"Given many here like a wine or one type or another :) here is a recommendation for two really good value Italian red wines, currently on offer at Tesco Montepulciano D'Abruzzo £5,50 Primitivo usually £6.50 currently £1 off so also £5.50 Both available for the buy six get 25% meaning only £4.10 If you like light bodied reds I challenge you find two better valued wines than these"

Goose Bulk discounts that apply across the whole range aren't really what I was thinking about. Wines (particularly whites and generally less expensive ones) don't last forever. And some years or even batches of a particular wine are just plain not very good. I'm always wary of stuff being knocked out very cheap.

"Don't like wine. On the other hand Mrs. Trent Reznor does like red wine & has pretty fantastic breasts. But that's another story. We stayed at Cliff at Lyons several yrs ago & the Maitre d recommended a douro with the steak. BTW, the Maitre d' looked remarkably similar to Rafael Benitez. I got a photograph of the 'Benitez lookalike' with the family somewhere. Anyway, Aldi have a very good value Douro, Animus. Some folks here will complain that the glass is either important/unimportant."

"25% off 6 is a market share play. Takes about 4wks to make back the gross margin, but it’s the nature of the market."

Supermarket wines that have been drastically reduced have often been drastically reduced for a good reason.

I like a nice Rioja with some decent cheese.

"In Thailand, a 75cl bottle of average wine can cost, due to import duty, up to twice the price of a litre bottle of locally produced 40% proof rum. I've not actually had a drink of wine - decent or otherwise - since before Covid."

I don't like either red or white wine. I prefer black or blue. My 2 favourites are Black Tower and Blue Nun

"Am in no way a wine connoisseur, but managed to get several bottles of this last Christmas for the very reasonable sum of about £8 per bottle from ASDA iirc: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Jacobs-Creek-Double-Cabernet-Sauvignon/dp/B09SWN8J1Y Probably the smoothest red I've ever had. Has since increased in price, but seeing as I pay close to £7 for a pint of Singha (brewed in the UK) in my work local still not too bad."

I'm a little surprised that BRANDED hasn't been on yet to say how much he pays for his wine.

"Although very mainstream and not necessarily a favourite white, reduced from £10.50 to £7.50, and then down £5.60 per bottle with a further 25% off six bottles at Tesco for the very drinkable Oyster Bay would argue against the case of not being able to get reasonable wine for less than a pint at your local."

Only in this country. Mainland Europe you can get some very likeable local wine for a few euros.

Any so called wine that costs less per bottle than a pint of beer at your nearest pub has got to be an insult to your organs and urinal tract.

"Goose you are nothing if not perceptive. Truth be told although my humble abode does not have a coal cellar let alone one for wine. The wine rack is in a cool utility room, and because I am an impatient individual and often can't wait for the red wine to reach room temperature I am often to be caught unashamedly drinking red on the cold side. I am lost to polite society"

They were trying to pretend the jug meant it was from a giant subterranean vault or something other than a bloody fridge maybe. Frogs are funny.

Starting to wonder what Pickle has against the culinary traditions of Italy.

"Thanks, Goose I'll give the Negroamaro a go. I note that like Primitivo it is native to Puglia. Thanks, H&P for many years now I have not been slow to chill red wine, on a summer's day, Having discovered it served like that from an earthenware jug in Charante of all places. Who would have expected it of the French to be so unpretentious around wine?"

"Both tend to be really high on fruit and low on tannin and acidity especially when young. To enjoy either, especially on a hot day, I’d drink straight after a couple of hours in the fridge or, failing that, dunk an ice cube in the glass for a couple of minutes."
