"Absolute shitstain of a bank. Had a mortgage and current account with them for years. When the 2009 financial crisis hit, my wife lost her job and I was also at risk of redundancy. Explained this to their mortgage department, based in Sheffield, to ask if we could revert to an interest-only repayment scheme for 6 months just to see us through. Was pretty much laughed at by the cսnt on the other end of the phone, and then berated by him as I had the temerity to owe a couple of grand on a credit card, which just so happened to be a HSBC card. Explaining to him that our problems were actually the result of banks like his acting like cunts got me nowhere. Was quite surprised when I received a call a few days later explaining that the 'misunderstanding on their part' had now been rectified, and they actually offered me a 12 months interset-only option. Suffice to say that as soon as my fixed term deal was up both my wife and myself fucked off elsewhere sharpish"

I know two people who worked for them one in branch and then area manager and the other in Canary wharf.. Both ended up getting paid off prior to taking them to employment tribunals and both absolutely detested working for them by the end. Toxic culture and management apparently. Didn't they also get bailed out by the government/ taxpayer a few years back ? Annoying tv adverts (borders pro EU ) too

"I used them while I was in Oman - absolute car crash of a bank. Customer service was provided, grudgingly, it seemed, from their Dubai office."

If I remember correctly doesn't HSBC stand for Hong Kong & Shanghai Banking Corporation? Can't think why they'd have outages?

A bank with its roots firmly in a country with a solid reputation. Can't see a issue.
