis Law, Colin Harvey and Geoff Hurst are still with us."

The majority of the older generation will tell you he was the greatest player to ever play for England even above our own beloved Bobby Moore. I'll take their word for it whilst knowing the world is a worse place without both legendary Bobby's now in it. RIP Bobby you comb over legend.

I saw him play a game for Newcastle in about 1979. Hit the post from 45 yards. Brilliant

Sir Bobby still holds the record for England goals from open play if you take off Kane's 21 or so penalties!

Legend is an overused word in football but he truly was. The most famous English footballer of all time all over the world. 49 goals in 106 England games for a midfielder is crazy along with 249 in 750 odd Man U games A class act RIP
