Anyone started to learn Piano as an adult?

looking for some tips and book suggestions to get started.

I always wanted to learn piano, l saw a Yamaha pianora 15 in a junk shop , worked perfectly, in three months l have learned , Fur Elise , passacallia, ( l can’t go from one end to the other because l only have five Octaves but can do the rest  ) ,adagio bwv 974, but really struggling with nocturne (e flat major) l think l need a pedal for that because when l take my fingers off the keys the sound stops but l can play it up to a point but it needs the bounce ,  Someone said to me if you keep showing up on the piano you WILL get there and it seems true ,l’m gonna give it a year if l still enjoy it I’m gonna upgrade to a baby grand piano !

I took up Piano as an Adult. Started about age 40.

I wasn't sure whether it was possible as you often hear teachers talking about kids having to start before 7 or 8 to be any good. But I read Alan Rusbridger's Play it Again Through the book he investigates whether you can learn at such a late age and talks to everyone from famous pianist to neurosurgeon who tell him that even in later life your brain can physically change shape as you force yourself to learn complex new things. But importantly he has limited time and only spends 20 or 30 minutes each day practising. And he succeed playing Chopin's Ballade No.1 within a year.

I started with my eldest son and am now studying for ABRSM grade 7. What I noticed from learning with someone so young is how much longer it takes to improve. I practice four or five times as much him and he is still much better than me. The advantage you have with age is more self discipline, but you need it as it slower. 

The other thing you may need is a good teacher. Which can be expensive. I am lucky as our teacher was neighbour and a concert pianist. But what makes him good is he believes anyone can learn music and is not one of those that thinks anyone without talent is wasting their time. For him it's just a matter how much more effort you might need to put it. Though I am probably at my limit at Grade 7.

It can’t be that hard, even Victoria Wood managed it.

Started picking out tunes in my thirties. Gradually picked up the chord structure over the years, and can now sit down and play any tune that comes into my head, with chords or arpegios accompanying, usually at my first attempt and always in C major or minor. The hardest I ever worked out was The Girl from Ipanema, what a nightmare that was. Can't play much classical music as a consequence of being unable to read music, which is a shame because I don't listen to much else. I did play Bubbles once on a piano in St Pancras before coming to a game, but the place was so noisy I doubt if anybody heard. If you want to learn, do it with music as aural playing is quite limiting.

Really want to do the Rockschool Piano grades, but probably need to start of with something as an introduction.

Can do the Key of C with both hands which I learnt of you tube!

I have only ever been able to learn any instrument when I am working towards playing something that I really want to play. music has a lot of guiding rules tgat might help.
