One of the largest licensing thieves industry that there is! Absolute rip off merchants and refuse to hire cars abroad

Beautiful around Lake Como.... only time we went there it did absolutely piss down. We got a ferry over to Bellagio and got absolutely soaked to the skin... went into a pizza restaurant and left puddles under the table. Most miserable that I have ever seen my son (though he enjoyed the rest of the trip!)

whereabouts on Lake Como are you staying? we stayed in Mandello del Lario and it was a very good base. hire a motorbike - you'll look way cooler.

"Rossal 12:59 Tue Mar 19 We did this, but also drove around a couple of the other lakes. There is a lovely hotel in Bellagio we stayed for a few nights, we stayed at the main one at the top of como which was nice but pricey for what it was. Bellagio was amazing and a lovely little place. https://www.bellagiohoteldulac.com/en Thank me later. some lovely authentic italian restaurants as well"

I've always rented with Autoreisen been with them the last 20 years or so never had a problem and the cars are decent. If its good enough for the Germans then that speaks for itself

"I begin and end my search at skyscnanner.net, generally. I'll check if the company (ie Enterprise) are cheaper direct than the booking site it takes me to (which they were for Stuttgart to Freiburg), but generally it's not. Look out for the fuel policy (full-to-full etc), the mileage limit, where the collection point (in/off terminal) is etc. DO NOT take their excess cover, get your own from Eversure or somewhere (MoneySavingExpert will guide). An annual policy with one of those will be cheaper than a weekend with the hire company. Take dozens of pictures. After Seville away the other year we heard back five WEEKS later that we'd apparently done €1500 of damage. Naturally they were told to bugger off with pictures. Reviews are fine but people often only review when they've got something to moan about. I've used loads of companies and only reviewed two - the one above and one in Albania who were brilliant."

"did same a couple of years back and just used a compare company, all open and available to do when you get there at the desks for a bit cheaper if you don't mind doing it on the day, depends what time you get in. Great place to dirve, they are fucking mental"

Despite the horror stories you hear I have never had any issues... used Auto Europe last year while in Croatia and they seemed good and at the cheaper end of the range.

"Try going through the usual aggregate sites (moneysupermarket etc) or just off ryanair or easyjet websites. I've used most of the big hire companies and many smaller, all been ok. Sixt often have deals on their website as well."
