Saturday football

NOTTINGHAM FOREST vs MANCHESTER CITY (1230)
An intriguing one to start the weekend. Forest’s ascendency has taken a bit of a hit in recent weeks with three defeats in their last five outings. But they’re still in third spot and one place above today’s visitors. Mind you, City have lost two of their last four. So where does that leave this game? Anyone’s guess, but you have to fancy pedigree over whippersnapper. Away win.

BRIGHTON & HOVE ALBION vs FULHAM (1500)
Another close game on the cards. Many will have this one down as battle of equals, but territorial advantage may tip the balance. Home win.

CRYSTAL PALACE vs IPSWICH TOWN (1500)
Every game is vital now for the Tractor Boys. With Palace having pulled themselves out of immediate danger, you’d have to think they have the advantage. Home win.

LIVERPOOL vs SOUTHAMPTON (1500)
Very top against very bottom. Poor old Saints. Could get nasty. Home win.

BRENTFORD vs ASTON VILLA (1730)
Yet again, it’s hard to choose between these two. This is the meat, or the salad, in a Villa vs Club Brugge sandwich and the visitors will have their focus firmly on Wednesday’s home tie that could see them into the Champions League quarter-final. Home win.

WOLVERHAMPTON WANDERERS vs EVERTON (2000)
Much has been made of late of Everton’s rebirth under David Moyes. There’s little to suggest that this will be still-born. But a tricky fixture nonetheless, for both sides. Draw.

SUNDAY

CHELSEA vs LEICESTER CITY (1400)

The Foxes do look doomed. Chelsea could, and probably will, end the day in third spot. Home win.

TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR vs BOURNEMOUTH (1400)
The hosts sit 10 points below the visitors, although both have lost as many games as they’ve won in their last six. Will home advantage favour Spurs this afternoon? It might. Draw.

MANCHESTER UNITED vs ARSENAL (1630)
A classic top-flight fixture, that definitely favours the visitors. Away win.

MONDAY

WEST HAM UNITED vs NEWCASTLE UNITED (2000)
The Barcodes will look to get a measure of revenge after losing to the mighty Irons at St James Park earlier in the season. But Newcastle’s form isn’t encouraging, with  four defeats in their last six games. That’s almost as bad as our form, although ours may be somewhat boosted by two consecutive wins going into this. Jarrod Bowen’s pace and Mohammed Kudus’ creativity will, you hope, test Newcastle’s defence. Lucas Paquetá’s midfield mastery and Alphonse Areola’s shot-stopping should also boost our chances. For the visitors, Alexander Isak’s clinical finishing and Bruno Guimarães’ midfield dominance will be pivotal. This should be the kind of game that justifies its inclusion as the Monday night live game, but it will be a tough encounter. Draw.

I'd be surprised if they win the league under Arteta.

Rice has stepped up recently and showed his mettle, fair play to him.

Fernandes is a top player.

I’d celebrate if one of our players made a tackle.

The Arsenal keeper earned his paycheck today.

Gotta be One of the performances of the year.

He’s more interested in celebrating and shushing the crowd than he is getting the ball back to the centre circle.

That, and him celebrating making a tackle just about sums the bloke up.

Real shame that.!
The worst of it is the manager allegedly taking home something like £15m a year, hahaha

what, Potter's blueprint when he had three of our defenders in Leicester's half for most of the first hour of the match?

Sir Alf" wrote: 09 Mar 2025, 17:35 Looks like Amourim has used Potter’s tactical blueprint to mug Arsenal. Arteta like Pep this season is struggling to deal with the Moyes favoured “lowest of the low block” set up of 10 behind the ball.  One chance for United scored, 70% possession for Arsenal, totally dominating midfield but unable to pass thru the 2 walls of Manc players and only creating a cpuple of half chances. Arsenal need a plan b but Arteta is a “tiki taka” disciple so cannot see him changing much.  I suppose Mourino is to allow them to go more direct but he’s a midfielder so not that good at holding it up and getting his head on things.

Lots of teams like Forest, Bournemouth etc using rapid counters very effectively. Liverpool even score a lot from rapid transitions but can also dominate possession.

Thats the only slight nagging doubt with Potter longer term, that his Brighton teams liked to control possession but like Arsenal struggle to create much and score. That said, he has shown tactical flexibility with us so far ( forced by squad available ) so not afraid to mix things up.  Really hope next season that we have a big man up top. Fullkrug and Fergusom might be the answer but  Im not entirely convinced tbh

Interesting read, good to see you managed to slag off Potter even though we aren’t playing till tomorrow.

Great work.

'It's only the Caribau'. Oh, only the league cup that we've NEVER won?

I (and most of us) would be putting bunting in the windows if we were in Newcastle's position right now. Don't underestimate that cups importance and we need to kick the fuck out of them on Monday night.

COME ON YOU IRONS!

Spurs league season, like ours, is largely irrelevant other than trying to plan for next season and a rebuild etc.  Complication and probably delay they have is who will be manager.  Everything depends on the Europa. If they go out, Stavros is toast

Sky & TNT are going to struggle to pretend most games between now & the end of the season have any interest to them.
Hopefully the FA Cup lifts the boredom level by seeing a couple of teams like Bournemouth & Brighton in the final … though tv will hate that
TNT have the Champions League to focus on & will be praying Liverpool keep going

The interest for West Ham is that Potter has 11 games to assess the squad he has including some of the youngsters
We SHOULD be ready in June to make changes & several should be told long before that to find alternative employers

Yesterday’s games were really dull. With 10 games left this could be the most boring end to the season ever.

league is already done
bottom 3 will go down
CL places maybe, but you know it’ll end up Arsenal, Man City and Chelsea.
