TBH I think they could up the game with Athletics a little bit with no British male in the studio as a mainstay and Ennis and Lewis probably pre-empt and react a bit too emotionally to events rather than objectively but they are still good. Michael Johnson is simply brilliant as is Gabby Logan. Jaz Sawyers I think is there just because she's a woman if I'm being totally honest. Swimming great, cycling, great. I think the gymnastics trio do a good job and Leon Taylor on the diving is a brilliant commentator. With a sport that can be hard to understand what's 'good' or 'bad' with an untrained eye, his reactions instantly tell you, and I love how excited he gets when British divers do well, without going OTT. He then follows up with a good technical breakdown of what was good and bad with what's just been seen. It does make you realise the expertise people have in sports that most people know nothing about. Maybe that's why it's different to football as we all have our own strong opinions before anyone has said a word. BBC's presentation as ever is just a cut above anything else. They absolutely nail these big events and make that licence fee worthwhile. However, my one big criticism is that they don't show enough GB critical things live. You really notice this when every event is available to watch live elsewhere. They are often behind real time sometimes quite substantially while presenting things as if they are live. Swimming and athletics being the big exceptions. Lots of the track cycling was a long way past live which irks me as someone who follows a lot of the sports closely and wants to see it all live rather than accidentally seeing the result first. I know it's really hard when so much is going on and they have to do their best and I believe they are only allowed to show one channel of it at any one time now, but you realise so much just isn't 'as it happens' any longer. It wouldn't be so bad but if you're really looking at the schedule and wanting to see things live, it's really frustrating to know it's going on but not being shown because the beeb are showing a replay (not even live coverage sometimes) of some hockey or water polo match that GB aren't even involved in instead."

Great games and ranks alongside Sydney and London. As Faux pointed out it is interesting to note how some countries appear to punch above or below their weights in terms of population. Looking at the medal table the clear winner is Holland. The French did two things which are likely to catch on in firstly having a fan zone where at the end of a day some of the medal winners came to greet people. Secondly the emblematic Olympic flame was nearby this zone rather than being in the athletics stadium.

Paris has done a great job Have tried to be innovative & have shown off the city beautifully As with London all the prophets of doom have been shown to be wrong Great crowd support throughout too
