"easthammer, You said that the Man Utd match ""illustrated"" the debate, which suggests that there was something about that game in particular that clarifies things. Seeing as this match only differed from the norm in that we played less Moyesball than usual then it's a reasonable assumption to think that you reckon that the shitter football we play, the greater our chances of winning (despite the fact that we all know Moyes almost never beats the top teams with his usual brand of football). Apparently you didn't really mean all that and just wanted to let everyone know that you prefer it when we win games. Ho-hum."

"Grumpster As you say each to their own. But I will try to make my position clear. First and foremost I don't consider going to West Ham a hobby. I don't go primarily to be entertained. I go for much deeper reasons connected to background, upbringing and identity. In modern parlance, you might say metaphorically it is in my DNA. It may not be logical but it is what it is. When I posted on this thread something that merely suggested there was a debate around what was more important playing ""good"" football or winning, and that I chose winning that was immediately jumped upon by Eerie Descent as a pro Moyes position and you seem to be jumping to the same wrong conclusion. I am undecided as to whether Moyes should go or not."

"Each to their own with what they expect from football, but when shelling out thousands of pounds a year on your hobbie, then surely being entertained is the bare minimum? I can't even watch us on TV anymore as quite frankly, I'd be less bored watching Mrs browns boys and that is also turgid shit. Haven't even watched a second of an England game since 2022 thanks to them also being managed by a boring inept cսnt, so sad times in my football life at the moment. I mean imagine thinking a manager who plays 5 defenders and 3 DM's is the way forward and good for the club whilst not playing a single striker in over half of our games. People wearing tinted glasses because he won a tournament that my mum could have managed us to last season against a load of teams who would struggle in the championship. Sad times really."

"Eerie I think you will find that what I said was that I prioritise winning over ""good"" football. Not absolutely everything. But to answer your question obviously I didn't get a great deal of pleasure from the league until towards the end when we won a few. Of course I was buoyed up by European wins weren't you?"

"twoleftfeet is the same. He listed the only 5 seasons he's enjoyed in his life and they were seasons where we'd won something. He also, bizarrely, chose this season. A season where we haven't won one game so far this year."

"Eerie Descent wrote... Re: ‚ö? Man Utd v West Ham - Official Match Thread easthammer 7:48 Mon Feb 5 With respect, that really is the most ridiculous, cretinous 'debate' anyone could ever have. Firstly, why does playing well and winning have to be mutually exclusive? It's absolutely fucking mental to suggest you can't win games playing well, you've got to be mentally ill to suggest that. Secondly, and more importantly, if you're mentioning that after losing away to Man Utd, look up Moyes record away to them, Liverpool, Chelsea & Arsenal. 1 win in his entire career, and that was the recent robbery at Arsenal. It essence, MOYES ALL HAS NOT EXACTLY FUCKING WORKED IN THOSE GAMES, HAS IT? The man is not a serial winner, never has been, never will be Eerie First off in my experience when somebody starts ""with respect"" that is the last thing they intend. Certainly, you didn't show any respect in carefully reading what I posted. For clarity, I am not starting a debate merely commenting on the fact that there has been one taking place. You may think it is a ridiculous cretinous debate because of your fixation that Moyes should be gone. For me, it isn't a debate either but for a different reason. I prioritise the fact of winning or losing over some indefinable measures of playing ""good"" football. From the 1950's to the present day, I have seen lots of different definitions of good football but the joy of winning has always been a constant. Now as to my mental health nowhere in my post did I suggest you couldn't win games by playing well, read it again and try to do it without the red mist descending. As for the appropriateness of the timing of my remarks is this not a thread about the away game at Man Utd? I kind of miss your point but then again a lot of what you write gets lost on me. We are just different people I guess. For example, I don't think I will give up going next year just because I don't like the manager and his style of play, but apparently you will, so be it."

"Was that the 2-0, should have been 3-0, robbery? You can’t blame him for individual player errors. Having said that I’d drop Soucek for Sunday and bring in Phillips for him and Cornet for Johnson."

"I think yesterday's game illustrated the debate that has been kicked around here for some time: is winning with moyesball better than losing playing more open football? For me, I'd sooner win. Of course, ideally, that would also see them play great as well. But I long ago learnt life doesn't give you everything you want."

"I thought we played more open and the system could have worked with players better suited to it. We were reliant on someone to hold up the ball and Bowen was just bullied. Paqueta and Kudus are much better at that. Johnson played well on the right, less so on the left where he found crossing a problem. Kudus much better on the right but was stuck on the left most the time. Their goals come from basic mistakes and where as our finishing was abject with Bowen. Soucek and Emerson misfiing, they just made the best of our errors. Didn't overrun us but comfortably won. With our lack of options, we really need to bed in other players quickly. Cornet is a left wing, we need to play him there. He's probably not the magic answer but give him a chance to work alongside the same players a few games and see if he is any good. Certainly has pace, a bit of trickery and not afraid to take a player on. Phillips looks shot and it's easy to see why Pep wasn't worried about him going. A real lack of awareness of what is around him, lack of strength caught on the ball again, need to see much more fire in his game. He looks laid back and he needs to get stuck in and battle. Miles off where he was at Leeds and used to totally different systems to ours. Overall a disappointing result but we had way more shots on goal than them and got forward. Probably should have had a pen when Alvarez was climbed over and I thought Ward Prowse free kick was charged down by players encroaching way before the ball was struck by him. None of these things seem to be checked unless they are against you."

It's hard to describe to the streamers on here just how pony it is over there when you play the anti-football we do, every fucking week."

Willtell 1.27 wrote “Except we’re discussing Moyes getting his contract renewed” I have made my comments concerning yesterday’s result on a this thread titled ManU v WestHam. Perfectly legitimate to put up what I did. If you want to discuss Moyes’ contract why don’t you post about it on the Moyes out thread.

That’s a shame Eerie but I fully understand. I stopped when BFS was manager for much the same reason. Even Hugh Southon at C&H wrote that he won’t be going to games next season if Moyes has his contract renewed! Sullivan is clearly unaware of his customer dissatisfaction but then he is 76 or so isn’t he? Time he stepped back too

"Manuel 7:02 Mon Feb 5 As you know, I've been like that for a long while now, but trust me, that is the general feeling of most of the people I know who go, which is a fucking lot. Don't get me wrong he still has his backers who keep trotting out 'but we're sixth' (that's now 7th, will be 8th soon) but a lot will definitely not renew if he stays, myself included. It's ok for a few numpties on here to say 'fuck off, you won't be missed', but I think people are going to be very surprised at the attendances next season if he inevitably stays. You won't be able to pay me to go to watch that fucking shit for another season."
