Watched last year's Everton home game hungover out in Athens after the Olympiacos game with a few other West Ham fans. That was bloody awful, didn't think it could be any worse this time around.. I almost fell asleep standing up watching it on Saturday. How many times did we seem to have a break on, get near their box and then just turn around and pass it back to the centre backs in our own half??  The only player who generated any excitement trying to take a man on was Summerville. Bowen looked reluctant to take anyone on or is that him being told to look for options behind rather than losing the ball? Now would be the ideal time to get rid of this mumbling bore while there is still something left to salvage from the season

Agree with most on here. My only comment would be - Two decent chances at home to Everton. Says it all.

Watched the first half and then switched it off.
Slow, next to nothing in goal scoring opportunities. Is this really the next level football that we were hoping for?
Love Bowen, but he is not captain material. This team really need a kick up the backside whilst on the pitch.

Mmmm, all very cliched and matter of fact, it's hardly as black and white as that is it. You're making excuses for some Man Utd cսnt who thinks he's doing us a favour and isn't playing at full tilt? If he dropped him for old man Coufal they'd be fucking murders, and you know it.

Nope I'm not making excuses for him as it isn't just him is it. The whole team is lacking in intensity and effort. They just look lost and confused. He takes up some very odd advanced positions. Yet Man U fans gripes were he never passed the half way line.

An ex Man U cսnt who thinks he's doing us a favour based on what?

Is that not a cliché then 😉

Main reason why is several times we've lost it high up the pitch and he makes no real effort  to get back.
This is why sommerville made that tackle

It's also why alvarez is often left against a pacey winger and either fouls or gets done.

to his credit todibo was motoring back as fast as sommerville, bit far too many players were going through the motions.

Lopetegi might well be a shit manager, but frankly if playera arent outting in the effort for him (and they look like they arent) it doesnt matter
Not only did he play poorly on Saturday, I also didnt like his attitude to take an age to walk off when asked to be subbed, whilst others at least jogged off so we could try and still win the game. Knock that tantrum shit right on the head, son. You ain't that good.

I'm thinking he's currently channelling his inner Gloria Estefan. He's just survived a horrific career threatening tour bus crash in England that meant he had to spend months in rehab dealing with serious breakages learning how to walk before he can run again. The process was long but he did eventually make a full recovery before re-launching his worldwide tour again.

Lopetegui's Spanish-language Latin style Football then went on for us to qualify for Europe comfortably in the end whilst going far in the FA Cup as well. Much to the surprise of his worldwide West Ham fanbase, who had all but written him off as a hopeless case that had contemplated switching off the life support machine at one stage.

He then went on to win personal award after award for his brave, attacking Football that won many admirers from the world of football, having now re-established West Ham on the European map, competing in Cups and doing it in real style.

So don't turn off his life-support just yet, you impatient bastards but I do get the painful, frustrating process in the mean time as it doesn’t look pretty right now...

I didn't see our full backs tucked in at all on sat. The main thing that was doing my head in was the fact they have obvously been told to play out from the back yet every time Fab got it our back 4 were so slow and lazy.  Fab had the ball and they are literally walking behind him rather than showing any sort of energy or tempo to get the ball and start the attack.

On the ball we are dreadful, off the ball we are dreadful. Just lucky Everton were terrible going forward on sat.

This season is done already, and until the manager goes there's not really any excitement in going over there at the moment. Its become an chore.

AWB is a classic old school defensive full back
Who is being positioned as some sort of tucked in midfielder or inside forward
While is opponent is given the freedom of the left side
Its bonkers

Yea, probably why I asked the question, there's something about him, he doesn't seem 'solid' to me. Blame the manager I suppose.

Last point on this, too: that STUPID zonal full-back thing meant that, yesterday, because the full-backs were often tucked inside close to Kilman and Todibo, even Antonio kept being asked to drop deep and pick up the opposition wide players. Which meant that, on several occasions, we had absolutely no forward outlet whatsoever.

It's insanity on so many levels. You can tell this clueless dick was a goalkeeper.

Good full back but being asked to abandon that position so that their left sided player (like Garnacho for Man U) was given acres of space to receive the ball & run at us. An easy out ball for the opposition
Its utterly mental
No wonder AWB stood and stared when he was taken off
Doing what he is being asked to do but it’s not his or anyone else’s game
AWB looked furious when he got taken off, didn't he?! No wonder, either: outside of Bowen, he's our most consistent player - and one of our best - yet Dopetegui's tactics often leave him doing something he must hate. AWB is one of best 1v1 defenders in the league - and wants to get out and mark opposition wingers. The way we play him is like asking a boxer to fight with one arm behind his back.

This wasn't so much of a problem yesterday. Certainly not as bad as when Grealish had so much acreage around him that he could have opened a farm. But Ndiaye had too much space again yesterday. He kept us pinned back, because he's good at finding space and always had it due to Lopetegui's tactical "masterclass".

Play your full-backs vertically - don't keep asking them to play inside the RB/LB slot. It's all so that he can have even more players in his low block. He's worse than fucking Moyes for it.

Let your full-backs play vertically (essentially, up and down the pitch). What's so fucking difficult to understand about that (that's a message to Dopeytegui, btw)?! For starters, it means they can pick up and man mark (on occasion) opponent's wide players and cut off the constant 'free' man when teams attack us.

Manuel wrote: 10 Nov 2024, 00:46 To summarise, the season is over. We won't go down, we will stick with this cսnt of a manager, nick the odd win and finish 15th. That's what we have to look forward to.

AWB is a strange one, is he actually any good? Anyone know? Todibo looks ropey to me too.

Yes, honestly Manuel, AWB is a top-class talent. One of the best defensive right-backs in the game, as he has repeatedly shown with his ability to read play and react to problems covering our slow centre halves.

The attacking side of his game is his weakest element. But despite the modern game's predilection for winger-style full-backs, I'm still of the view that defensive fundamentals remain more important in that position. If you can't tackle, your team won't be able to get forward much anyway.

What AWB needs - like the rest of this team - is an end to Lopetegui (I could just leave it there!)'s shitbonkers fixation with that STUPID zonal thing he does with the full-backs, where he asks them to tuck in close to out centre halves when not in possession. It's stupid because it simply gifts possession to our opponents even deep into our own half (hence, 51% possession for Everton yesterday!) and also because it means our decent full-backs (I think Emerson is a better player than many think) can't play vertically because they're often moving out wide (from a central position) before moving forward. Which makes our few periods of transition more difficult.

It's one of Lope's many STUPID tactics that will leave us struggling all of the time. He needs to ditch it - fast. But he probably won't.

You can tell a mood of a team by their body language
Looked disengaged & lethargic and as though they don’t believe what they are being asked to do
Or even know what that is

Predicted a dour 1-1 which was obviously overly optimistic
A dismal 0-0 more like it

Watched a replay of MOTD this morning
As someone mentioned they summed up by saying Everton are on the right track after giving us a deserved kicking
Bit strange as Everton are below us and were frankly dogshit
As poor as we were Pickford saved them though to be honest neither team deserved 3 pts
