West Ham United Are In The Race To Recruit This AC Milan Defender: Should Lopetegui Go For Him?

West Ham United are in the race to recruit AC Milan defender Fikayo Tomori as they look to strengthen their squad next year.

by Abhinab Ghosh

In a recent report, Milan Live mentioned that West Ham United are in the race to recruit AC Milan defender Fikayo Tomori. It has been claimed that the Hammers would have to rival Aston Villa and Fulham in pursuit of the English centre-back next year.
Tomori’s Good Form In Italian Football This Season

Tomori is having a solid campaign at the Italian club after he put in a few dominant displays at the heart of their defence. The 26-year-old has played in eight matches for the Milan giants this season in multiple competitions.

The 26-year-old has been a rock at the back for AC Milan as he is averaging 1.3 tackles, 1.2 interceptions and 2.5 clearances per 90 minutes in Serie A. He was even tidy when distributing possession from inside his half based on his pass completion rate of 93.2% in the Italian top tier (stats via whoscored).

Tomori is under contract at San Siro until the summer of 2027 which could make it difficult for the Hammers to sign him on a cut-price deal next year.

Should West Ham United Boss Julen Lopetegui Go For Tomori?

Tomori is a solid tackler of the ball and can sense the danger well to secure possession back for his team inside his half. He usually clears the danger when the opposition are on the front foot and is an accurate passer of the ball.

Standing at 1.85m, the English sensation can use his robust frame to win a few aerial duels for his team. He already knows the Premier League well from his time at Chelsea and won’t take much time to adjust to life at West Ham if Julen Lopetegui can find a way to bring him on board next year.

Tomori would undoubtedly enhance the quality of the East London club’s defence. He is good enough to fight for regular first-team football at the London Stadium in the coming years.

At 26, Tomori has his best years ahead of him which makes him a good option for the Hammers to pursue this January or at the end of this campaign. With all things considered, Lopetegui should go for a player of his skillset if he intends to bolster his defence in 2025.
