Euro 2024 - Inc Southgate resignation

"We seem to have an England v Bosnia thread but not an actual Euro 2024 thread so here it is So, do we realistically think England can win it? On paper we obviously have a very talented squad but I just don't see us going all the way. For me it's ""same old"" when it comes to England. Breeze the group, favourable draw in last 16 and win then up against far superior opposition in the QFs and out. At best I can see us at the SF stage before being beaten again. Winners for me: France, Portugal, Spain Dark horses: Germany - even though it's a home tournament they've been in a consolidation period, could go close Biggest flops: Scotland - no goals scored Top goalscorer: Mbappe I'm just hoping it's a decent tournament with plenty of decent games that's not ruined by VAR (are they using it?) consolidation period but could go close"

"England still have the window open to win something with the players available and you have to say the finishing positions of 2 finals and a quarter final have Southgate as England's most successful manager since Sir Alf ......... BUT In hindsight you'd say ... He had a talented group of players that he didnt get the best out of After 8 years he was still fiddling around not having a settled team or strategy He wasnt very positive He had extraordinary good fortune with the draws England got He had a knack of being out managed when teams that were equal or better appeared He managed in an era when some of the usual top teams ... Germany, Spain, Italy etc were short of their normal standard Look forward to him managing in the Premier League. As long as its not for us"

"It very probably won't happen but I would love Klopp to get the job for one reason. How would those precious scouse cunts react to their messiah managing the country they've supposedly hate? Like I say, won't happen and anyway, I think any national manager should come from the country whose team he is managing."

"Miike - Seeing as there are only around six posters left on here now, it's good to have a debate anyway. Shut the cսnt down and have done with it once and for all?"

"The weird-blink wally spent over three major international tournaments pandering to the FA and PL establishment. He was also relatively successful with a crop of highly gifted players to choose from, even managing to waste the opportunity to win something at least twice. He’s a triumph of mediocrity only celebrated by the mediocre."

"he had eight years and didn't deliver one performance like the Holland game. again, have a look at the way we set up against Germany in that tournament and then look at the way he surrendered the Italy final, playing five defenders and two holding players"

"Like most, I liked and rated El Tel as a coach, but I've seen it said than in Euro 96 we only played brilliant against the Dutch, we were a bit lethargic in the group games, should have lost to Spain, then lost when we played a top side. Whether folk like it or not Southgate has been a very successful England coach, just daft to say otherwise."

".....and the FA couldn't wait to get rid of terry. so much so, they even named his successor (the god bothering cսnt glenn) before the 96 games had started. they've (the FA) always been our biggest problem"

"venables was very unlucky against germany in 96, and his mentality was on another level to that anti football cսnt southgate. he played a true 3-5-2 with actual wingers (not five defenders) and his only semi defensive player in midfield was more of an all rounder in ince. greenwood was a shocking international manager (preferring rix over devo in 82) and robson was another that had questionable judgement, picking donkeys like fenwick instead of alvin"

"Zico - Sorry, but what a load of bollocks - Venables, Robson and Greenwood had plenty of great players to work with and come up short the same as everyone else has, makes me laugh that people make out that only Southgate 'fucked up'. Looking forward to winning the world cup in 26."

"Someone made a good point the other day that you could argue that England had better players than Spain or at the very least the individuals are playing regularly for higher rated clubs than the Spanish team but the Spain side were a team rather than a bunch of talented individuals like England. Would have been interesting to see how a Venables, Robson or Greenwood would have done with Southgate's squad and the kindness of the draws in tournaments."

"ED - Maybe some of our players are just overrated, Rice is no Kante, Starboy is no Figo, Foden is no Zidane, Kane is no Van Basten, Bellingham is no Gascoigne, etc, but what I do find rather strange about this tournament was that we went backwards from previous tournaments, now I'm not saying we were that amazing before but in the last WC and Euro's we we played some decent stuff, by memory anyway.. All I will say is IMO this shitfest wasn't all down to Southgate, and that we won't be winning fuck all when the new bloke comes in, so let's see whose fault that is."

"Manuel 5:38 Fri Jul 19 Name me anyone from our midfield or forwards who weren't mostly shit? Is it all their faults? And Foden was the only one out of them that was mostly not played in his natural position, in fact, out of all of them, playing Foden on the left wing is the most unsuited any of them could be to a postion. Kane played up front, was DOG shit, 'Starboy' played in his favoured position practically the whole tournament and was mostly shit, Bellingham played where he wanted and was mostly shit, Rice was shit. Foden is the only one who you can have an excuse for for fuck sake, but he's easy for the press and pundits to go after, and we all know why that is..."

"Have said before they should be obliged to have a national as manager As the likes of Spain, Germany, Italy etc always have as far as I recall Having a German or Argentinian in charge is almost as embarrassing has having a Kiwi or Aussie in charge of English cricket teams No standout candidates but suspect Potter will get it after they try and fail to attract Howe Have said before I would prefer Howe only to see Shearer be forced to explain why Moyes or Southgate arent IDEAL for Newcastle"

Foden is talented but playing in a Man City team that spends 80% of the match in the attacking third with minimal defensive responsibilities helps More so with everyone shitting themselves marking Haaland and having the likes of DeBruyne & B Silva to take the pressure off

"I have been saying the same thing about Foden for a while, I don’t get all the hype, I am not impressed. I agree about the national team coach too. The coach should English. Howe is the obvious choice."

"Some are still making excuses for Foden? Turn it in ffs, 7 games he played and he was fucking shit apart from on ehalf against the Dutch. Stop blaming the coach for everything. Was it also Southgate's fault when we went backwards from the throw in late against Spain? We ain't winning fuck all regardless of who the new coach is."

I'm a purist. There should be no foreign managers for any country. I'm baffled fifa would even allow it.

"As someone that goes all over with England, I'd bite your hand off for Pep. But he obviously isn't going anywhere any time soon, so that's out. I could live with Potter."
