"My brain has decided it's no longer a thing I'm allowed to do, ""oh you're tired, well you're not any more? ""Oh you were relaxed? Well now I'm going to elevate your heart rate for a laugh"" ""oh you have no worries? Well here's a hundred things to think about.' I know the basics, no screen time before bed, room and work separate, exercise and no caffeine too late. Nothing working. Doctors are useless too, apparently sleeping pills are being stockpiled for a rainy day or something. Any other tips??"

So what is is yeah There's a medicine which is a mix of melatonin and l threanate Which helps get one off to sleep and helps to stay in sleep. A neurologist called Andrew hubermann talks about it. 1 or 2 of my patients found it very helpful Thanks for listening

"havent been able to ""drop off"" to sleep since I was 10 i started smoking weed - that helped however the surefire way of dropping off - is sitting on a packed tube train going more than 7 stops"

One thing possibly may he'll that I know about I see a lot of stroke patients in my work and they often have sleep problems. Dr's will prescribe zopiclone. In my opinion it fucus you up. Some people find d it disastrous some ok but need more and more higher doses. They also give you melatonin not always effectiv3

"I've always been able to get to sleep very quickly since I was a kid, with the odd bad night, maybe 1 in 50 when its took me a while. As I got older, I learnt to think of things that had an end to them, like making a list of things that happened today, or trying to remember a cricket score, football line up and subs bench from a specific match, or even the order of books in a series. As I've got older, I get woken up needing a wee once a night (more if I'd had a few beers), but over the last year I've had a few headaches and cramp in my calves or feet at night. Since I've taken magnesium and cod liver oil tablets, both have completely gone. Since taking magnesium and cod liver oil, I also wake up feeling more energetic and tend to have a better appetite"

I fall asleep right away but usually wake up 5/6 hours later and can't get back to sleep. I've found that ZMA tablets give me 7/8 hours but for some reason I feel like I've slept worse and also get side effects like headaches. I'm thinking of trying just magnesium tablets on their own to see if that helps.

"We've had this - or a related - post before and someone mentioned a book called, if I recall, The Circadian Rhythm, from where I get my batshit crazy ideas about lighting and eating - I didn't take on board many of the other suggestions though because it would have involved to much swerve away from a lifestyle I (not you, me) enjoy. It was a fair bit of trial and error to begin with but worth persevering. I lent the book out to someone about a year ago and it's not been returned yet so they must feel It clearly works - I suspect he's just put it under his pillow for a bit of extra support in the night..."

I find banging my missus who is 15 years younger than me every night sends me straight out after I unload. So maybe get a younger model although understandably most cant pull it off like me.

"As Stubbo said, going to bed with the intention to get to sleep will totally fail. Get up early, work hard, do exercise, fill your day, and go to bed when your tired. But I I always put the TV on. Have a flick and settle on something easy. I'm soon nodding off. I get to sleep in seconds. My problem is the other end. As soon as I wake up my mind is zipping. So invevitably I get up to just to get on with stuff. So I rarely lay in even at weekends. If your busy write it all down before bed to get it out your mind. Or if all else fails, take Kalms. Absolute nailed on to get you to sleep."
