"Nagel, you’re right. I should’ve remembered that, as Athlete Cured also contains one of my favourite lyrics from them. “I also discovered that Gert would turn his engine over for up to an . I don't know why. Citizens in my street are also Partial to this”"

It's on bbc iplayer for the next couple of weeks. Watched it yesterday for the first time in years. Still funny and it really reminded me of how much The Office took from it.

"WHU(Exeter) 3:32 Sun Feb 4 It wasn't Bremen Nacht. It was Athlete Cured. They were all big fans of the film. Apparently they'd been jamming the Spinal Tap song in soundchecks and suddenly Mark E. Smith decided to use it on the album, without giving credit. Mind you, he rarely gave songwriting credit to the band members for writing material either so at least he was consistent."

"onsideman 12:56 Sun Feb 4 On the subject of Janines, I think it signalled the death of any band I was ever in when any member brought their girlfriend to a rehearsal. Nothing guaranteed to get people's backs up as much as when somebody's girlfriend wants to dress the band up as animals.:)"

Bremen Nacht off the Falls frenz album is a complete rip off of one of the songs in Spinal Tap. Mark e Smith probably did it for a giggle.

"Spent many hours on tour buses watching this. Resonated massively with all of us... apart from the band who were brilliantly cast, over the years I met multiple Ian Faiths, Bobbi Flekmans, Arti Fufkins, Sir Dennis Eton-Hoggs... not to mention Janines"

"Bad News certainly resonates with anyone who has done the toilet curcuit in the vain hope that you will get somewhere. One band I was in picked up a gig at a day's notice as favour to a promoter who had booked us do other venues. Apart from a smattering of mates the crowd was just five and, of course, a dog. I believe that the dog was indeed let in free. We all laughed that at least it wasn't in Grantham."

Leonard Hatred 2:34 Fri Feb 2 I can't actually describe anything as 'black' any more. The colour name is now officially 'none more black'.

Derek Smalls' on stage schtick is heavily bases on Saxon bass player Steve Dawson including the pointing while playing an open string. Harry Shearer went on tour with Saxon for research before shooting started.

"When it first came out (1982?), it was only on in one cinema in Baker Street. Bandmates and I used to go and see it every weekend for as long as it was on there (10+ weeks?). Obviously heavy rotation started on video/DVD when they became available. Conversation at band rehearsals for decades consisted of probably about 20% Spinal Tap quotes, There was (or is) a band called 'Cindy's First Mustache' :)"
