"The 59-year-old man was arrested “following enquiries undertaken by my team" Nicholson says.He is not identified, but the statement says he has been arrested on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter in connection with the collision. The arrest comes after the conclusion of search operations by HM Coastguard for the missing crew member of the Solong, it adds."
It doesn't say it in black and white but I guess the missing crew member was the culprit, who's been hiding in a barrel or something
He's been arrested for manslaughter. So how can he be the missing crew member?
because "came after the conclusion of the search" could have meant he was missing, found, then arrested, . Not the case though, sounds like they just called it off
Yeah that's what I thought they were implying, sounds like he's dead though.

It's most probably human error.
The Solong was apparently on it's normal regular route, and the Immaculate was anchored in its way. There was fog in the area, so it's fairly possibly the watchman on the Solong had his feet up and was playing angry birds on his phone and not paying attention.

shipping is my career. The whole concept is bonkers. Comparing German ship ownership to dodgy ship ownership such as Russian shadow fleet business, also bonkers.
Fair enough, I cede to your informed opinion, like I said you're almost certainly right, my original point is it shouldn't be assumed it was 100% an accident, especially when I saw this said yesterday by an Immaculate crew member " the previous day we had anchored at that spot and relayed our coordinates - everyone should have known where we were"

The SOLONG is a German owned/controlled ship. The tanker it crashed into is the STENA IMMACULATE owned by Stena Bulk based in Sweden. Really is no conspiracy to be had here.
Immaculate being Swedish is irrelevant, the fact it's commissioned to US military and laden with jet fuel is what would make it a tempting soft target for an opportunist. Solong being registered to Germany is also largely irrelevant what with the shadiness of how naval ownership works, besides the crew would be multinational as is common.
In any case yes it was almost certainly an accident, big fuckup though, very rare for ships to collide in those circumstances

What would be the motive to deliberately steer into a ship designed to supply fuel to the US military during armed conflicts or national emergencies?

Just looked it up yeah was commissioned to the Us military, wouldn't surprise me if it was deliberate then, it contained jet fuel and not oil at least.

‘US naval history professor Sal Mercogliano, who runs a YouTube channel titled What’s Going On With Shipping, believes that the container ship Solong was travelling on autopilot before colliding with the tanker Stena Immaculate. In a video published to his channel the maritime expert said: “I have a feeling here that Solong is going to be put on autopilot for this run down the coast. “And I get a distinct impression here that no one is really paying attention on board.“She is just coming full bore down at about 16 knots, heading right for the anchorage where Stena Immaculate is.“There’s only two things that cause accidents on board ships. “It’s either mechanical error or human error, and in this case, this ship seems to be following its normal track line. “It always does, which makes me think that the mate on watch is not paying attention to the traffic that’s ahead. Got distracted. Who knows what happened here?”Prof Mercogliano, a qualified merchant mariner, said that data from ship-tracking websites suggested to him that Solong had struck the port side of the Stena Immaculate and had pushed the tanker for some distance.’
Autopilot on a boat??!!
