"@atwfnr (instagram) Essex 5k Road Running Championships Friday 9th August, from 5:30pm Colchester Sports Park Just a bit of shameless promotion for a race that I am helping to organise on Friday with the help of Active Training World. For clarity, the reason for this post is to: a) invite and encourage people to run and attend the event in order to bring as many people together for a great night of racing. b) invite and encourage potential sponsors to offer financial support for the race as I am hoping to improve this race year on year until it is the biggest running event in Essex and then beyond. We have an excellent course which consists of 5 x 1km flat concrete loops of the cycling track, absolutely perfect for fast running and we have a very high calibre of athletes taking part in the event alongside enthusiasts and club runners. We expect the men's race to be won in low 14 minutes and the women's in low 16. The event kicks off with a junior 1 mile race at 5:30pm, followed by 5 ceded 5k races, including the Elite Women's Race and Elite Men's Race at 8:00pm and 8:30pm respectively. We have some big prizes too that I've managed to source from various sponsors, these prizes are awarded in BOTH the women's and men's races: - 2 x Box tickets to see McFly at the O2 for the top 3 - Cash for top 5 (£150, £100, £50, £25, £10) - SOAR running Voucher for top 3 (£200, £150, £100) - SOAR running Voucher first U18 (£100) - Polar Vantage Running Watch - Team Vaga Hat - Shyu Socks - Bottle of Sparkling Wine from Dedham Vale Vineyard for Winners - Tiptree Team Room Voucher, - 1 Free V02 and Threshold Treadmill test at the Essex University It's a big event and we'll have a live DJ, food and drink on offer (not necessarily alcoholic!) and spectators will be able to see the athletes twice per lap if they spectate from inside the course.
